Here are some of the beer festivals I'm working this summer for BBC.  If you come out make sure to stop by the BBC table, say hi, and sample some of my handiwork!

May 22, Louisville Water Tower, 1:00, Buy Local First Fest
July 16, Indianapolis, I'll post more info as I get it.
July 1, Mellwood Arts Center, Louisville, KY, Louisville Independent Business Association Beer Festival

Crossing my fingers that they send me to Denver for GABF.  I keep you all updated when I know more.

That was the wrong date on the Indy beerfest.  Should be July 16th.

!!!!! hell yeah. Best couple of months for beer are ahead. the pumpkin ale thats pretty cheap and the packaging is just a plain black box with a jackolantern on it. one of my favorite beers to drink.

I go broke every August/September in an attempt to try every Oktoberfest/Marzen I can find. So far this year I've only got Sam Adams, Brooklyn, Hacker-Pschorr, and Spaten.

Am I the only one that isn't that overly impressed with New Belgium? Their Tripple is good and I rather like the new Dark Sour they are doing with Clutch but the rest of their stuff is kinda ho hum to me?

On a bright note, the 2011 Pere Jacques from Goose Island is wonderful. My local beer geek store got a nice GI display with a ton of the special Belgian ales in 12 oz bottle 4 packs and the 2011 PJ was on it.

I just really really love the Ranger IPA.  Rest is decent but the one beer is the mainly the reason for my excitement.

Fat Tire was my first taste of what a beer could be.  For a long time it was the holy grail of beers for me.  Now that I've had many, many others, I still like it fine but it's certainly not one of favorites.  I've only had FT, Mothership Wit and a summer seasonal a few years ago.  Still looking forward to trying their Ranger.

I have a soft spot for New Belgium because it was the first real beer that I consumed regularly. I lived in Fort Collins when the guy started in his basement, when the only place you could get it was at the outlet store at the Sam's, and there were five beers available, only in 22 oz. bottles. It was like being born again. One of my favorites was called Old Cherry, which they haven't made for years now. I miss that one, Fat Tire's sort of worn out for me, there are certainly plenty of more adventurous beers out there, but Ranger is some beautiful stuff. I still bring back at least 4 cases when I drive to Colorado, or any of the other 5 goddamn states that surround Oklahoma! Something I did not realize until I read it the other day is that NB is now the third largest American-owned brewery.

Anybody else remember this?

I'm with you mjk, new belgium, especially fat tire, is highly overrated in my opinion. It always tastes metallic and oxidized. Not a fan.

ALady

I don't mind it and will certainly drink it when there's nothing better on offer (had a few at the Phish show last week actually) but I don't understand why it's revered.

New Belgium makes some great sours though.  Actually that whole Lips of Faith series is pretty solid.

The collaborative one they did with Clutch is part of Lips of Faith. it's a Dark Sour.

I guess they are a good gateway craft brewer to start with, but there certainly are much more adventurous and better tasting breweries out there IMO. Goose Island for example. And yes, I'm on a big GI kick again. Gearing up for my trip to Chicago for a Binney's and a GI run while there.

kotchishm

Is Goose Island anywhere other than in Chicago?  I went to their website and they ahve so many that I would love to try.  I'm guessing a big fat NO in Virginia for them.

Their normal everyday beers are widely available in the Midwest. Their special ones are not. I'm lucky that St Louis is close enough so we get it all. outside of the midwest, they are not available that I know of.

walterfredo

I can get goose island beers out west. Not sure about Cali to be honest, but I usually pick some up when I'm reno for work. Good stuff.

aMillionDreams

Goose Island is widely available and will be available everywhere soon, I'd assume, since they were recently purchased by Budweiser.

I don't think New Belgium is overrated but Fat Tire may be.  Apparently they changed the recipe a few years back to make it more "accessible"  I love their seasonals though, especially the Mothership Wit.  And ranger is one of the best IPAs you can buy.
