It was so freaking cool!  The band was phenomenal.  Added a whole new dimension to the songs that I've heard 1000x over.  And the Esau!

Girl that was you!!!  Hahahahah I was watchin you through most of what I saw, just dancin' and lovin' it up the way I would've done too!!!  That's great that you were there!!!  Thanks for representin' the dancin' hippie spirit  :D

I'm just going to say this, as both a Zeppelin fan and a Deadhead, I think I may like Jerry's slow hand, echoed-blues version of "Nobody's Fault But Mine" better than the stadium
rock Zeppelin version...but I guess it depends on the day...

Here's a better pic:

It was pretty darn fun!  My inner Deadhead was out in full force.

Darkstarflashes

I got into the Grateful Dead full-force right after having seen them live on Tuesday, June 15, 1993 at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky (much like I got into MMJ after seeing them live in Louisville). I had listened to some of their stuff and even had The Best of the Grateful Dead: Skeletons From The Closet. However, I didn't really connect with them until my one and only live show experience. Since that time, I have collected a lot of their stuff. I guess I love them, like I do My Morning Jacket, because you know they are doing it for the sake of making music and for the sake of the fans. They knew how important it was to give it a great effort every time they stepped out onto the stage. The fans were there for them, and they were there for the fans. It has to be as simple as that.

Tired Eyes

How is the Mickey Hart Band?  They're playing not too far away from me next Friday and I've never seen the band.

Grateful For This!

Grateful Dead & Duane Allman - Dark Star / Spanish Jam 1970
I love me some Spanish Jam.  That's some sick shit right there!

Yes! I just started looking for The Grateful Dead and The Allman Brothers together on YouTube and found these couple of songs from 1970. I had downloaded a part of a show from around this same time from the old GDLive Internet site about 12 or 13 years ago. It was free then and had all kinds of great recordings available. I had a very slow computer then, so I had to run it day and night to get the concerts (and individual songs) that I could downloaded. (This was also during the time Napster was about to be shut down.)

I was just listening to this last night, what a co-inky-dince!  Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac is also in there on guitar at some point too.  What a night that must've been!

Have y'all been keeping up with Hidden Track's 31 Days of Dead? Here's the link to yesterday's selection. I'm not super well versed in their recordings, but it looks interesting. Yesterday was day 18, but you can click back and see the earlier picks.

Thanks Fully!  Lots of good picks in there, I didn't know about it.  I'm always on the look out for a well researched guide to the hidden gems in the Dead's live recordings.  I have A LOT and there is so much good stuff I don't have.  That guy knows what he's talking about.  Thanks again!

So a few months back I got the mythical "hard drive" in my possession (nearly every live recording of the Grateful Dead ever made) from a dear friend in Marin.  At the time I was in need of a computer and speaker upgrade so I haven't delved into it very deeply yet.  But I got a new Mac yesterday and am going to hook it up today.

Oh oh what I want to know....
What are some of your most favorite shows?  Give me some gems to hunt down on this 1TB of GD love.

Oh, that's a loaded question!  Where to start, where to start?

Try anything from May '77 (New Haven, Boston, Cornell, Buffalo)
April '78 (14th- 24th)
Fall 79 is killer (New Haven, Cape Cod, Nassau).
Summer 85 is excellent  6-27-85, 6-28-85, 6-30-85
People love Spring '90, too.
MSG NYC Fall 90 when Hornsby first joined is great, too. 9-19-90 and 9-20-90!!!!
Berkeley July 84
Santa Fe 83
Venetta Oregon summer 72 is epic
Fillmore East Feb '70

Just off the top of my head.  Have fun!
