Album of the Year:

DJ Rupture - Uproot.

I don't where this guy came from or even where he gets his beats from...but when you put this guys record on - your whole fucking house will rattle along with every organ in your body.  I have found myself laughing while listening to Uproot, not because anything comical exists within it, but because it is so intense, so fun and new that laughter seems like the only proper emotion to extract from myself.  Go cop this album! It is Dub Step in the dark streets of London.  It a slice of a foreign world blended into a modern Hip Hop headphone.  It is a sleazy Jamician dance club built on top of a breezy mind out day dream.  It is pure perfection.
God damn those shaky knees.

Well, I don't. Maybe it was released in USA 2007? I don't know because I've never been there but I'm pretty sure it was released in 2008 in Sweden at least. That's what I go for.

This one lands in a grey area since it was released online in 2007 but not physically released until January 1st, 2008.

I had a physical copy in my hands Christmas eve '07. It was the discbox. I'm not trying to make a big deal about it, just sayin.  ;D

I also got the discbox around then!  I hadn't thought about that...  Mine looks different though.  It's grey and looks like it has scribbles all over it.

Whatever! At least for me it is a 2008 release because in the part of the world where I live it did come out in stores in 2008, and I'm going for that. That's about it!

My top three, in random order.

Why everyone slept on Frightened Rabbit, I'll never know.  (Too blinded by Vampire Weekend as they wore the emperor's new clothes?)  This was amazing.

Deastro gave me faith in music.  These songs were recorded by him, on his own, while he was a teenager living in his parents' house -- and they're better than what most artists on major labels end up producing.  This was even released by emusic originally because he was unsigned.  Thankfully, he was signed by Ghostly International by the end of the year.  So there is some justice in the world.

Need I say more?

More to come...
