I left Pink Floyd early because God told me that it was time to leave.  Really -  the person in front of me turned into God (flowing grey hair, full beard and mustache, silkin robe, septer, 12 feet tall), informed that the rain was not going to end, and that if I knew what was good for me, I would leave.  My friend and I listened to God and paid a taxi driver $100 to rescue us from the wrath of God.

I went to a Nirvana show fully intending to leave early because I was there to see the Breeders, the show was in New Orleans, and I was SOOOOO cool like that.  Ended up staying because, well they were fucking great.  Ended up being one of their last shows.

I left a J. Geils band show early.  I was there to see this little up and coming diddy opening act called U2.

Im not a fan of U2 (at all), but would murder to be at a late Nirvana show or any Pink Floyd show. (I'm not a big fan of Nirvana)

EDIT: I'm planning on unleaving Neko Case... maybe arrive a little late, maybe.

Do yourself a favor, catch all of Neko's show.
Never heard anything of her. I'll try to arrive early then, well at least ON TIME.
NEVER miss Neko. Ever. Evereverever miss Neko.
Sorry, but I'll have a hard time accepting advice from Mr-I-Left-A-Foo-Show... I didn't commented on that because I was SHOCKED and didn't want to throw a fan-obsession-fit.
:P
I'll make sure I get to see her ok?

recently completely converted FF fan, I'd go to more shows if they didn't play big shows...i'll never miss a festival set again...incredible. Also, i head that acoustic BIG ME version the other day and it was beautiful (sorry tbd--!)
I love FF but I know what you mean about the big stadium shows.
Saw them play an acoustic show at the Opera House in 2006. Big Me was to say the least, wonderful. My favorites were Ain't It The Life and Still though.
How loud can silence get?

I was in no way, shape, or form impressed by the Foo Fighters at hangout.

I've never walked out of a show early.  The only one I should have was my first real concert.

Aerosmith, Concord, NH 1982 or 1983.  Drunk, stoned assholes couldn't play for shit and were pricks to the crowd.  I stayed though; it was fucking awesome!  Hahaha.

Holy shit!  I just did a search.  It was June of 1984.  I just located and downloaded a taping!  Wonder if it was as bad/good as I remember it...

Aerosmith Concord, NH 1984-06-22

Setlist
1. Back in the Saddle
2. Mama Kin
3. Bone to Bone
4. Big Ten Inch Record
5. Three Mile Smile
6. Reefer Head Woman
7. Lord of the Thighs
8. No More No More
9. Last Child
10. Get the Lead Out
11. Red House
12. Lightning Strikes
13. Same Old Song and Dance
14. Dream On
15. Sweet Emotion
16. Walk This Way
17. Milk Cow Blues
18. Toys in the Attic
19. Train Kept A Rollin'
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I'm pretty sure that was when Perry and Whitford rejoined the band; I bet that did suck

I've heard trail of dead got fat and lazy and their shows blow now.

I saw them in like '05 when they weren't fat.

I left a tragically hip show early once. It was in NYC, everyone was wearing canadian flags, and I went by myself. I was also probably the youngest guy in the audience.

Other than that, Modest Mouse was the only show I can remember intentionally bailing out early on. They just sat on stage, playing only new songs with little enthusiasm, and the crowd reflected that, or perhaps caused it. Lots of kids whose hair was longer in the front than it was in the back. I was all like "you can't get yours if he ain't gettin his? Come on!" and so I left and wandered around Manhattan

Great topic that made me stop and think for a min as I have seen hundreds of shows.

Aerosmith 1987 - went to see Guns and roses open, Aerosmith was cheesy even then so I bailed.  The next year I went to see the Black Crowes open for Guns and Roses and after The Crowes, we bailed a few songs into GnR's set.  Axle had already started to think he invented music and the band sounded terrible.

Metallica in 1994 @ Allentown fairgrounds was so horrible - I was laughing - left early and the And Justice tour I was physically removed for standing next to someone who gave security the "bird"  - drug out by my hoody.  That time I wish I hadn't missed the conclusion.

I probably left some Dead shows early on account of the extra curricular activity but I never remembered the night's events once I woke up 2 days later.
Toad the Wet Sprocket played after Rusted Root in 97 and after Root, the entire Tower Theater emptied!
Last show I left early was Radiohead - the Field Day debacle at Giant's stadium.  They actually were awesome but the female I was with wanted to go back to the hotel and enjoy the ecstasy we hit.  Walked out during encore and could hear "How to disappear completely" on our stroll to the car.

Agreed - great thread that made me stop and think too.

There's only one show I can think of that I left early.   It was guns and roses new years eve 2000/2001 in Vegas.   It was one of the more anticipated shows I've ever been to as the hype level was off the charts.   New Years, Vegas, first live GnR in 8-9 years.   The Venue was House of Blues which is a nice place and pretty small (1800).   Tickets were impossible to find.   This was back in my blackjack days so I was able to get tickets through the casino.

Doors 10 pm, show 11 pm.   Mrs Magh33ta (although just dating back then) spent the day shopping for a suitable outfit - a pair of leather pants (her first and last I believe) and a top that she went bra-less with and ended up being fairly well see-through.   She was semi-horrified  until we got to the show and realized there were about 1000 people dressed more outrageous than her.

So all that build-up because -  the band hit the stage at 3:30 am !!  Mind you this was a standing venue, so we'd been jostling around for 4.5 hours (not to mention waiting in line 2 hours before entering because I wanted to get close - UGG)  We'd assumed the band would be playing at midnight and would do something cool but instead the new year came and went with little fanfare.   Count-down, lights, etc...  Numerous chants of "we want gnr" to "lets go" to "f__k Axl rose" as the crowd got madder.   Finally when they did hit the stage to Welcome to the Jungle, It's So Easy, Mr Brownstone as the first three songs the crowd went nuts and the energy level was just insane.

But, it peaked for us (and lots of the crowd) pretty early.   Many of us were running on vegas-level little sleep, we'd been drinking for 8+ hours, starting at dinner and standing around the HoB, I'd played blackjack for 8 hours that day which is stressful and draining.   Bottom line is that we got to the point where we could not stand or stay awake, which sounds silly to say at a loud rock concert, but at about 5:15 am we bailed and went back to our hotel room.   We had a morning flight back to Boston and think we slept about 90 mins.   We missed a 3 song encore including Paradise City which i heard later was incredible.

Ah, good memories.

Was just thinking the other day about a Nirvana show I went to in 1993ish.  Jawbreaker opened and were easily the better band on the night.  Poor Kurt.

I've walked out of a lot of shows early, but one of the few I regret was Daft Punk.  Stupid ex wanted to see the Bottle Rockets.   :P
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires

Only two that come to mind are Citizen Cope and Ben Harper.  I dig Cope's studio stuff but his live show was just so damn relaxed...all the up-tempo songs I really like were slowed down to the point they were hardly recognizable. And I left during Ben Harpers encore b/c he chose to end his show with an acoustic set which nearly put me to sleep.  But damn is it fun to watch than man play the slide guitar.

I wouldve LOVED to see Jawbreaker but I heard there shows were Dylan-esque. I love Jawbreaker

Widespread Panic Halloween Night UNO Lakefront Arena 1998

Galactic opened up and it was fun but we had not so good seats and it was just me and a friend. I was 18 and there was so much other stuff going on that night so we left and found people and parties and all kind of fun mischief in the Quarter.

Later that night we went to Cafe Brazil to party and Galactic played an Aftershow at like 1 am. Two hours later Widespread Panic came on. This was a small place with like 120 capacity. So we all stayed, partied, and danced till around 6 in the morning.

I still don't really like Widespread Panic that much and I know I'll never pay to see them live again.

I walked out of a Stan Walker concert.... you guys know who that is? Kiwi guy who won Australian Idol? Tickets were $15 and it was in a field opposite the motel I was staying at.  The only reason was because I didn't like his music but the atmosphere was great and everything!

I thought about leaving EITS back in May this year. Take Care could well end up being album of the year for me but they were just too loud & one of the guitars was a mess of unintentional, painful feedback. I know it's rock & roll, I know it's supposed to be loud & my ears are suitably shot from more than 20 years of going to gigs but I don't get why a band would chose volume over sound quality. Maybe it was just a bad night for them?
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Hmmm. last time I saw them volume wasn't an issue. I actually had a hard time hearing them over the incidious chit chat from the people next to me. The threat of a thrown bottle shut them up. I do have a volume issue with Dead Confederate. They are too good to play so loud that they sound so bad. Last time I saw them, it was painfully distored loud.

In other news, KoL left another show early yesterday. No pigeons, just heat.
