QuoteI watched Burden of Dreams yesterday...documentary about the making of Fitzcarraldo.  From Wiki: "The film production was an incredible ordeal, and famously involved moving a 320-ton steamship over a hill without the use of special effects."  And it's based on a true story, athough apparently the real Fitzcarraldo dismantled the ship before moving it.

Fascinating.  Werner Herzog is such a crazy genius.

WAIT--didn't WH make Grizzly Man, too? i love him. i'll have to check that out!

Make sure you watch Fitzcarraldo first.

Going to watch The Magic Flute tonight.

Oh, hey, Mr. Fitzcarraldo...    ;D

I need to see your namesake, I haven't yet.

A Man Named Pearl - A great uplifting documentary about a black man in South Carolina who was once told that whites didn't want blacks in their neighborhood because "they didn't maintain their yards."  Well, he went on to make the most kickass garden ever as a self taught topiary artist!!

I too highly respect Werner Herzog but I am surprised by the love given to Grizzly Man.  Maybe its just that I didn't like the "Grizzly Man (he looked like David Lee Roth)"  His film with Bale and Zahn was excellent and unexpected as a more traditional Hollywood film.

Have peaked my interest now with Fitzcarroldo

Rescue Dawn was pretty good...felt like something was missing, but good nonetheless

Surely you jest? The movie is awful, but it did have a market when it came out thanks to increasing Communist paranoia that gripped the US (and Reagan in particular) at that time. I'm ashamed to admit that I saw it when it came out in 1984. The final scene is hilarious.

No he doesn't jest!  Surely you must be (jesting) Jaimoe.  It is a classic and I pity any one who feels any shame for watching the film, let alone enjoying it! :(

;D Well, maybe not 'Cinematic Perfection', but dude, it's High School kids killing Commies, and over the top action (and acting). Red Dawn is bad ass.  8-)

Heat is awesome. I've never seen The Score though...don't see many movies. Tell me about it.

Heat is awesome. I've never seen The Score though...don't see many movies. Tell me about it.

Ironically, Ive been talking a lot on another board the last few days on whether the scene (where Pacino asks DeNiro to have some coffee with him at the diner and they talk) is realistic or not, and cheesy or not. IMO, it was great.

And also, whether it was unbelievable/realistic for DeNiro to go back into the hotel to get Waingro when during the whole movie DeNiro predicates his character on not making stupid decisions. A less cut and dry argument.

Either way, Heat is 1 of my all-time favorites.

...As for The Score, it takes place in Montreal and stars DeNiro and Ed Norton, and Marlon Brando in his last film in a supporting role. DeNiro in a longtime safe-cracker and Brando comes to him with a job - to steal a priceless French artifact from the Montreal museum or customs house (cant remember exactly). However, DeNiro is ready to get out of the biz. Ed Norton has never worked with DeNiro, but works at this facility and has inside info of the building and wants in on the heist.

Its no Heat, but Id definitely recommend it. I own it, am a big DeNiro and Norton fan, and while its neither best, its better than most movies you could watch

If you guys like those you should check out The Game with Penn and Douglas.

Love The Game, probably David Fincher's most underrated/overlooked movie.

Penn is in it, but from what I remember he only had like 3-4 scenes, so I almost wouldnt even mention him.

Great flick though

The Trois Couleurs trilogy. Red and Blue were very good. White was confusing and had too many holes in the plot.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

BA had a good selection of movies on the plane. Watched as many as I could, some good (Swing Vote (I like KC, sue me!) and The Savages) some not bad (How to Lose Friends & Alienate People) & some terrible (Clone Wars)
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

I thought How to Lose.... was a book? Never knew it was a movie.

I wouldn't like to recommend Swing Vote but I really enjoyed it. A lot of people don't like Kevin Costner with good reason but I like some of his movies. Swing Vote was a silly, sweet movie, prefect for a long haul flight when you don't want to think too hard.
Savages was very good, you can't go wrong with Philip Seymour Hoffman & Laura Linney can you? + Chris from the Wire has a small part.
I think the book was How to Make Friends & Influence People? I like Simon Pegg so wanted to watch this but the script was pretty bad & his character didn't have much going for him. Like I said, not bad but pleased I didn't buy it.
Clone Wars was fucking dire!

I'm sure I watched more movies than that...

Ill probably pass on that Costner, but Ill def check out that Simon Pegg movie..I think Megan Fox is in that one too....yummy
