sniffing my way through Season 4 of THE WIRE (which is the best show I've ever seen on tv--except for Seinfeld)

and getting hooked on Downton Abbey! (think there's a new Grantland article on that)

Downton is a great series. I'm looking forward to Sherlock's season II when it airs in the spring on PBS' Masterpiece.

Downton Abbey is not a great series. It's soap opera hidden within a period drama / costumes. Yanks lap that shit up!

Have you seen it past a few minutes? It's a slow-burn show for sure with really interesting and developed characters, but I realize it's not everyone's cup of Earl Grey tea. By comparison, popular hip shows such as Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels and Sons of Anarchy are pulp page-turners at best. Downton is like a great old novel.
Looking SO forward to the return of Downton.  I have missed the perfectly-timed, caustic lines delivered by Maggie Smith.  January 6th! Lather up!  :bath: :bath: :bath:

Downton is like they took crack mixed with heroine mixed with Meth and turned it into a television show with cool British accents and pretty clothes. Its incredibly addictive. Can't wait for season 3!

In the last couple months I've watched:
Seasons 1-3 of Battlestar Galactica
Season 6 of Dexter
Season 4 of True Blood

I'm watching the whole series of BG for the first time, wanted to take a break from it to catch up on Dexter and True Blood. It was weird seeing Edward James Olmos in his role in Dexter after watching all that BG, had no idea he was even gonna be on Dexter. The Dexter and True Blood seasons were solid, Dexter got back to having some good twists. Battlestar Galactica has been a good watch so far, I like how it's been not in chronological order from time to time. Just started season 4 last night. Also the new season of Louie has been pretty hit so far, with a couple misses.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Not discussing how, but I just finished Sherlock II. Fucking awesome.
Finished watching both Sherlock seasons last week.  Yeah Mike, Season 2 was excellent.  Of course it would be better if Lucy Liu played Watson

Anyone watch "Moonshiners" on Discovery Channel?

i know it is a "quasi" reality show, but still entertaining.. and for my 1,001st post on the MMJ forum (only took me 9 years).. i want to dedicate it to my favorite moonshiner, Jim Tom:

Moonshiners - Jim Tom's Song

this guy cracks me up..

Happy 1001, Tyler!

Watched The Following premiere last Monday on Fox... It had my attention within the first 20 minutes... This show has some great potential, just don't know how long it can run.
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

Yeah, I was intrigued and I think it has potential, but they might have already fucked it up in the believability dept.  How could this guy have such a large, well organized following carrying out a devious plan that took years to set up? And they don't explain how he broke out of prison and killed 5 guards in the process.  I kept thinking of Silence of The Lambs and how they showed exactly how he executed his brilliant escape.  I don't think you can fairly compare the acting of Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster to Kevin Bacon and whoever plays the killer in this TV show, but I am doing it anyway.  Unless they go back and develop the characters of the followers and how they came to be so brainwashed, I think the show will fall short.

I agree, they kind of touched on how he got his "followers", but I think they will have to explain how he got into their minds.  It will be interesting to see how the story unfolds... I'm hoping in a great way, not in some CSI kind of way, but in a great storytelling way.

I don't have time for much TV. Usually a couple of series at a time. Right now, its Justified and Archer. The Daily Show, Colbert, and Real Time will Bill Mahr too. The Walking Dead starts up soon and the last 8 episodes of Breaking Bad are on the horizon.

I picked up the entire 4-season Bluray set of Deadwood, a project for this summer.

I was intrigued by The Following, but a write up in Rolling Stone kinda matches what some here have said...

What I am looking forward to is The Americans. I was sad that Rubicon lacked momentum and love a good spy thriller done well (Three Days of the Condor, No Way Out,  Day of the Jackal). I'm hoping this one will be worth planning around.

I'm still watching The Following but man it's kitschy.  But I'll do anything for Kevin Bacon.

I was cynical at first about Elementary with Lucy Liu as Watson but I am hooked!  It's the best Sherlock series or movie I've seen.  Sure it steals from the likes of Law and Order or CSI/NCIS but Jonny Lee Miller is hilarious and Lucy Liu is more than tolerable as Watson.

I am so excited that Community is coming back.  It is fun show, dark at time but hilarious overall.  Can not wait to see this weeks episode.
Can you keep it simple? Can you let the snare crack? Can you let it move without holding back?

Have you had a chance to catch any of this series?  I've been watching it and I think it's quite entertaining.  After seeing all of the technology available to the CIA/Black Ops/etc, it is quite fun to see the rudimentary spy equipment being used in the early 80's.  Although, at that time it was cutting edge technology...

My wife and I are watching (and loving) The Americans, with the first two down and one on the DVR. The male lead, Matthew Rhys, is distracting. He looks like Lindsey Buckingham with mascara and sounds like Gary Sinise. Keri Russell puts the "cold" in "cold war". We're really enjoying the series so far, making up for the lame return of Walking Dead and the wait for the final chapter of Breaking Bad.

We started watching "The Following" and didn't make it past the second episode.  As other have said, it just went way beyond any bounds of being believable.  After they pulled the "person you think is a good guy is a bad guy" thing for about the 5th time, we jumped ship.

Any other fans of "American Horror Story"?  By far one of the most awesome and batshit crazy things I've ever seen on TV.  Both seasons were great, and I can't wait for the third one.

Also, we were late to the Breaking Bad party, but are not almost caught up in the 5th season.  What an incredible show.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

That show looks great, I need to get into it...the onion's avclub stated that it was very low in the ratings the second and third week, let's hope FX doesn't have another Terrier's on their hands...it's sad that American tv values quantity$ over quality

Also this week one of the funniest shows on tv Happy Endings (There was a MMJ joke/reference in a season 2 ep) was moved to the Friday at 8 death slot to make room for Celebrity wife swap...so disappointing. How dim-witted can this country get?
Oh, I will dine on honey dew And drink the Milk of Paradiseeeee

We absolutely love AHS Mr. Whippy. It's completely fucked in such an entertaining way. I'm a big fan of how season 2 is in no way related to the first.

I was gifted the complete series of Six Feet Under, I watched the entire series when it first aired but have been wanted to revisit. It's still as good as I remembered it. Definitely worth checking out if a smart, funny, dark, well produced adult drama sounds interesting.

Any of you guys watch House of Cards on Netflix? I just have a couple episodes left to watch, and have really liked it.

Anyone else plan to watch the premiere of Bates Motel on A&E tonight? It looks like it will be good and I'll watch anything with Vera Farmiga in it.

My wife and I caught the first episode and liked it, but we're having difficulty finding time to watch more.  If we have to choose, The Americans is our first choice of new series.  I missed one episode, the DVR didn't record for some reason, so we paid $3 to watch it via Vudu.  Since House of Cards is on Netflix, we might save it for the summertime lull.  How has it held up past the premier?

I might catch Bates Motel later this week via non-cable means  It looks interesting and well shot.

I just started Vikings (on History Channel) via Hulu.  I'm liking it!
