I think this is their best album yet!  Their previous ones were pretty hit or miss.  I listened to this one straight through, and never had to skip a song!  Icky Thump, Bone Broke, and Rag & Bone are definite favs.  And how adorable is Meg White??  Her beautiful smile on the cover just makes me grin everytime  :)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps hearing Led Zeppelin I or II in some of these songs. Little Cream Soda and Catch Hell Blues are my favs, so far.

I've always associated the white stripes with LZ, I'm glad I'm not the only one.  I believe Jack gets a little inspiration from Deep Purple too.

word.
Amazing album! I love it. I think I have to get all their stuff.

I'm a die hard White Stripes fan but I will say that if you really like the rocking/dirty/garage-y sounding stuff, get the first three albums.  They've all been re-released and shouldn't be hard to find.  I thought Elephant was just okay and didn't really care much for Get Behind Me Satan save for a few songs.  Also, thier B-sides are excellent, I might be able to hook you up with some digital copies if you are unable to find them otherwise.

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

I think their most satisfying three albums are Elephant, De Stijl and Icky Thump. I like all the albums a great deal. I love the first album, but it doesn't make for an easy listen. I think White Blood Cells is a little overrated, but contains the most anthems. Satan is ambitious and was a necessary experiment: I think Instinct Blues is one of their heaviest songs yet.

BTW, is anyone outside of Canada reading the Canadian tour reports from the Canadian press? Amazing stories have already surfaced.

Jaimoe

The Canadian tour was incredible and the surprise performances - like in a park in the Yukon, on a Winnipeg city bus, in a mill in a hamlet north of London Ontario, in a classroom in Toronto, on a small fising boat floating in Charlottetown Prince Edward Island, in a bowling alley etc... -  were unbelievable and extremely clever. Their concert in Toronto was fucking great and the footage from their 10th anniversary show two days ago from Glace Bay (Cape Breton Island), Nova Scotia was amazing. This is one of the most memorable and important tours by a single band to hit Canada in a generation.

God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

dragonboy

Sorry Red, I completely missed that  :-[

In honor of them geting back together live, sort of, for Conan this Friday night on his last show. Wish I could find that glorious video of them from a previous Conan but apparently NBC hates you tube.

I'm not a White Stripes fan, but I've always admired Jack's guitar playing skills.

Cool they played a Soledad tune. I'm kind of on the fence when it comes to the Stripes. I love'em, but Jack kind of pisses me off a bit. I hate that he said he moved to Nashville to make better music. Basically he threw Detroit under the bus. After all the stuff he said, I'm not sure if Detroit would welcome him back.

Jack's embrace of Nashville is a phase more than anything, although I think he's gradually distancing himself from garage rock. I love Detroit rock, but I don't take his past comments to be insulting. He's taking on a Nashville personna, which is fine by me.

To me, The White Stripes are one of the most important and best rock bands to come around in 15 years. 5 great albums and one listenable experimental release (Get Behind Me Satan) is pretty impressive, plus The Raconteurs kick ass and so does Van Lear Rose.

Are they coming out with an album in 09??

I guess we'll find out of Friday, especially if they do a new song. Jack's said that he isn't done with The Stripes.

I hope they tour again. Getting to see The Raconteurs was great, but I never saw the Stripes and really need to do that.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Speaking of Jack White and Nashville, have you seen the new Raconteurs video of "Old Enough" with Ricky Skaggs and Ashley Monroe?  It's awesome.  Brendon Benson and Ashley sound great together.
