i'm a little surprised to not see much mention of possibly the BEST incarnation of Dondante these ears have ever heard.  those horns!  maybe it is covered in some of the other threads -- too many to keep track...but once it ended the first time i listened to it, i hit repeat.  i spent almost an hour with ol' Don.

i also played this show last week while in Park City with some buds.  and as the magic often lines up while playing MMJ, this Dondante came on and perfectly filled the entire trip from Snowbird down to our SLC hotel.  several goose bump moments as we descended the road and a layer of clouds covered Salt Lake in the distance.  silence from my friends thru the entire jam, but once we got out of the car, both (MMJ newbs) asked "What was that song???"

I'm sayin e-stone! I was in fuckin heaven during that! And when we saw the horns... forget about it. Also, the stars projected on the walls? Whooooo. I'm spent just thinking about it
25 min Dondante's (w horns) For Life!!
Taste the warpaint on my tongue as it's dripping with my sweat

Does anyone have a link for the taper recordings from Port Chester? Also, have the official bootlegs been fixed yet? I really like the setlist from night one and would love to have it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

if you were there, you understand how close Carl came to not breaking into Steam lead because his board crapped the bed.  Literally a few seconds from plug in to full face melt.  He is a God.

from front row of the Loge, this was a terrifying thing to watch, but the outcome was everything and more than any of us could expect

Following up on this - you can actually hear them plugging him in at approx. 2:20 of steam
What's in here won't disappear

Were there tapers at Port Chester?  I wasn't aware of any tapings other than the official bootlegs.  Also, what "fix" was needed?  I have all three (as mp3) and they seem fine.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

TOOGANS

The 24bit files of each night had to be re-rendered.

Oh sorry, I thought I seen somewhere it was mentioned that there was also a taper recording, but I may have misinterpreted. The fix was in reference to the problems with the downloads being super slow, having multiple copies of each song (I think), and something about remastering.

was it just me or did the trumpet player on the far left from Antibalas have problems with his horn the whole track?

they did horns at JazzFest last year and that probably rates as my personal favorite Dondante.
Don't you ever turn it off

+ 2 on the "Love the excited guy in the crowd just as Off the Record is starting on night one -- "fuckin' eh! Not stoppin', not stoppin'!" "

Also, to echo most, these boots sound so f'ing good.  It just makes me angry though that I wasn't there!!  IMO, MMJ is in their prime right now!

GO4IT

Just listened to "Carried Away" from the All Birds Must Sing Album and then the PC version.

Both are great but the PC version is a beast off the charts.  It alone was worth the price of admission that night.

Fuckin A Right! I've seen Carried Away Six times live (two of them were Carl solo with Trampled by Turtles) and the PC Carried Away was UNFUCKINBELIEVABLE!!! Carl started slowing it down and Jim came over and was stamping on his foot, and they were facing each other just CRUSHING that song (always a personal favorite). I get all amped up when you can tell Carl's gonna play it. He starts stepping up as Jim noticeably backs up a bit. It's a Carl song that has become a MMJ song, and I'm so happy thats happened.

I also echo the sentiment that night 2 PC was one of the best Dondontes I've seen as well. If Dondontes not at least 18-20 min long, it seems like they're cutting it short. I think it was 24min at PC.

So to make a long rant longer. Those were too definite highlights of night two.

P.S. I'd suffer through another Trampled by Turtles show again just to get 45 min of Carl, but I wouldn't recommend it. I'd like to see more solo Carl. If you dont own All Birds Say, I cant recommend it enough. It's just a beautiful, folky, happy, sad, Beatle'y, Pet Sound'y, GREAT album.
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do, sometimes won't know how to take him

I forgot that was the song Jim was messing up Carl's white shoes. Thanks for reminding me. I loved reading what you just wrote, tippitoes. It took me back to that feeling that washed over me during that song that night. I wish I could feel like that more often...

I still think that LAY LOW-ANYTIME-WAR BEGUN-I WILL SING YOU SONGS might be the best 4 song run ever.  The War Begun was breathtaking.

I've got the signed version of "All Birds Say" - ordered it as soon as I could and it's a wonderful album.

If you want to relive Port Chester's Carried Away here's my video.  I'm not sure there's another posted.  You just need to get by my freaking out when I realized what was about to come :cheesy:
