Betting on Williamsburg Waterfront

Looking at the venues schedule it looks like a show is every 2 weeks.

There is basically a big hole from 8/12 - 8/29.

Fits perfectly with MMJ's Philly show.

I find it also weird that there was no "official" announcement of the Philly show, so maybe they will do a quick Northeast tour before ACL.  No email, nothing even on the homepage on the show.

I fully expect them to be on the road until ACL.

It is an all GA venue.

They could do it one of two ways:

1.  Have special tickets that let you get in 30-60 minutes before everyone else.
2.  Have a roped off area in the front for the fan club.

I'm sure they want to hook the fanclub up as much as possible, but I can't imagine them scrapping a successful concert (8,000 people) because they want their fan club to have special seats.

A lot of GA places will have a sectioned off "pit" or "vip" GA section...

I don't want to jynx it by speculating about logistics for a concert that hasn't been announced yet though!

i think betting on w'burg waterfront is a solid bet. as for how roll call would work there .. when roll call first came out it said it'd be offered when/where available so i'd think shows that are generally GA anyway would not really offer any benefits except maybe just being able to purchase early (so that you don't get shut out) and maybe bypassing the horrid ticketmaster fee's and such?? i haven't had a chance to use my roll call membership to buy tickets yet so i'm not sure what kind of fee's (if any) are attached to that.

hells yes

it does make sense to have it here but it doesn't really seem to fit into the handpicked cool historic seated venue or whatever theme they are doing for this tour.

brn2plybal

They seem to really dig the outdoor venues.

Not much else would work well for them in the NYC area.

What about a triumphant return to T5? Or have they out grown that place? They could take down MSG again too, that would be fun.

At this point I don't think they would play there.

I believe next summer will be a full ampitheater (with a strong supporter) tour.

Fall/Winter will be multinight runs at small awesome theaters (Ryman, Beacon, Fox, ect..)

Spring will be Europe

Summer will be sheds

shortlist of places i hope they never play or return to:

1. T5 - just don't get me started. i think it's a shitty venue & there are only a few tolerable places to spend the show
2. Jones Beach - it's hard as hell for NYC'ers to get to. the train/shuttle system they had in place is no more. also, they don't sell beer or alcohol which i think is lame .. even though i personally don't drink @ shows (i hate to leave and go to the bathroom). one time i missed the train to get home and we had to pay $120 in cab fare to get back. screw that!

** honorable mention ** MSG .. i still think that venue is too big for them, which to me (selfishly speaking) is a good thing. bring on the radio city, the beacon and united palace even (gorgeous place though a bit out of the way). i don't like looking around to see a ton of empty seats. i think MMJ is in an awkward phase as far as how big they are .. they are close to getting really freaking huge but not quite there so some venue's seem too small, some seem too big. the allman bros. are freaking huge but you don't see them playing MSG .. it's always the beacon. to me there is just something lost .. energy lost .. when you play a room with alot of (empty) space. let's have the frenetic energy with a full(er) house.

I think their days at Terminal 5 are done.

I think that was a unique circumstance.  Terminal 5 is notorious for giving bands cheap rent, especially on multi-night runs.

Again, I just don't see them doing a theater in NYC in August.  They love outside shows.  If they do Williamsburg on a Fri/Sat, I bet it has a good chance to sellout.  Why would they do something else?

-Summerstage has an early curfew and can hold 2-3,000.
-Keyspan Park may work, but that doesn't seem like a venue they'd play (now).

United Palace is an awesome place.  Saw MOF there.  Only bad thing was getting on the A train after the show.  Made every local stop and I needed to go down to Penn Station.  United Palace is up by 175th I believe for those that are unaware.  LOOOOONG Ride.

maybe it was because it was a hometown show... but they blew the roof off the YUM center. I've only been going to see the Jacket for about 16 months, but of my 13 or so shows, YUM is my 4th favorite and there are only 5 that I remember as shinning a little brighter than the other shows Ive been to. again, it might be because the Yum is here at home, and it had been just over 2 years since the last hometown show.

I think there have been venues in all the cities they've played this year that they could've sold out, but they're choosing venues based on more than capacity this tour. in an early 2011 interview they said they hand picked their favorite theaters/venues around the country. i.e. the auditorium theater. they sold out the auditorium theater, but played a larger venue in chicago last year (charter one @ northerly island). They played the Louisville Palace when last year they damn near sold out the Yum Center (i think 22,000 capacity for bball games)

MSG's end-stage capacity is 19,500 and YUM's is 17,500. not a huge difference but 2000 seats can make a difference.
