QuoteI've gone to the last 4 Bonnaroo's and a lot of the time I'll use the headliner time slot to go back to the campsite and cook up some food and drink some beers.  There is about 100 other acts besides the headliners and like some have been pointing out, a lot of the headliners I can easily pass on.  I go to Bonnaroo because of the great quantity of music I want to see and hear.  If 3 time slots are unappealing, that's fine.

That being said, I would love to see the Boss again.  I've seen him 3 times and no one puts as much energy into a show.  He makes sure to give everything he's got at every show.  A lot of time you get 3 hours of greatness.

i agree..bonnaroo has become all about the late night shows and the smaller stages; so much good music, it's not all necessarily from 8-11pm. ;-)

Having a ton of music and a ton of bands is great but also think about how many bands you miss.  There are only so many hours in the day.  Obviously you go for the bands you really want to see and that is more than enough to get your money's worth especially at a big fest like the Roo but one of the things I always hear from my friends who have gone is they missed such and such band, or didn't get a chance to check this band out because they were playing on a stage far from our camp site or another band we liked was playing at the same time.  My friends missed Neil Young one year because they got lazy at their site and didn't make it over.   Now I realize that was their fault but I know from festival experience it does get tiring going back and forth from stages to camp site and back.  It would kill me if two bands I really liked were playing at the same time.  I remember Lollapuloza a few years ago had MMJ and the Raconteurs playing at the same time.   I think there are positives and negatives to having a ton of bands and a ton of stages.

i missed the flaming lips in '06 because i finally crashed hard after something of 30 hours of non-stop action.

i consider the trip to 'roo to be worth it if MMJ has latenight slotting. they could have fucking hanson headline with Jan Terri doing the pre-headline act and I wouldn't care.

The way I typically evaluate it is that I consider the average ticket price to an average concert $30. If I can add up enough bands that I would normally pay $30 if they came to my area, and that amount exceeds the ticket price, then I'll buy a 'roo ticket.

Im with bold99 in that especially with Bonnaroo, every year I see the lineup times for each day, there is at least 1 instance and usually 2 each day that have conflicts with bands I want to see. I cant stand that and is probably part of the reason why I havent gone yet.

And el chode, according to my sister Hanson is pretty good these days. You might wanna check them out  :D

QuoteIt's cool to see a lot of different genres and artists at Roo but when they put such lame bands in the headline spots.... Well let's just say I sold my tickets to last years Roo and didn't pre-order them this year..  And I don't regret it..

Well, to be honest maybe a little because I had heard from a friend they were selling day passes at the gate last year... Can anyone confirm??? I would have gone to Tennessee for one night of MMJ no doubt.

You heard wrong. Bonnaroo doesn't sell day passes at all, just 3 day passes, and those could be purchased @ the local radio station in town. Don't know the call letters, but they have been doing that the last couple years from what I have seen.

Also, it is a big chance, but there are alwys people trying to sell their tickets at the festival for alot cheaper than the face value, but its not something I would recommend.

Peter Pan had a good roast before he was beat to a pulp
And the ocean spray that kept you at bay
Invites you to take a big gulp

I have no idea...... :-/

roast=smoked
ocean spray=gin & juice
(this is definitely a snoop dog reference, he's also already playing 3 other festivals :-)

i swear to god, though, if THE KILLERS headline, i might have to reconsider. i hate that band THAT much.

I knew there was a reason I liked you, penny   ;D  Anyway, I doubt the Killers will play, aren't they already playing Coachella?

I'd be so down with Bruce as a headliner.  I lucked into some crazy good seats to see him last year, and he still puts on a helluva show.

Who knows the Killers might have decided to fellate the entire music industry like Jack Johnson did last summer and get themselves as a headliner on every festival possible

they epitomize everything i hate about music--! do they even play instruments? when they first came out, all these UK festivals wanted them to headline and they couldn't because they didn't have enough songs...you'd think they could play the whole album and do some covers? no, they couldn't do it because they didn't know any other songs...they are awful. i HATE them. if someone says they like they, they automatically lose credibility w/me. EVEN if they have all the verve's b-side collection;

so far i've heard ben harper, bruce, phish, grace potter, derek trucks, allman bros, the dead.

I think they play instruments, don't they?  For me, the problem is that their music has no soul; it is strangely sexless.  I dunno.  I recently spent about 4 hours in a car with a friend who had the new record on repeat.  Miraculously, we are still friends.

I suspect we'll have a leak of the full Roo lineup this week.

el_chode

i never believe the leaks. however, based on current activity in the industry generally, plus that hint, I'll wager on:

Phish (headline)
Bruce (headline)
Snoop Dogg (headline)
The Dead
Something Claypool related (ok, that's a copout/given)
Ben Harper
Franti & Spearhead
The Crowes
UM (latenight)
The Strokes
She & Him
Animal Collective
Dr. Dog
Allmans to atone for previous sins
I think Grace Potter is a given
oh, and the Killers and Nicole Atkins f/Jim James

I could def make the trip if that 8% of the artists end up announced, and that 8% is extrapolated  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

I dont understand Snoop as a headliner though...I mean, I wouldnt mind hearing him tear through the whole Doggystyle album, but headliner?

I don't think he'd get top-tier billing at Roo, not by a longshot.

Derek Trucks has hinted that Dickey may play with the Allmans again in the near future. By the sounds of it, it won't be a permanent thing, but wouldn't Bonnaroo be the perfect event for this reunion to happen other than a Beacon show or two?

Ghosts_on_TV

Spritulized confirmed a while ago, from what I understand. WHich would be awesome.  8-)

I also wouldn't mind another Hold Steady and Andrew Bird set. Noble Beast is fucking awesome.
