The Fighter - great film with amazing and heartfelt performances. Christian Bale is astonishing.

COULD NOT AGREE MORE.....he owned that f'ing screen.  Excellent!

And as a lifelong fan of boxing, I thought the fight scenes were fairly well done; on par with the surprisingly authentic boxing scenes in Rocky Balboa.

I'm waiting for an Arturo Gatti bio-pic. The source material alone makes for a great but tragic story.

So  many great boxing stories out there, and I agree that the scenes were very authentic.  I also thought the family portrayal was perfect!  The wardrobe & hair alone were  worth the price of admission.  I am embarrassed to admit that I owned one of the stretchy knit plaid bodysuit tops that Melissa Leo was wearing in one of the scenes.  Classic!  The sisters were just killin me...and Amy Adams, as always, flawless!

Fearless Freaks - What a great documentary!  I've listened to the Flaming Lips throughout the years and at various times have had Transmissions, the Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi (my aunt's name) on rotations.  Yet I still knew little about them.  So glad I saw this one!

Up in the Air - Pretty good flick that reminded me in many ways of the international airport to airport life that my brother lives.  Nothing like watching a Clooney love story by myself. ;D  He still looks amazing! ::)

It Might Get Loud - seen it before but man do I love this one no matter how uncomfortable it is watching how outclassed the Edge is.

I might have to watch this one just for that reason  ;D

I wouldn't say he's outclassed. He's just a far different type of guitarist; certainly innovative, but from a different era with a decidedly modern approach. However, he shouldn't have been cast in the doc (but he probably was cast because he's so very different than Page and Page Jr.).

I remember watching an old Canadian TV special with jazz great Lenny Breau, Chet Atkins and classical guitar star Liona Boyd. The three started to jam, but Liona had to sit it out since she can't jam. I don't think it's that much different than the Edge with White and Page.  Edge isn't a jammer and all he knows is U2 and tech stuff. He doesn't know how to devolve.
I do believe he is outclassed.  Though I'm not a U2 fan, I readily acknowledge his contributions to the success of the band and his used of effects and technology as they became available.  Though Guggenheim made it a point to stress the Edge's lack of technical ability early in the film when interviewing him and noting his love of punk, the jam sessions felt awkward.  Otherwise it made sense to cast him because he offered a greater counterpoint than the other two who were so rooted in blues.

EDIT:  Also, if you're gonna go by the "EDGE", I think you should be a damn good player. ::)

Fearless Freaks is great! It's interesting to drive by 13th and Blackwelder to take a peek at Wayne's place in a sketchy part of town.

And you got a thing for Clooney?  ??? ;)

The Social Network - very good movie with well-rounded storylines and great character development. I don't think it's better than The Fighter (of the big 2010 flicks I've seen so far), but I liked it better than Black Swan and Inception. I still haven't seen True Grit, The King's Speech and Barney's Version; I will see these in the next few weeks as Oscar is just around the corner.

Yes, I agree. I really liked The Social Network a LOT, but I loved the fighter and thought it was a little better, but could go either way.
I am also in my pre Oscar frenzy, and saw the kings speech, inception, the kids are alright.  Still need to see black swan, blue valentine, and true grit.

I also saw The Kids Are All Right (spelling important for all you Who fans and fans of the Kids Are Alright documentary) and want to see Blue Valentine, but I hear it's a marriage wrecker, which has me hesitant since I recently got back together with my wife after a year of separation.

Thanks!

I do want to see it. I know Blue Valentine was a big hit Sundance and Ryan Gosling is a fantastic actor (and a surprisingly good singer/songwriter). He's come a long way since his Young Hercules days.

I like The Social Network a lot and I think it has the best shot at getting the best picture Oscar. I preferred Black Swan as far as 2010 goes but wouldn't be disappointed if it went either way. The Social Network is getting the kind of praise The Hurt locker did last year and I think it will carry into the Oscars. Fincher's Zodiac should've gotten the attention The Social Network has, I'd even put that one in my top ten of the decade though I still consider No Country For Old Men the best film that year. I have yet to see The Fighter, not a big fan of boxing but yet i love boxing movies so might have to catch this soon.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Heathers - Don't know why I overlooked this for so long, it had some of the funniest, memorable lines ever. The ending was a little sloppy, and as I suspected was due to a re-write. I'm a fan of Winona Ryder, I wish she was in more watchable movies.

Oh Heathers...how I adore that movie!  I remember seeing it in the theater in 8th grade and I have probably watched it a dozen times since.  But not in many years (note to self: must cue it on Netflix).
I recently watched Catfish and have Exit Through the Gift Shop on my ipad for a work trip starting tomorrow.  And speaking of said work trip, I will be in Salt Lake and since my folks live in Park City, me and the biz partner will be heading up on Sunday to visit and catch a flick at Sundance.  We have tickets for Prairie Love.  Looks good!
Prairie Love Trailer

Then the following weekend me, Mr. Wizzard and my sister head back to Park City for a long weekend filled with movies and snowboarding!  I cannot wait!

lil sis

"What's your damage, Heather?!"  ;D Love that movie.

Saw The Fighter last weekend.  Christian Bale is just phenomenal.

I found this movie to be really, really slow, but Bridges and Kim Basinger were so good it didnt really matter and their characters kept my interest.

I'm really really slow so it was perrrrrrrrfect.  The image of Jeff Bridges in his man gown playing squash will be forever burned in my brain.

The King's Speech - wonderful and often touching film. Superior performances by the leads, including great work by an all-star support cast (Sir Derek Jacobi, Guy Pearce, Michael Gambon and Timothy Spall). This film lives up to all the hype and then some.

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

Kings Speech - 8/10 - I had no interest in seeing this but once it started it flowed really nice and keeps your attention.  definitely better than expected.

Conviction 6.5/10 - decent, slow, but decent.

My Soul To Take 4/10 - (insert jerk off motion)
