Buccos win their 8th series in a row (what....wait, what?) and leadoff Baseball Tonight..holy christ, is this real life.

The next couple weeks loom large with the schedule (next 3 series: STL, ATL, MIL) as to what their playoff chances and move-making strategery will be.

Im also not blown away, but I am surprised how much the media has already been talking about/supporting the Pirates. September I could see, but right after the All-Star break?! Buccos vs Braves on ESPN Monday. Im sure theyll show plenty of early 90's flashbacks  :'(

I think the reason they are getting so much love is because they are so EASY to like.  McCutcheon is the most exciting player in baseball (screw Reyes and his one year fluke).  Charlie Morton loses 12 games last year with an ERA near 8 and changes his arm angle and becomes a legitimate sub 4 era starter.  How does that happen?  It's ridiculous what they're doing but with the Nats falling further and further out of the race because of the Braves and Phillies I think they are an easy team to root for.  Hopefully the Nats aren't too far off from a season like this.
Sometimes when I get in my zone, you'd think I was stoned, but I never as they say, touched the stuf

Hey BBill!  I'll be Cap'n for a day.  I went there for a three game set with the Cubbies while staying with a friend who lived in the Burgh.  The stadium is gorgeous!  It's essentially at the meeting of the three rivers and next to Heinz Field.  We actually took a ferry that docked right at the ballpark after parking on the other side of the river.  The park is intimate.  We sat in three different sections, the left field bleachers (right next to the visitors bullpen), field box down the 3rd base line and upper tank behind the plate.  They were all great.

Even better, the 2nd day I think was Willie Stargell bobblehead day (I think...it could have been Dave Parker).  I traded mine to a fan collector for three beers.  Best trade of my life. ;D

I made it a point to take a photo of Antonio Alfonseca's 6 fingers as well while he was warming up in the Cubbies' bullpen.

Ever been to PNC?! C'mon now! I actually havent been to a game yet this year though, heading back to the Burgh tomorrow and might be going, interested to see how the crowd/energy has changed since previous years.

Anyway, I havent been to too many ballparks to compare it with (Fenway, old Yankee Stadium, Jacobs Field, Coney Island, Angels stadium circa '94 when it was getting a ton of renovations), but it is a great field. Obviously it doesnt have the nostalgia that some parks still do, but it really is laid out fantastically and there isnt a bad seat in the house (and since theyve sucked, you can get seats as cheap as $5 fairly often). I actually enjoy the upper deck during these days because you get a lot more breeze to help with the 90 degree heat. Plus the view thru the outfield is great even when the Bucs are winning 50 games a year.

Here's a pic I took last year from about 5 rows from the back. Not the best skyline based on where I was, but you get the idea. Also, the wallpaper on my cell has been the McGee's sign from the T5 run, but I think its time for a change  :( 8)

(actually not my pic because I was too lazy to get it on my computer and then flickr, but you get the idea)

what a horseshit call in the 19th inning. terrible call if it happened in the first 9 innings, but to decide a game in the 19th on such a horrendous call is ridiculous

That call was flat out disgraceful. It's time to build robot umps so this kind of nonsense doesn't happen. To add insult to injury, the Braves won due to this terrible call!

i'm a braves fan and it pains me that it happened to my team..

umpiring a baseball game is a tough job.. especially as head ump behind the plate.. and i definitely wouldnt want a bunch of robots out there running the show..

i think he just had a really bad lapse of judgment.. and i think the game should be scrubbed from the books if possible... that was such an obviously horrible call

Really wanted us to get Pence, and wouldnt have minded trading anyone in our farm system for him. Rich get richer. Ugh.

Yesterday's game was ugly. First game this year I quite watching after 3 innings. Hopefully we bounce back.

Hey Beer...you sound rather optimistic about the Cubbies! ;D  Haven't you learned anything? ;)  I dunno, I think it might be a two horse race between the Reds and the Brewers with the Brewers taking it so long as their starting pitching stays healthy.  That's a big "IF" but Greinke is poised to have a comeback year, particularly pitching in the NL and Marcum is beast when healthy.  I just think the Cubbies might still have too many holes.  But as you pointed out, if somehow Aramis can have a solid season, and by that I mean healthy, and Big Z is respectable, we could have an outside shot at a 90 win season.  I just don't see the Cards competing w/o Wainwright.  I'm more excited to see the next step in the development of Castro.  He sure seemed to figure it out at the end of last season for a REALLY young guy.  Man do I love him!  I do agree the Central is really deep this year.

Hey Ophidiophobia (that's the last time I type out your whole name ;D), what makes an Oklahoman root for the Devil (Red Sox)?  Jaimoe, you seem quite confident in your prediction that the O's finish last.  Would you like a friendly season wager on who finishes higher in the standings, the O's or Blue Jays?  It should be pretty interesting.  I also think the Rays have a good shot at winning the division.  I'm not sold on the Red Sox starting pitching either.  The Rays will be fine offensively if Desmond Jennings pans out as expected and the lost of Crawford won't be felt that badly.  That starting pitching staff is still the best in the East if Hellickson pitches like he did in brief stints last year.  It's the hit they took in the bullpen that could haunt them with the offenses they have to face in that division.
:o :o

Let's go Rayyysss!  The O's are doing their best guys.

Soxs' ERA for this month is almost 6 (5.98), and we only have 5 wins for the month. The roof is collapsing on the Sox, but my hope is that they can survive for the next couple of weeks and make noise in the playoffs.
