This Is England
Been wanting to see this movie for awhile, finally did, thought it was great...Story was brilliant and believable, cinematography made it actually feel like it was shot 20+ years ago (as did the clothing). I guess the main character about 13 years old when this was made, but he looks more like 10 years old, and Im not sure Ive ever seen a better performance by someone under 16 years old (not to mention he had never been in a film before). Stephen Graham (Tommy from Snatch) was also excellent, and it was great to see him in a large role and more outspoken, charismatic, and in-charge character. Not sure what else to really say about it. Pretty sure DB and some other have talked about this one and Meadows other movies in here
8.6/10
Yes. It's an outstanding film and the sound tracking is pretty damn great. Do yourself a favor and watch Dead Man's Shoes also. Just utterly haunting performances.

I actually watched it last week so I forgot about that, but the soundtrack was great. I was loving the Toots&Maytals! What did you think about that kid's performance? Like I said, not sure Ive ever seen a better performance by someone so young.

I'll definitely check out DMS
Toots is fantastic. If you do not have any, looking into it. It's worth it.

and there will be a sort of sequel. http://www.deadline.com/2010/04/this-is-england-becomes-tv-drama/

Thomas Turgoose is a great, young actor. He's in another Shane Meadows movie, Sommers Town.

QuoteO-L-D Terry Gilliam:  "Time Bandits" just got around to it and found it a typical TG trip.

"Book of Shadows, Blair Witch 2"--mostly because it made a list of best horror movies, otherwise it would have remained ignored--meh

Blair Witch 2 made a list of best horror movies? What list? The movie rightly bombed at the box-office and it's one of the more terrible sequels ever produced, which is saying a lot. However, I admire the original film and it remains terrifying and influential.

My sister gave me American History X to watch.
My goodness. Edward Norton is so amazing! How can I hate and love one character in the space of two hours?

After watching that movie for the first time in awhile a few months ago, I think it's the best movie thats been made in the last 15 years, with Edward Norton's performance being the best in that time period as well. He plays the 3 different phases of Derek Vinyard (pre-skinhead, during, post-skinhead) flawlessly and you'd think he actually was one back in the day. Everything about this movie is powerful, whether its positive or negative.

'Drugstore Cowboy'

One of my favourite films.

Definitely my favorite Gus Van Sant movie. I also like a similarly themed movie from Larry Clark, Another Day In Paradise, a good bit. James Woods is great in that one.

My 2nd favorite GVS movie is probably the black comedy To Die For. Never seen a movie quite like that one.

Ed Norton is just a fantastic actor.  I even liked him in The Hulk.  He is intense, can be quite funny, and sometimes downright scary.  I'm intrigued by this new film he's in, playing two twin brothers in a dark comedy.  Let me go find the trailer on You Tube to post below.  BRB.

There is an amazing quality version of that out, I'm going to PM you in a minute.  The movie was pretty good, Norton was great as always.  He's been in some of my favorite movies.  Fight Club, American History X.  One of the real actors.

Leaves of Grass was pretty good.  It was cool seeing norton play his twin.  as for the whole twin concept that is happening in film these days I can't say I get it.  The CGI twin has been done to death, at least in Leaves of Grass the actor doing it is top shelf.

Yeah, I posted that trailer way back in this thread when I first heard about that movie. After his run of movies in the 90's (American History X, Rounders, Fight Club, Primal Fear are some of my all time favorite movies), Norton was on his way to becoming my favorite actor, but most of his movies this last decade weren't near as good IMO except for 25th Hour and The Score, and he hasnt seemed to challenge himself with roles. Either way, Leaves of Grass looks like it has the potential for his best performance since the 90's

Hawkeye

The Men Who Stare At Goats - Great cast (obviously), so I was expecting a lot.  Not bad, but maybe a little underdeveloped.  Lacking a little something I thought.  Maybe I need to watch again.  3/5

The Imaginarium of Dr. Parnassus - Again, great cast.  And again, I thought it was okay.  Great visuals, interesting concept, but I thought, in the end, it wasn't all that moving.  3/5

Lymelife - maybe the only role I've seen Alec Baldwin in where I didn't like him at all.  mostly about a kid growing up, struggling with separating parents, and a girl he likes and her dad, who has lyme disease.  2.75/5

Gentlemen Broncos - from the makers of Napoleon Dynamite.  has Jemaine Clement from Flight of the conchords.  Thought I'd give it a chance.  Fell asleep halfway through and not sure I care to finish it.  But I probably will.  1/5

I liked men who stared at goats.  felt it was solid but not top level.  more of a fun movie with good acting than a seriously developed story will great acting.  it could have been better for sure agreed.

Imaginarium could have been bad ass if ledger would have stayed alive to finish his role.  I felt the dream sequences they edited in with depp and the other two dudes was fairly weak.  ledger was good as fuck in it.  sucks the dudes dead he had some talent.

just watched The Wolfman with Hopkins and Co.  decent remake? not as good as I thought it would be.  6.8/10

Alice in Wonderland(Tim Burton's) - 4/10 - lame.

capt. scotty

I thought Goats was good but didnt live up to its potential. It needed more Jeff Bridges.

I was going to watch Lymelife since 1 of those movie channels has been playing it, but I think i'll pass. Lyme disease? Gimme a break, there's a cure for that shit.

I want to see Wolfman. I didnt think that was on DVD yet, something tells me you bought it out of a trunk in Detroit though. I thought it looked real good.

Yeah, I thought Alice was pretty boring. Never was a Disney animated movie I liked in the first place.

I watched 1/2 of "The Road" last night on HD in demand.  Paused it for a few minutes, then it wouldn't come back.  First half was depressing as hell.  I may try to watch the last half since it'll be available til tonight.  Might just abandon it though.  Anyone seen it?  Is it worth finishing?

Havent seen it, read some reviews today though that said it was hard to watch at times, but overall very well done

cinematography was excellent.  the story line was real dark and depressing, especially after repeated bong rips lol

I'm running out of movies to see.  Do to my recent laziness the past year and a half I believe I have watched the majority of movies I would probably consider good that I've heard of.  Now I have no idea what to watch, none of the plots these days seem that interesting anymore.

I've been in the mood for mind expanding type documentaries or films that are really artfully done but coherent.  I'm not read for eraserhead yet.  one day.   So recommend me random shit please for the sake of my sanity.  I still have to check out that ben affleck movie.  I'm going to go watch "My Son, My Son, What have Ye Done".  It's herzog which is the only reason I'm watching it.  I don't want to polarize myself I need to expand.  herzog is so creepy and awesome though.  it's hilarious in life at the end of the earth or whatever that doc he did is about Antarctica.  When he asked the scientist if pengiuns were "homosexual" I almost lost it.  If you like beautiful movies it's really well done.  It's not cliche boring tundra either.  stoned and rambling once again.  pitch me more ideas.  your favorite movies.

I thought the road was pretty good.  It seemed fairly realistic but like you guys said sad as fuck.
