Question: Why does JJ signature include a #?

I have wondered why I always see items signed by Jim James followed by #31, #34 or #37.  What is the meaning behind these numbers?  See examples below...  I'm also slightly horrified to see a photo like the last one, where he's signing piles of guitar parts so they can add value to some guitars.  I know this is part of the music biz, but...  Any thoughts?

That makes me feel a little better, but eBay is choking on guitars signed by Yim, for $300+

And what of the numbers?  I'd understand if he numbered each signature, but they're always in the 30s.

I'm pretty sure it's his waistsize.  YY is pretty vain and he likes to keep track of his weight fluctuations.  By signing with it, he keeps himself on his game.

So, nobody knows, eh?  I'm usually pretty quick with the comebacks, but I'm on less than 4 hours of sleep, so I got nuthin.

(Home late after seeing Furthur.  If you're a Deadhead, you'd appreciate this show.  I love that they took like a 30 minute break between sets.  They're getting old.  So am I.  I need to train for April.  Multiple reps of fist pumping, "woooo"s, and head bopping.  Need to work on stamina, too.)

Call me a sucker, but I think Dylan wasn't joking, johnny.  I think it's Jim just not taking himself too seriously; like changing over to Yim.  I could be way off, though.

The bball thing cracks me up - I can definitely see that being the case for Yimbo.  It's also funny b/c 37 is an impossible bball number.

Each digit in a basketball number has to be 5 or below, like 34, 55, 15, and on.  You can have any combo of 1 to 5, just nothing 6 or over.  I know one of the reasons is so that the refs can hand-signal the fouls to the scorer's table, because you can't have a higher number than the amount of fingers on each hand.
