What's up with the 1/2 Run Thru.  That's my favorite song...  The build up to the second half is what makes the second 1/2 so effective.  This needs to change.

AGREED!!!!
The fact that my hearts beating, is all the proof you need.

Gideon and Lowdown owned me!! Loved all the change ups and the fact that the band was giving all and having an absolute blast despite the lack luster crowd. Somewhere in between Laylow and Dondante everyone finished their power naps and finally "got it"! Jim was so chatty reminiscing about his UK days.

So Jim went to UK? I'm not up on my MMJ band member histories.

HIGH on SOUND

The crowd was mostly young college kids (on the floor at least). Kind of a strange atmosphere for a MMJ show.

The band sounded great. I'm ready for some new songs, though. I feel like I've seen roughly the same show the last few times. All in all it was good, but I couldn't get into as much as usual.

La barba de Castro

Not too much else to add then what has already been said. Loved 'Butch Cassidy.' Loved the ever evolving 'Dondante.' Can't wait to see that one again later this year. I did find this video though:

Also, did anybody else see the guy get tackled by security backstage? I think only the people on the left side closer to the stage were probably able to see it, but about halfway through 'Golden' security tackled some guy in the tunnel behind the stage the guys came out of during the night. Anyone know anything about this?

I made the local paper here in Lexington.  It was on the front page of the paper today so quite a few people hit me up today saying they saw it.  Funny shit really.    http://www.kentucky.com/2011/04/18/1711562/my-morning-jacket-thrills-its.htmlr

dead, think of it this way:  when the new album comes out some of these songs will be off the set list.  best to get in a few listens before they go the way of "O".

--last night they opened with "magheeta".  the last time i saw them play that was THE night i broke my foot at T5.  b/c it was ISM night, that song opened their set.  when they opened with it last night i was able to throw down in my usual-leaping-about-whiplash-inducing-fashion rather than balancing on my leg.  kind of Set Things Right and Good.

--butch cassidy:  stunner of the night.  wow wow wow.

--circuital:  some version of this would fit nicely in a Bridge School set-list.  just planting a seed...  ;)

(and now it isn't sleep but a low-battery that is compelling me to shut the computer. still i need to get on the road if i want to get to l'ville b4 all the restaurants close)

The DARK

I rather like that we didn't get any new songs. It's fun wondering how songs from the album will translate live, but it can be nerve-wracking the other way around. And you know i couldn't resist a youtube bootleg if it were out there  ;).

Also, according to that Amazon clip, we're less than 10 days away from the Holdin on to Black Metal single! Good times on the horizon.

I have mixed feelings about no new songs. One, had we had a bunch of new songs we mightve not gotten Low Down or Butch Cassidy or Epic Dondante intro. However, of the 5 times I have tickets to see them this year (including last night), 3 of the sets are pre-chicago, and by three I'll be way more than ready.

This was one of my favorite performances of Gideon.  Jim came over and just kind of rubbed his head all over tom's shoulder and back while they were just tearing it up.  Dancefloors was great.  They played the end of Run Thru and it kicked so much ass.

I got about halfway home (which is Oldham County) and had a blowout.  Had to change a tire on the side of I-64 in pitch black.  A state trooper pulled up behind me to assist.  While we were making conversation, he said "What were you doing in Lexington?" "Concert." Who was playing?" "My Morning Jacket."  "Did they play Off The Record?"
Then we had a setlist discussion while I looked like an ass for not knowing how to get my spare out from where it's bolted up under my van.

that's great!! (i  mean..half of that story-sorry about the tire)
but come on...there's nothing sexy about poop. Nothing.  -bbill

Can someone cite a specific example of the Dondante variations to which you are referring?  I think I know what you mean, but can't quite put my finger on it.  I'd love to go back to listen to some good examples of the variants, including (of course) a recording of last night's performance (or maybe a good You Tube vid).  Much obliged.

I just plowed through all of the youtubes from Sunday night I could find.   Well worth doing - great as always and a good story before Evil Urges.

Regarding dondante, it's gone from all sparse and eerie to a heavier kashmir crunch.   See My Morning Jacket Lexington
