You really need to watch the series and then watch the film again. Firefly rules and Serenity is the conclusion.

Give it up for a good Canadian "superhero" movie. I'm still waiting for a big-budget Captain Canuck film. I hope it gets made  before I die.

I'll try to get my hands on it... I really enjoyed the movie.

You should be able to buy the complete series for under $20. Buy it. I'm currently watching the series again on Blu-ray (which cost far more than $20).

Sunset Boulevard, made in 1950.  What a great film - we're working our way through the "Top 250" on Lovefilm.com, and these random gems keep turning up.
The trouble with the straight and the narrow is it's so thin, I keep sliding off to the side

They have the complete series watch instantly on netflix.  I am almost all the way through.  I really enjoy it and will watch the movie again after I finish.  Thanks for letting me know about how good the show is

Before checking out the Thursday nightlife in Nashville, I went to see Kick Ass.  Great movie.  Cartoon violence, little girl using the C word, Nick Cage.  What more could you ask for?  A clunky ending but a fun ride.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I finally got through lost highway.  what the fuck? I thought david lynch movie's were suppose to be entertaining?  I fell asleep trying to watch this movie twice.  Then when it was over I was pissed off at how stupid the ending was.  It felt like he was trying to be pretentious and say "fuck you this is art" but really the only person that movie probably made sense to was Dave Lynch himself.

Unless I'm missing something huge about this movie, it seemed like a clusterfuck of boring.  "omgz like they switched bodies" "omgz is he trapped in hell?" "omgz this ending fucking blows".

wtf? seriously.  Was lynch trying to make a tasteful softcore porno?

Dune kept my attention, I don't know if I was too tired when I watched it or what.  It pissed me off to be honest.  It was like David Lynch was torturing Bill Pullman or Bill was too afraid to shoot the sex scenes or whatever so they cast Getty.  oh well.  The movie kinda gave me a headache when I was watching it.  Especially the music.

Is David Lynch a weirdo outside of his films?

When mentioning Lynch's filmmaking style, one film stands out as relatively normal in a narrative sense: Elephant Man. Oh, Lynch is a legendary weirdo outside of his films, but a flashy dresser.

Quotesomebody suggest some movies to watch/download this weekend, I'm out of ideas.  anything newer that is a must see?

I'm not going to go back in this thread, so you may have seen some of these (some older):

Gran Torino- Clint!
Crash (2005)- Netflix #1 rental
The Departed- Scorcese!
The Cider House Rules- watched it last night, followed by Acoustic Chorale (very high), a cathartic experience
Gone Baby Gone- Ben Affleck's directorial debut
Into the Wild- great book, great movie
Star Trek- the new one, surprisingly good
No Country for Old Men- the Coen Bros., 'nuff said
The Wrestler- Mickey returns triumphant

Hopefully, there are some you haven't seen.

thanks dude.  I've seen all the bolded.  not sure about ben affleck, he bugs me I'll check it out though since you named some pretty bad ass movies.  if it sucks I'm probably going to hate you.

man I HATED Gran Tourismo- I think it is one of the worst "acclaimed" movies ever!

But I always think that I'm going crazy because so many trustworthy people said they liked it.
