QuoteI liked Fishing with John.  ;D

Never heard of it.
Is it Jim Jarmusch?
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I love westerns and Dead Man is one of the best modern day westerns.

Have you seen Open Range?
Best western I've seen in ages.

Yes I have. It's excellent. Of course, the best of all modern westerns is the HBO series Deadwood.

dragonboy

Yer I've heard great things about that.
I'm tempted to buy it on DVD but then my lovely wife wouldn't be able to watch it. We have one cable channel here in Japan that shows some HBO (Sopranos, Sex..., Curb... etc)
I'm hoping it will come to that channel soon.

I haven't seen Year Of The Horse, but Dead Man's score is by  Neil Young and his distorted Gibson with an overly-active Bigsby.
Great movie and great cast(Johnny Depp,John Hurt and Robert Mitchum). Even  Iggy Pop and Billy Bob Thornton have roles as really wild and crazy cowboys.

the neil young dead man OST is ace... it's all instrumental and johnny depp reading poetry.

my husband made me watch Unforgiven and maybe everyone's seen it but i thought it was so awesome... loved the fact that there wasn't a clear-cut good and bad and that you didn't know what to make of eastwood's character. yeah... good movie...
everything sucks. really.

It's a tv show that you can get on dvd.  There's only about six or seven episodes, but it's done by John Lurie, and each episode, he goes to come crazy place to do a fishing show.  But he doesn't really know what he's doing.  And neither do his friends that he brings with him (one per episode): Jim Jarmusch, Tom Waits, Matt Dillon, Willem Dafoe, Dennis Hopper.

It's quite enjoyable.  :)  Especially Thailand with Dennis Hopper.

(John Lurie's the dude from Down by Law)

So, that means it's cold?

From where I'm living: Bring on 40 degrees!!

EC

She means hot.  She's in Australia.  I think 40 degrees equals what we've got now as far as the extreme measures go.  ;)

I don't want 40 Celsius back any time soon. Toronto was miserably hot last summer.

ali

sorry, keep forgetting you use fahrenheit... yes, its summer down here & it's SO HOT! it barely cooled down over night, & there's more hot weather on the way. half the country seems to be on fire at the moment (usual summer bushfires)... so i'll probably be checking out lots of movies in the coming weeks!!  8)

ali

Saw "Rory O'Shea Was Here."  It is on HBO.  Was this big in Ireland or anything?  Was good.  Like the movies about these things.  Check it out.

hahahahaha.

I really didn't like Girl With a Pearl Earring at all.  What'd you think?

(You'll have to let us know how you like Junebug.  :))

I saw the Penn & Teller documentary The Aristocrats last night. I thought the first half was a bit painfully tedious, then it kinda grew on me. It's not very funny, but I think it may be the only film ever made to appeal specifically to comedians.
