Southwest is a little different...the miles = points.  I signed up for that card a few months ago for 60,000 (I think) points (2 free round trips) .  I've used a round trip and a one way so far and still have 15000 or so points left.  I think my one way from EWR bacck to New Orleans over the holidays cost 15000 points.

Anyhow, if you're going to apply do it now.  It takes forever for the points to show up in your account.

+Just to get back to this post, i signed up for the Southwest rapid rewards VISA card and upon first purchase, you get 2 free flights! (no other strings like Nova said above)..

+also, about a month or so ago, i signed up for the DELTA sky miles American Express card and upon spending 500$ in the first 3 months, you get 30,000 miles (about 300$ off a flight) my points showed up after 2 weeks!?

+i use the Expedia Mastercard the rest of the year and it ends up giving me at least 2 free flights a year.

Just wanted to post in case you're wanting to get some deals---didn't spend anymore than i normally would-but moved around the card spending. I plan on cancelilng the Delta American Express after a year (first year the fee is waived but there IS a small yearly fee with that one)..

I was told there is a pretty steep annual fee for that southwest card.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Just read on the bonnaroo boards that there will be much professional filming going on at Forecastle...

I wonder what festivals will be livestreamed this year-  quite a few were last year (mountain jam, bonnaroo, austin city limits come to mind) and I'd have to think that trend will only increase.

Bothersome Questions:

When does the fest usually get rolling on Friday and when does it end on Sunday?
When would I have to leave Louisville to catch a 10 a.m. flight in Nashville?
Is it worth pissing off my brother and flying into Lexington to save $100?
Anybody figured out the re-entry thing yet?

Thank you for your help.

i believe friday starts in the afternoon around 4
sunday will probably end at midnight

nashville is 2.5 hours from louisville driving 78 mph.  not sure about the airport, so i would give yourself at least 3 hours if not more.  they are however an hour behind us, so you win there.

lex over the ville or nashville?  lex is a lot closer than nashville.

the facebook page (updated by founder's girlfriend) said there will be re-entry
out go the lights it begins

Wish the music started earlier than 4 on Friday?

Give Penny and TEO more time to start fires around the hotel pool.

ah! you're right..totally missed that...don't know if it's waived the first year but i'm going to call and whine and try to get it waived..otherwise it's 99$...you're still getting 300$ worth of free airfare for doing nothing, though.

Thanks for the info.  This is killing me.  Decided to put my life on hold for the ATP September Afghan Whigs deal in New Jersey, but I have conviced myself that the Whigs will be at Forecastle - just a tremendous hunch.  My bro lives near Nashville and is tremendously intersted in Forecastle - not so much in New Jersey.

Could fly to Nashville on early Friday, get picked up by my brother, head to Louisville and then head back home Monday morning.  Haven't seen my brother in over 2 years, prices for flights, accomodations, and the fest itself are doable, and a sure-to-be epic MMJ hometown show.  No brainer right?

But I can't do both.  And the Afghan Whigs playing together again... Baby you be sweet...

I'm pretty sure that with the Southwest card you get some number of annual frequent flyer points designed to offset the annual fee cost.  Still better to not have a fee, though.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

it is supposed to be 4-6 weeks from the jacket announcement till the full line up is out, so probably early-mid march.  they are being very tight lipped as far as the rest of the line up.  i have two friends on the advisory committee and they dont know anything... or at least they are not telling me... bastards.

i have been told that it will be big though, real big.

there will be three headliners, one for each night.

I have one request for the Jacket, which I'm sure by posting here will instantly download to each of their brains:

I like electronic music. I do not like dubstep. Dubstep attracts many bad people. Please, for the love of all that is free-wheeling and melodic...no dubstep!

i hope yall know they will not allow canes into the festival grounds.  you will need something else to shake at the stage.

i dont really even know what dubstep is, but if pretty lights and bassnectar are dubstep, im on board.  i hear them both describes as glitch hop, but i dont know what that is either.  its hell getting old and out of touch.

i don't really know what it is, either. i just like it that chode is worked up..all i know is that TEO, Crispy and I are gonna drop some E and grab our raver lunchboxes and hit the dubstep tent at some point..

to add to the drama---chode, perhaps it's not dubstep you're against, maybe it's "BROSTEP", the subgenre.. ;) ;D

'Brostep' and American developmentsIn 2011, Dubstep gained significant traction in the US market by way of a post-dubstep style known as 'brostep' with the American producer Skrillex becoming something of a figurehead for the scene. In September 2011 a Spin Magazine EDM special referred to brostep as a "lurching and aggressive" variant of dubstep that has proven commercially successful in the United States.[108] Unlike traditional dubstep production styles, that emphasize sub-bass content, brostep accentuates the middle register and features "robotic fluctuations and metal-esque aggression." According to Simon Reynolds, as dubstep gained larger audiences and moved from smaller club based venues to larger outdoor events, sub-sonic content was gradually replaced by distorted bass riffs that function roughly in the same register as the electric guitar in heavy metal.[109]

The term brostep has been used by some as a pejorative descriptor for a style of popular Americanised dubstep.[110] Dubstep purists have leveled criticisms at brostep because of its preoccupation with "hard" and aggressive sounding timbres. In the UK brostep has been jokingly called "bruvstep" and "mid-range cack". US producers often drew inspiration from British producers who tended to work less with sub-bass and more with mid-range sounds such as Caspa, Rusko, and Vexd.[111] Rusko commented in an interview on BBC's 1Xtra radio show that "brostep is sort of my fault, but now I've started to hate it in a way...It's like someone screaming in your face for an hour...you don't want that."[112] Commenting on the success of American producers such as Skrillex, Skream has stated: "I think it hurts a lot of people over here because it's a UK sound, but it's been someone with influences outside the original sound that has made it a lot bigger. The bad side of that is that a lot of people will just say 'dubstep equals Skrillex'. But in all honesty it genuinely doesn't bother me. I like the music he makes."[113]

Other North American artists that have come to be associated with the brostep sound are Canadian producers Datsik and Excision. Their production style has been described by Mixmag as "a viciously harsh, yet brilliantly produced sound that appealed more to Marilyn Manson and Nine Inch Nails fans than it did to lovers of UK garage." Other noted producers include 12th Planet and Bassnectar, who are considered by some to be early pioneers of the subgenre
