Sixteen-hit-the-floor? Love the stuff! Best of luck Mike
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

If I get this job, it would be a major joy. That slaughtering might be joyful also. Not sure what that says about me. I'd pan roast that sumbitch after slaughter cuz chicken is tasty.

Praying the whole process ends well...invested months and months into it now

NYC show is really my one reprieve (minus TG and Xmas)...blah...

Fairly petty compared to some of the other things on here but needed to vent (sort of)

indeed. I'll doing slaughtering a cow next month then a hog in January. Me loves my organic meat that I butcher myself so I know what's in it.

Wow, slaughtering a cow is a whole different level. Some day I will do that! I'm gonna watch a pig slaughter in a few weeks, should be interesting.

The gutting and skinning is a bit nausiating so fair warning. The butchering part is pretty tame though and is usually a good time. I'm lucky in that my wife's family are all hunters so her uncle built a "garage" specifc for butcher beef, beef, and pork. It's a good set up. About 10 guys can butcher hogs pretty damn quick.

Yeah.  I think I'll pass on the whole watching animals get butchered thing.  I have a friends that raise organic grass fed cows and I just buy the meat off of them.  I see no need to watch how they came about getting the meat to me...   :P    :)

mjk73

It's a good thing having friends who raise organic grass feed cattle. Those are friends you keep for life.

ALady

I think if I had to kill my own meat, I'd probably be a pescatarian.  Had to pluck too many chickens growing up   :P  But the butchering sounds interesting, there are a couple places here that teach you how to do it in the old-fashioned, no-waste manner.  I can get behind that.

Well done! For the past 8 years I've been pushing near 80% regarding consuming produce and meat that's organic/naturally-raised and/or local farm. I feel for those that live in areas with produce choices dominated by evil factory and mega-farms. I'll keep doing my best to hit 100%.

My current complaint is that the "current joys" topic is 87 pages ahead of the "current complaints" topic...not that I'm a negative person or anything  ;D

I find that I'm extremelly picky about my pork due to my butchering. I cannot buy just regular pork at the grocery any longer. I also refuse to buy nitrate laden bacon. I've had uncured bacon for over 10 years. It's sooooooo much better.

ALady

Oh yeah, uncured is the way to go.

Hit a rough patch with the dog over the last few weeks.  We have a pretty big yard at my place, but it's unfenced.  When she would wake us up around 6:30 or so...just before we wanted to get up...we would just open up the front door and let her run around for 20-30 minutes, go to the bathroom, etc.  Last Friday she got hit by a car.  Luckily she just needed some stitches.  Cost me $225 though, and the medication or the wound is affecting her bladder control, apparently, as she's gone 3 times in the house since then.  This came after she busted out my basement windows twice in the last week.

Somehow I still love her  :D  :-*

Need to get some pics up in the pet thread...
We could.

Funny how dogs can tug at your heart like that eh?  they just stare at you with that goofy puppy look and their tails all a wagging.  You just can't stay mad at them!!!

Glad to know your puppy's doing ok though with the exception of the bladder issues.

I don't get "outraged" very often.....  But when I move away from home, and a new HOUSING PLAN, to be built ON THE PROPERTY ACROSS THE VALLEY FROM MY CHILDHOOD HOME gets put into motion...... good god, what do we need, an Occupy Bedner's Farm?!?!

Here's the article.....

I know it might seem like kinda lame news to ya'll, but I just needed a little space to vent, sorry  :-\

I've been looking at that beautiful hill since I was 1 year old (I might not have remembered it for a couple years, but christ.....)  It was the first symbol of freedom that I indulged.  I used to pack a daypack with my journal and food and WALKMAN and climb down the big steep wooded hill behind our house and make a big deal about crossing the creek down in the valley.  I used to feel like once I got over that creek I was on new turf and the world was my oyster!  Then began the ascent up Bedner's Hill... where I'd have to cross a little 2-lane road that connected my little town with all the mcmansions, and for some reason there were always cops on that road... and that was fine, except I'd have to walk along the road and find the broken part of the wood fence that was just the right size for me to toss my pack over the fence and roll through... but I had to be so fast because it was private property and the cops would heckle me if they saw it.  And I'd have to kind of make a running dash at that point, cause I was pretty obvious til I got up a bit higher.... then at the top I'd sit and just haaaaang out on top of the world.......  Then I proceeded to occasionally visit the hill in my teenage years of course..... always a fond memory....

Sorry for the huge novel about it, but this is a tough thing for me to not feel moved about..... I realize this is just constantly happening everywhere, but they're hittin' a real nerve right now.  Especially being so far away, now I'm having all these thoughts of trying to do  something.....

Meh :-\
