having a chance to relive Rocket Man without the screaming (can't call it singing) of the gal right behind me.
Don't you ever turn it off

I could do without the omnichord on Sooner.  Acousticcitsuoca is the best version.

We got an omnichord-less version for the soundcheck in Columbus, and I have to agree, it's better that way, but a great song regardless.
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

Yeah I'm Japanese and the omnichord is our greatest invention besides talking air conditioners and I'm quite content without it on any song aside from TMIGS II

I thought your greatest invention was vending machines containing things that are not food. Huh.

That's true.  I remember in 6th grade my grandfather gave me 5000 yen and sent me to the corner vending machines to pick him up a liter can of Kirin beer, a package of pantyhose, and something called electric mascara

Electric mascara sounds painful.

i'm a little surprised to not see much mention of possibly the BEST incarnation of Dondante these ears have ever heard.  those horns!  maybe it is covered in some of the other threads -- too many to keep track...but once it ended the first time i listened to it, i hit repeat.  i spent almost an hour with ol' Don.

i also played this show last week while in Park City with some buds.  and as the magic often lines up while playing MMJ, this Dondante came on and perfectly filled the entire trip from Snowbird down to our SLC hotel.  several goose bump moments as we descended the road and a layer of clouds covered Salt Lake in the distance.  silence from my friends thru the entire jam, but once we got out of the car, both (MMJ newbs) asked "What was that song???"

In the "not so great" moments, anyone think Jimmy sounds strange at the beginning of the Bear?   When I first heard it I said what the heck is that?   Like he's doing some lounge singer singing outside his range impersonation?

I'm here Fully!  I couldn't tell you if I was screaming on not - during shows like that I spiritually black out.  But maybe those recording devices were able to pick up the sounds my body was making in reaction to the experience that just couldn't be heard by the mortal ear.  Or something like that.  I'll have another listen.

I really like the lyric change in Sooner:

For all your days I wish you protection
From all the evil in the world

Heartfelt and powerful

So late in the game & finally listening to the Capital shows. I have to say I think I did ask almost every night "What did they play" I have never had the experience I did at this run where I was somewhere else spiritually listening to the show. I really love that I get to take it all in again. I was on another planet and after re-listening to the shows I know why. Everything felt different. Especially after the 3 night run at the Wiltern, which was amazing in it's own way this took me to another place. Simply beautiful, reminding me of the Dead twisting and turning everything you think you know into something new and unreal!

Absolutely, and being able to relive these shows, where the "blackout" was so prevalent afterward, is wonderful! When the shows are happening, I am simultaneously living right there in the present and also sort of an out-of-body experience, but I often wonder what it was I just saw right after it happens, wanting to remember every single moment and unable to do so.

um I don't know if this has been said but it's not Octoplasm after Evelyn. I recently listened to Octoplasm and it sounds pretty different to me.

I have to agree.  Its funny how the media ran with this ("My Morning Jacket Debuts Live Instrumental!"), but while there are some similar elements, I never thought the band consciously thought they were playing that song.  I didn't want to bum anyone out, there was so much excitement.  And, honestly, who give a f*ck what you call it?  It was awesome!
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

Good point, and probably why it's called "Funky Improv Jam" in the downloadable recording.

there's a funny part from PC1 and its as they start Off The Record and you can clearly hear this guy ecstatically shout "fucking A, they're not stopping, they're not stopping".  Made me laugh.

I may be partially responsible for that seeing as my YouTube video has it called octoplasm. Will be changed lol
