An obvious thread, I know but I don't think we've ever had one (not in my time anyway)
I'm interested to see what other movies people like (+ I'm a sucka for lists!)

Here are some of mine in no order, except for the first few maybe:

Amelie
Dances With Wolves
Cinema Paradiso
Goodfellas
Heat
Straight Story
Dazed & Confused
Thin Red Line
Donnie Darko
The Big Lebowski
Wonderland (UK movie from '99, not the Val Kilmer/John Holmes one from '03)
The Station Agent (anyone else seen this?)
Finding Nemo
Donnie Darko
Rocky
The Karate Kid
Requiem For A Dream
Boyz In Da Hood
Shawshank Redemption
Good Will Hunting

So what's that? 20? Sorry, I couldn't do a Top10...
Make your lists as long as short as you like  :)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

-Mars Attacks!
-Eternal Sunshine
-Anything and everything by M. Night Shyamalan, especially Lady In The Water (that's the closest I've ever coming to shedding actual tears in a movie. i'm not trying to act manly or anything, movies have been choking me up like crazy this summer. but this one got me closest to having actual tears running down my face. certainly blearied up my vision)
-Royal Tenenbaums
-The Thing
-any ridiculous horror movie, really...i thought the remake of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre was one of the most suspenseful movies I've ever watched, though everyone else hated it. suckas.
-i could stand to watch Fight Club a couple more times, but I think that one has a very special place in the heart of every somehwat disillusioned teenaged youth, and then you grow out of it.
-Cast Away
-alternatively, anything starring Tom Hanks, except for the DaVinci Code, which was a pile of crap, and I say that without even taking my faith into account. There was absolutely no chemistry in the cast of that movie whatsoever. Which sucked. It's the only movie I've ever disliked Hanks in.
-anything brilliant...i'm sure I'll think of more later

edit:
forgot the Big Lebowski. i saw that about eight times in my friends' Jared and Zach's dorm room this semester. I can quote that sucker inside and out now.
The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

It was critically acclaimed in the UK when it came out.
I used to work in a very cool video store that sparked my interest in foreign/cult/art movies etc.

Forgot all about that one. Used to have that on video...might have to buy it again on DVD.

EDIT: Hmm $27? Might be a silly question, what is the Criterion Collection? Why are DVDs in this collection usually so expensive?

Any film deemed Criterion Collection worthy will be of the best film to DVD transfer and the best available audio - plus they use original film negatives and present the films in their closest original form - Criterion Collections also remaster and/or repair damaged film stock. Also, Criterion discs are loaded with the most comprehensive features which are often endorsed by the producers of the films and the directors. Basically, Criterion means the best.

Thanks Jaimoe, I guess sometimes it's worth paying that little bit more if you're guaranteed a certain level of quality...
