yeah, they definitely forgot bonham. and i guess they go by popularity, and not skill. i wouldn't necessarily but Notorious BIG at number 2, and definitely not Cash at number. Don't get me wrong, I love Johnny Cash, but he was old, and he's certainly lived a full life and in a much better place. I would think Cobain would be at number one, for the influence he had, and the tragedy around his death. I would htink Cobain and Lennon would score a hell of a lot higher. And Hendrix as well. These guys died in their primes, Hendrix...holy cow, imagine if he was alive today. If he had had all that time to slow down on the drug use and become a tasteful accomplished musician. imagine what he'd be putting out today.

and c'mon...Bonham?! come on! only one of hte most kickass drummers ever dies and leaves a huge whole not only in Zeppelin but the entire rock scene? definitely worth mention. lisa left-eye lopez, while being sa great human being, did not cause more of a rift than John Bonham in the music industry. it's always hard to say something like that without being a jerk, but you have to look at influence, and realize that it's not about how great a person it was. form what it sounds like, lisa left-eye lopez was a great person, but she didn't have anywhere near the musical influence as bonham.

i'm done.

Miss Jeff Buckley to pieces. Yeah, how come John Bonham didn't make this list?  WTF? :-/

I think about how much Kurt Cobain is missed quite frequently and how much we are missing out on.  He was only scrapeing the surface of what he could have produced ultimatly, and that really gets me upset.  He'll always be the Jesus of Rock n' Roll to me.

A little off topic but I read for the first time this week that J. Mascis nearly took over Nirvana's drum stool pre-Grohl? Old news for most I guess...

I think Nowell should be there especially considering some of the others.  Also, I am sure  I am gonna make some enemies for this but, here goes.  (Sorry Sweat, you introduced me to that bad ass live PJ album and for that I will be forever grateful)
I think Kurt Cobain was finished as far as being an influential musician.    I am not questioning his part in the the musical revolution he helped start because there is no doubt he was a major, major player.  I just think his most meaningful stuff was behind him.  Of course, I could be very, very wrong.  But, we'll never know.

I think Kurt pretty much did his damage as far as making that kind of impact in mainstream music but, there is just no question that his best work was ahead of him.  Nirvana would have put out some more music with no promotion no videos etc. etc. much like Pearl Jam did and did thier best to gain some kind of nomality in thier carrear.  I'm sure they would have switched record labels at some point.  When you look at the difference between Nevermind and In Utero there is no question that Kurt took a huge leap forward in his guitar playing and song structures and even lyrics.  He got rid of the crappy production on Nevermind and got Steve Albini to produce it.  That's what makes me even more sad, I think Kurt thought he was trapped and couldn't ever get out of being constantly harrased by mainstream media.  I really believe that if Kurt had stuck it out he'd be pretty happy today, he would surely have gotten a divorced from that soul sucking bitch Courtney Love, he'd have a beautiful daugter and he could just refuse to ever play anything off of Nevermind live in concert and that would have been just fine with many of us.

For a guy who was simply trying to, and I quote, "Rip off the pixies the best I could", he did alright for himself :)

...Minus Courtney Love.

I would love to hear what type of music John Lennon would be making today if he were around.  I have a feeling it would still be great, and with the way things are around the world he would have  a lot to write about.

I miss Johnny Cash and Marvin Gaye too, actually I miss quite a bit of names on that list.
If you don't know for yourself, how could you ever know for me....
