QuoteThis could be an interesting debate/idea

Anyone else wanna do a thread with say, 16 comedies from this decade, and vote on a movie vs movie matchup???!??

Im proposing 4 regions (picture NCAA tourney, but starting with the Sweet 16 region)

Ill Loosely propose:
-An Apatow Region (with a possible fill in or 2)
-A Comedy-Drama Region
-A Stiller/Ferrell/Vaughn Region (with a possible fill in or 2)
-An Indie Comedy Region (not necessarily Indie, but not your standard box office 1)

Anyone else wanna do this?

If we can get say, 7 ppl (to make it uneven), Ill start a thread

For those who havent added their opinion on some movies they think are worthy of making the final 16, add some choices

Sure.
You should add Ghost World to the indie comedies.

I totally forgot about Ghost World. I love that film.

Anyway, some more of my favourite comedies of the decade (although some are loosely related to the genre):

Shaun of the Dead
Sideways
High Fidelity
Amelie
Finding Nemo  (one of the best films of the decade, period)
Shrek II
About a Boy
Little Miss Sunshine
The Station Agent
The Royal Tennebaums
About Schmidt

Here's a kind of off-the-wall comedy that I'd put in the top 10 for this decade:

Welcome to Collinwood

Very quirky, and it's set in a s***hole suburb of Cleveland.  George Clooney has a bit part, Sam Rockwell is a stitch, several other character actors you'd recognize. ;D

I know it's easy to hate Tom these days & Superman Returns wasn't all that but this is an excellent trailer:

Damn, that looks pretty awesome.  Have you seen Tropic Thunder yet?  Tom was quite hilarious as a movie executive in that.

Kind of saw a 'preview' of this when I had the Lions for Lambs DVD (which is pretty good to those who havent seen it)

Heard a bunch of stuff a couple months back about Valkyrie in various places. Apparently it got pushed back to its release wheres its at now. Ive heard, its where its at as far as release date (12/26) to try to get more Oscar buzz and ppl to go see it. Supposedly it was supposed to be released earlier, but they figured the timing would help. And 2009 sounded even worse.

I got nothing against Cruise (Last Samurai was awesome, Minority Report was a great SciFi), but Ive heard this might not be as good as advertised

I read that they had to re-shoot some scenes, another reason for the delay. I like a lot of Tom's movies, it's just the whole scientology/ego/lost-the-plot thing  ;)

Yes indeed!

The Water Horse (Legend Of The Deep) - very enjoyable if you can accept it for what it is (a children's film with slightly sub-par special effects)

Annie Hall - never get tired of this one!

Just watched George Washington, a beautiful, haunting and poetic film by David Gordon Green.

this was on TV a few months back when I was channelsurfing and I stopped on it. my buddy says something like, 'wow, this movie looks like it was made in the 80's'  :D

I think it had more to do with the channel it was on and that it wasnt a DVD or in HD, but it did look like it might have been made in 1986

A classic nonetheless

also, you cant forget Samuel L. Jax as the other computer dude.

QuoteHorror Of Dracula!!!

& so it begins...
Halloween Horror Movie No.2: The Omen (1976) - Richard Donner's first Omen movie has stood the test of time. Gregory Peck is great & Billie Whitelaw is chilling as Damien's 2nd nanny. Jerry Goldsmith, one of my fav soundtrack composers, adds an excellent errie, biblical score.

Kind of a spoiler but not really...

At the start of the movie my wife asked how many Omen movies there are. I told her there were 3 + a 4th a few years later & a recent remake. The movie had only 5 minutes to go & was about to reach it's climax when my wife said 'Wait, if there are 3 more movies he's not going to die, is he?'  ::)

One of my fav Kramer quotes:
Elaine: Hey, Kramer, listen, you've seen the Omen right? What exactly was that kid?
Kramer: Who, Damien? Nothing, just a mischievous, rambunctious kid!

;D
