Can't decide if I'm gong to do this or Jazz Fest (Or both.)   I like this dilemma.

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

ugh, my head is spinning with these decisions.  I've already changed my mind twice today.  I've just got too much going on this summer to make this so back to Jazz Fest it is.  For now...

Since forecastle has gotten big, Sunday night has been panic and the lips, I'd wait to see before making any plans to leave early.

I believe the last year they had camping in a park about 3 miles away with shuttles.  Not positive, but pretty sure.

Truth. Heard it was a hassle and to just get a hotel.

I went ahead and booked 4 days at the Brown this morning just because I figured by the time I woke up this evening that place would at least be gone considering the galt house was already booked before anyone even mentioned the jacket really being there. went to the waterfront in 08 and since I can't do the hangout or roo this year due to 2 best friends wedding and not being positive about jazzfest yet puts me in louisville...damn it i love me some louisville....loueyville

The Galt appears to have plenty of rooms...if you want to change, use the link on the Forcastle page.  I guess they blocked out rooms before the festival announcement.

Come join the Galt Party!

mahg33ta

yes, Seth's post made me go check just out of curiousity and there's definitely rooms left

i checked thru the actual galt house site, orbitz, and travelocity and it said they were booked this mornign. i guess forecastle reserved a bunch of rooms. we r switched to the galt house and the brown has been cancelled. sorry for the confusion folks. stay at the galt house though. trust me. best decision ever for the waterfront show..you just follow the water to the tunes

As someone who had never heard of this fest until yesterday, I was wondering if you guys could help me out.

I've been a Roo-er for the last five years, but thinking of changing it up, and this fest certainly looks appealing with its non-camping nature. What's the deal with this fest? I don't see many actual logistical details on the site.

Say I book a room at the Galt -- how long of a walk am I dealing with to get to the venue? Can I go back and forth between the fest grounds and the hotel throughout the day? How many stages are there? Is there a curfew for when bands must stop playing?

Also, this VIP ticket perk for a guaranteed close ticket spot looks pretty appealing. For those that have gone in the past, do you find VIP worth it?

Sorry for all the questions, but hoping some Louisvillians can help me out! Thanks so much in advance.

its a great festival right on the river in downtown.  it has only gotten bigger and better with a huge influx of cash the last three years.  i have heard very good things about the possible line up.  i dont have any details, just that they are taking it up another notch this year.

walk is minimal, maybe a half a mile at most.

there have been pass outs in the past.

i believe there is one big stage, one medium stage and three other small stages, one being electronic.

i think the curfew is 12, but they do have the late night cruises on the ohio.

VIP is probably worth it.  there will be a vip pit in the front or side and there is a vip area with shorter lines to the amenities.

So I'm forming an exploratory committee here.

Let's say you walk in, but then you decide you want to walk out for one reason or another - does the festie sort of merge with the city, or are you committed once you get in.

The reason I ask is that if there is a 2 hour stretch or something where there's nothing catching my eye, I'd like to explore L'ville a bit too, even if it's just wandering around near the event itself.

I'm willing to purchase the first tier of tickets on the MMJ collab alone.

Last year it was no re entry I believe unless you volunteered
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

its in a waterfront park, once you leave that park, it is city.  theres a baseball stadium right out the front door.  museums within 6-8 blocks, hotels, restaurants, bars, and arenas.  its certainly nothing major, but theres a fair bit to look at.

i've always wanted to go to louisville, but i want to see more than just the festival too, ya know?

anyway, i hope you're wrong e_wind, but then again, i hope the schedule allows you to be wrong and let me see the city too.

i just booked 4 nights at the galt to be safe

Question for those who have booked at Galt through the Forecastle site: since it is a reduced rate do you have to pay up front or is it regular hotel reservation where you just hold it with a card but don't actually pay?

that was my concern too. it looks like they just hold your room. I just checked my USAA app and there is no indication of any charges...yet

I just paid off my credit card, so I have the room to carry the balance until then. But I had the same worries because I didn't want to have to do that if I didn't need to.

to wit:
CANCELLATION POLICY Cancellation of a reservation must be received 48 hours in advance of the arrival date or a one night penalty will be charged.

So what are the odds of Wax Fang two years in a row? Because...well if there's one band I want more than anything else to see that isn't MMJ, it's them

They only hold it with a card, and you can cancel up to 48 hours before check in without charge. If you don't cancel by then, you're subject to getting charged for the 1st night.
