Locked up at 1-1...Great game, Pens really tightened up the D and started firing more from the point. I wouldnt say Crosby single handedly won the game, but he scored the first goal, knocked a puck out of the crease only a few inches away from the goalline that may have saved the game, then skates circles around Spezza and passes it out to Letang for the GWG.

Caught the tail end of the SJ-COL game last night as well. What a comeback, but if they went down 0-2 to COL, wow.

Buffalo pretty much owning Boston after 1....2-0 BUF

Pretty strange playoffs so far. Haven't watched that many games. Kinda sad.
Anyone watch any of the frozen four? I'm for the WCHA, so I'm a little disappointed in Wisconsin's loss.

I thought going into round one that the matchups were pretty competitive. I don't think my Bruins have enough scoring to go past the Sabres, but Nashville could easily upset Chicago. Those Avs are loaded with your Canadians so they could also unseat the lazy underachiving Sharks. DO NOT underestimate Philly and Montreal. The Habs have the best home ice advange in the league; go to a game in MTL if you want proof. The Bruins get the #2 pick in this upcoming entry draft. Look out next year NHL east.

I was supposed to be at a party at a bar an hour ago but I can't peel myself away from this Habs/Caps game.  Go Caps!

My brother goes to RIT so I went to the regionals in Albany and watched them beat Denver and UNH. The UNH game was awesome and I thought they would put on a decent show in the FF. I was shocked they got destroyed so badly. I didn't expect them to beat the badgers, but I also didn't expect them to give up 8 goals. And I don't like BC so, yeah, didn't end the way I wanted.

What the hell? You could've name dropped your brother before. I posted about RIT .  I went to the MN State vs RIT game, and RIT got smoked both games. There were a couple players on RIT that without skates they had to be all of 5ft tall. I thought I'd never hear that name again, and then they're in the frozen four. Nice to see!

Not a big fan of the state of Mass and hockey. They always seem to think they're better fans and players of hockey than Minnesota. Not even close in my eyes.

Dang I must've missed that post. Yeah RIT confused me a lot this year. My old school, Clarkson, had one of their worst seasons in program history but still managed to beat RIT at RIT 5-3 or something like that. But yeah for a school that doesn't hand out scholarships to make it that far was a good thing.

Regarding Mass and hockey.... A few seasons ago BC came all the way to Potsdam to play my Clarkson Golden Knights. We were good that year and had an epic home record so I was expecting a good game. Nathan Gerbe was the capn of BC and while being very skilled, he was pretty much the biggest bitch I've ever seen (figures that he signed with buffalo). He scored an absolutely beautiful wrist shot during that game but complained SO MUCH after every call against BC. There was no home-cooking, BC was sloppy and the penalties were even. I just couldn't get over how much a captain complained. How Jerry York didn't tell him to stop being such a bitch I will never know. Clarkson won that one 4-2. Pretty sure BC went on the win the title that year. Now whenever I think of BC all I can see is Nathan Gerbe. Not good.

More on Gerbe (yeah I hate that guy). Fast forward a year or so after that game and the Albany River Rats are playing buffalo's AHL team. Gerbe is being a bitch and pisses off one of the Rats' big boys. A brawl ensues and I have the lasting image of Gerbe turtling on the ice as he gets taught a lesson permanently burned into my mind. It was awesome. During the next Sabres game (which I watched because the NHL considers Albany to be a Sabres market >:(), Rick Jeaneret or however it's spelled starts talking about Gerbe. They show the highlight of him being a bitch and getting beat up and Rick proclaims that someday he will be a leader of the Sabres. RAAAAAAAGE

Love seeing the hate!
Are most people in Albany Rangers fans? Do you make it to many River Rats games?

Albany has a pretty good mix of fans. Lots of Rangers and Devils fans and a few Isles and Sabres fans. Definitely more Rangers fans than Sabres fans. It infuriates me when I check the channel guide, see the Rangers game listed, turn on MSG (a channel named after the Rangers very own arena) and see the gosh dern Sabres feed. I can see people in Utica, Binghamton, Cuse and anywhere west getting the Sabres feed....but in Albany?!!? It's ridiculous. I've never seen a Giants game taken off air in favor of the Bills....

Yeah I go to a few Rats games every season. I used to go a lot more. In general, the whole area payed more attention to them when they were affiliated with the Devils. Now with the Canes, they only draw like 3-4,000 per game if that (compared to 10K+ during the good ol days). It's sad. The arena looks so empty and the crowd is usually pretty quiet. It'll all be over soon though, as the team is moving to Charlotte at the end of the season. I don't blame them one bit for bolting.

On an aside, I'm officially coming out of retirement next Tuesday. I've been recruited to play summer league hockey in Toronto. I haven't played an organized game since the mid '90s. I used to be good, so I hope I don't suck too bad.

Roasted, Toasted, Burnt to a crisp. Malkin is playing great, Crosby is on fire. 11pts in 4 games. Anyone who says OV is the best player in the NHL is off their rocker.

Walt, I saw Backstrom's GWG from saturday. It was pretty sweet, but I raise you Sid's 2nd goal tonight.

Bring on the 2nd round  8-)

Really? I thought Sid's was a nice shot and all, but...hat trick and game winning goal in the playoffs, in overtime. Gotta go with my boy Nicky Backstrom.

Oh, we'll have a friendly picture and caption bet.

Yeah, I was just kind of giving you some shit, but I thought Crosby's shot was a more difficult one to put in net considering the angle. I only saw the GWG by NB that game.

And I was watching the Caps game last night, looked like they might lose, then they get 2 quick goals with like 7 minutes left to go up 4-2  >:(

I would like to thank the flyers for knocking out the devils. Now if Boston, Washington, and somehow Ottawa can finish the deal this will be perhaps my favorite first round in a long time.

I hate the Habs with an unholy passion, but I hate Alexander Semin even more. So, go Habs... and I'll never say this again.

.Walt

Damn it, I really wanted to see the Caps play the Pens. Of course Headdy the silly little penguin didn't. You wanted to see the Habs win, and clearly scared to play the Caps. You wanted to cheer with the oh so
trendy-metrosexuals in Montreal. Cool! Jaimoe, I thought you were a Bruins fan? You gotta hate the team more than the player. The player will retire, the team will not.

Since I can't cheer in French I'm pulling for the Pens.

The Hawks/Canucks is going to be a battle. I'm very afraid of Vancouver, but still think the Hawks will win or just flat out get killed.

The Habs are weaker than the Caps, so if the Bruins meet the Habs down the line, they'll have a better chance of winning, plus, there's nothing better for me than a Bruins-Habs series (and Habs fans would agree that the Bruins are their #2 rivals, historically speaking, #1 being the Leafs).

I'm sure there's lots of metro-sexuals in Montreal (there's a few left in Toronto too), but around half of that great town is English-speaking, so you don't have to cheer in French to root for the Habs. Also, around 1/4 of Canada cheers for Montreal - the Leafs are still the most popular team in the country, but the Maritime Provinces (Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia) traditional support Montreal (and New England teams such as the Red Sox and Pats).

I hate Vancouver, so I'm cheering for the Hawks (I like their players better too).

Oh, I'm back to hating the Habs. Semin can go float back to Russia and Ovie can start consuming lots of humble pie.

The hockey World Championships start up soon. So far, Stamkos and Steve Downey have confirmed playing for Canada (no St. Louis and Lecavalier). I wonder if Semin and Ovie will suit up for Russia?
