Wow a ridgeback!? I wouldn't feel too bad, only because they are supposed to be perfect with kids and your dog probably felt more at home than you ever realized with having kids around.

He was a noble beast.  What a great personality.  I would not hesitate to get another one.  Although I may get a female next time, as Marley got to 130+ pounds.   He was about as laid back as a dog gets.  The perfect match for me.   Now I'm getting misty again.....

At the dog park by my place they have two parks - small dogs and all dogs. Being that we're in a ritzy area, there are a lot of little fashion accessories who simply have to be in the big park for some reason so the dumb coonts can yell at people after their little pocket pooches start fights.

Anyway, there were a bunch of big dogs being harassed by small dogs and it was a large ruckus and the Ridgeback just sat there, on top of a pile of rocks, calmly watching the chaos unfold.

Since then I've wanted one.

Sounds about right!   ;D  If you get one you will not be disappointed!  He looked mean in the right situation and had a ferocious bark when someone came to the door but he wouldn't hurt a flee and was as lovable as can be.   He was always a little bit leery of strange men but he loved the ladies.   :)

Right now, things are just fucking.....nuts at work. I'm ready to scream. I've worn a hole in my desk from banging my head. Fuck people, I can only do so much so fast. Fucking SAP. I hate you you crappy ass German software package.

Thanks man, I appreciate it. Things are better. I guess sometimes you just got to keep holding on even when its hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you tho...sometimes it just takes some kind words to make a difference.

There are things that hurt worse than losing a dog, but not too many.

We took in a dog from the SPCA that was like a day overdue to be put down, and he got into our hearts so quick.  We only had him for a little over a year before he died in my arms.  I cried like a baby.

Had a neighbor with a Rhodesian -- they're cool dogs.

I recommend reading "The Art of Driving In the Rain".  I know, I know, it's a little sappy .... but if you're a dog person you will LOVE it. You won't cry as much as you might predict at the end, And it might help put things away.  Maybe.   :-/

Thanks so much everyone for the kind words and encouragement. Sometimes life is just hard and there's nothing you can do about it. You just have to weather the shiot storm and come out stronger on the other end.
Everyday has been better and I'm feeling great.  ;)

I must confess, I felt compeled to post my story while I was at work that day and didn't have any pictures of him on my work computer so I found one on the interweb that looks EXACTY like him.  Kind of weak, I know, but I'll follow it up with a real picture soon.

Someone stole my identity, made a withdrawal out of my bank account and opened two new credit cards - and charged on them.

Had to put a freeze on my bank accounts (and will have to close them) and a freeze on my credit.  Closed out the fraudulent accounts.  Next step - going to the department of motor vehicles because  my driver's license number was compromised as well.  And in CA the DMVs are closed on Friday due to budget cuts.  Filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission.  Waiting for a return call from the police - will be waiting a while thanks again to budget cuts.

The real pisser - my personal identification was compromised because of disclosure requirements for my employment.
