Don't get me started on this. I've already said my IWSYS piece. Sigh.

Yeah man, I agree completely.

As it was the first night of RR as well...

Just to be clear.  You can only minimize the Audience levels so much as it's part of the mix. Reducing them completely leaves you with only a board mix.  The warmth and bottom end come from the the sound of the room mic's picking up the P.A. and ambiance of the venue.  This is why they are called Bootlegs. You have to consider the length of these sets and the amount of time it takes to process and upload by the next day.

Just saying

Exatly like Mr. Whippy.....The shout out to Tom and his reaction was what came to mind when I saw this topic.

Touch Me Part 2, Easy Morning Rebel, intro to Lowdown,  and a few other intros and trying to figure out what song it was leading to.

The excess crowd noise is bothersome.  Anyone else wish it was minimized?  The chatter distracts and is annoying during quieter parts of songs or entire quieter songs, like Sooner.  I don't mind the guy yelling out for Tyrone.  It's just the din of tons of jumbled voices that you can't understand that irk me.

I feel the same.  I'd prefer SBD recordings or at least a matrix mix of SBD/AUD.  In a venue that size, probably all the instruments are coming through the board, so you'd think it'd sound good.  Or even better, they could do a separate mix for the recording.  I know, I know, picky Jacket heads!

These are Matrix recordings. 4 audience mic's plus SBD.  Six tracks mixed and mastered in post.

I really can't get enough of All Night Long and Carried Away.

It also blows my mind how epic War Begun is compared to TTF version.
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

Toboggans, are you the guy who recorded these? If so, great job!

Not Tobaggans, damn autocorrect! Sorry Toogans.

How about "Condoleeza said she wants rice" during All Night Long (at 3:46)?  Not sure if he always does that but it was great.  Almost as good as bananas, nanas at T5.

if you were there, you understand how close Carl came to not breaking into Steam lead because his board crapped the bed.  Literally a few seconds from plug in to full face melt.  He is a God.

from front row of the Loge, this was a terrifying thing to watch, but the outcome was everything and more than any of us could expect

I wasn't sure if that is what he was singing at first, but then I when I heard it a second time I was cracking up!
Pretty please with peanut butter pudding surprise on top??

Was right there beside ya!  A wee bit distracting but an interesting distraction, he definitely pulled that solo off in the nick of time.  Not sure but I think he pulled the sax out to replace a solo on one song due to the pedal board.

night 1 - Sooner>Thank You Too>Nashville to Kentucky

night 2 - lowdown.

night 3 - Evil uRges thru Run Thru.

My favorite overall moment though was when they went into the Outta My System ext jam and then Octoplasm after Evelyn... At that exact place and time, I was re-assured of how epic of a run it would be and how right this world can be, sometimes.....

I could do without the omnichord on Sooner.  Acousticcitsuoca is the best version.
There's Still Time.........

As much as I loved Red Rocks, I think they might have been better. I'm enjoying these boots way more than Red Rrocks, and I loved those.

It's hard for me to choose between Red Rocks and these as which I like better.  I do notice the quality of the PC recordings are better sounding, I downloaded the ALAC.  The RR I got last year were mp3s.  Is that the difference, do I need to upgrade?

In addition to what others have mentioned, for me a great moment was Carried Away.  I had not heard that song before.

MrWhippy

Thanks, TOOGs, for the insight on the audience presence on the recordings, and thanks for all the work you guys did to get the recordings out to us.

Now that you've explained it, makes sense why the audience is as present as it is.  Now, our work is to just get our fellow audience members to shut the F up while the band is playing.  Tasers might help.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

FYI-  The Red Rocks 2012 show's have been re-posted at Nuggs.net.
These are basically the same board mixes plus audience mic's remixed, edited and remastered.  I think these versions are superior to the original.

RR is such an amazing place. At times the warm summer wind felt like it was pulling the music along. And maybe that's just it, RR is about the natural environment.

PC was about the connection between us and the band at a temple to rock and roll.

That's exactly it, Val. Exactly.

TOOGANS, thanks for that info!
