In Canada we call them "hosers", but I think it means something different.

wellfleet

definitely means something different in canada... my poor sweetie, canada. what o what will become of you in the clutches of the evil conservatives?

my pick for sports movie is field of dreams because:
1. even though i have the dvd, i will sit and watch it on tv whenever it's on, commercials and all
2. i don't even like baseball, but this movie makes me feel baseball is transcendental
3. i cry every time. i cry when shoeless joe first appears. i cry when james earl jones gives his speech. i cry when he walks off into the corn. i cry when kevin costner introduces his "father" to his daughter. i cry when the camera pulls back and you see the twinkling of all the car headlights. basically, i spend an hour and a half either sobbing or choking back tears.
4. it's about imagination for us big kids. we need imagination.
everything sucks. really.

One of those movies that I've never got round to seeing but will have to now.
Not as good as Best Shot or Friday Night Lights but I have to admit I enjoyed The Rookie. Dennis Quaid was really good...
Wait - Rocky!!! How could I forget that? Rocky1 is an excellent movie!
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I rented the latest Star Wars flick and was barely entertained.  That Hayden Christensen has got to be the worst actor, sheesh.  And the dialog!  The only thing saving that movie was (of course) the special effects and Natalie Portman.

I think we'll be okay.  :)

Are you talking about your government or ours?  I don't think the conservatives will will on Monday - is that what you mean?  Our election?

Last night a few of us made a pact:  Green party.  And if there's a marijuana party rep in our riding, we're voting marijuana party.

(did you guys know we had a marijuana party?  We also had a rainbow party)

Totally agree!

padme is just lovely.  too bad i'm old enough to be her dad.  :'(

which brings me to this:  now that i have a daughter of my own, my own libido is now permanently altered as now all I can think is "holy shit, she's somebody's daughter...."

like lovely heather here:

all I can think is....her dad is out there somewhere!

EC... yes, i meant the canadian elections. don't vote for the green party. that will just take away votes from the liberals and harper will win... the liberals will get Nader-ed... doh... i hope you're right though, i hope the conservatives don't win....

john... no kidding. now that i'm a married lady and play step-momma to my husband's 12 year-old when she visits, i look at things in a brand new light. a few years ago when Thirteen came out, we went to see it (not with the daughter!) and when we came out of the theatre my husband said it was the most uncomfortable he'd ever been at the movies. the prospect of his little girl growing up like that terrified him. even me... i am so paranoid about setting a good example and being a good role model and watching my horrible potty mouth when she's around. it's hard not to say fuck.
everything sucks. really.

one of the things I hope for is that no matter what happens, she'll know I'm always there for her.  So even if something terrible or not what I'd like to happen to her does happen, (which is a possible reality), I'll always love her and support her.

Now, with that said, since she's so young, the world might be totally different by then.  Who knows.  I can only hope for the best.

well, obviously she's lucky because she already has the most important thing, someone who loves her and cares for her unconditionally. there's so many parents who just don't give a damn. my parents let me do what i wanted so long as they knew what, when, where, with whom, what time i'd be home... i remember wishing they'd get off my case and now i tell my step-daughter that the best thing i ever did was (most of the time) listen to my parents. it's CRAZY how much wiser they seem now. the good news is, she'll appreciate you in about 25 years.   :D

Natalie Portman fans need to see Beautiful Girls & Garden State.

That's unlikely. The Canadian elective process isn't the same as it is in the US - I believe you are from Monteal wellfleet? Plus, I think voting towards the Green Party would take votes away from the NDP since they have similar themed environmental interests.

I think if you are in a tightly contested riding with no hope for the NDP or Green Party candidate to win, then you have to vote Liberal... unless of course you don't care about healthy urban renewal with monies being allocated to upgrades in social, educational and medical areas.

Jaimoe

Oh yeah,

I watched The Constant Gardiner and The Life & Death Of Peter Sellars last night. Both were excellent. Sellars was about as screwed up and self-hating as Keith Moon.

EC... again, i SO hope you're right. i know this isn't the appropriate forum area for this topic. last elections i voted BQ oddly enough, although my riding had the greens, NDP, and Communist parties... we're so... VARIED!

Have them both on DVD. They're both great movies but I didn't think Amores Perros quite lived up to the hype. Y Tu Mama Tambien is good fun!
