Just saw that none other than Bob Weir is playing four dates!!!!   He'll be doing an acoustic set and based on his recent tour it will primarily be songs from the dead (QOTSA ref intended)

Here are the dates Bob Weir will be on:

June 26th @ Cruzan Amphitheatre – West Palm Beach, FL
June 27th @ Live Nation Amphitheatre – Tampa, FL
June 29th @ Aaron's Amphitheatre – Atlanta, GA
June 30th @ The Lawn at Riverfront Park – Nashville, TN.

This may be the best one day fest I've ever attended.  Seen MMJ and Wilco many time each.  Caught Bob Dylan twice and have seen Furthur 3 times and the Grateful Dead once.

Most excellent show.

PS.  I think the Americanarama moniker is appropriate.  Its even fun to say!  Wilco and MMJ represent the best of american rock music right now and Bob Dylan and Bob Weir were there from the beginning.

SOOOOO EXCITED!!!!! (plus I got Atlanta pit tix too, thanks RC)

Don't forget to capitalize that last A!  I don't know why but it's bothering me a little that Stereogum called this tour "Dad Rock".
I saw "Uncle Rock" somewhere too, that's a new one. I don't get it either, Jacket is nowhere near "Dad Rock" (whatever that is anyway). I see that label get placed on Wilco a lot though, seemed to start with the release of SBS. Whatever, I'm not a dad and I fucking love Wilco.

I'm not a dad either.

Well I am, and like that Dad's are getting to represent, and getting some respect!   All those years of getting shafted with Father's Day school projects has finally paid off.

And I'm most happy for you! I just don't like that label.

Considering MMJ will melt faces early on, Wilco will carry the energy with a rocking set of their own, and then Dylan will get on stage to sing his little folk diddies I think they shouldve called this the No Country For Old Men Tour

Burn.

Also, for everyone who thinks that there will be collaborations between Dylan and Jim, I can't imagine he would allow Jim to blow him off the stage with his voice. There's no contest on who's the better singer.

I hated to do this but I passed on this show  :embarrassed:

Not a fan of Camden, NJ (Parking and the city, venue is nice though).  Also not a big Dylan fan.  Wilco is ok, but not enough to convince me to go.

Anybody want to explain Wilco to me?  Tried listening through a playlist of their stuff on youtube and not impressed at all.  I know a lot of people are fans of both bands and that some people compare MMJ and wilco when talking about bands, but I don't see it, at all.  Much more toned down without any real hard rocking songs or at least the ones on the playlist of like 90 songs or so on in the background while doing some other things.  What would be the essential songs in the catalog to check out to maybe change my mind.  :undecided:

If you're looking for the heavy stuff like Run Thru, or One Big Holiday, Wilco isn't really that type of band.  They are compared to MMJ because they started from the alternative country scene and play super awesome extended live shows.  They took me a few listens, before I got them, but don't give up! They're really awesome, and I couldn't be more excited to see them on the bill.

To me, these are some of Wilco's best:

WILCO - AT LEAST THAT'S WHAT YOU SAID - BARCELONA 2012

06 Wilco - Via Chicago - Primavera Sound 2010

Wilco - One Sunday Morning (Tilburg 14-11-2011)

I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

A couple more beauts:

The solo on this is worth checking out:
Wilco - Impossible Germany (Primavera Sound 2012)

This one got me into them initially:
Wilco - Jesus, Etc. (Primavera Sound 2012)

First off, don't make up your mind based off one listen. Give them a chance, if you're anything like me you need to listen more than once to get a feel for the music.

Second, I would stay away from playlists and listen to full albums. Start with anything after A.M. but before Sky Blue Sky. Not saying those other albums are bad, not by any means, but the sandwich that exists between them is just incredible.

Check out their official live album, Kicking Television, it has the current lineup shortly after they got together. Also, definitely check out their live DVD, Ashes of American Flags.

Sorry I didn't recommend any actual songs, but I'm terrible at that stuff. What I think someone might like is usually wrong. Maybe someone else can help you with that...okay, I lied, check out A Shot in the Arm for a good, rocking song. Live, though, with the current lineup.

A lot of people seem to think Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is Wilco's best, or perhaps, the best place to start.  And to extent, they may be right, but A Ghost is Born, or Summerteeth seem to be my two favorite albums.  Also, their newest album (The Whole Love) is excellent from start to finish.  Especially Art of Almost, Dawned on Me, and One Sunday Morning (which really is one of my favorite from their catalogue).

But definitely watch Via Chicago, At Least That's What You Said, and Impossible Germany.  If those three songs don't catch your attention, I don't know what will.

YHF is everything an album should be. Definitely Wilco's "best". However, personally Summerteeth and Being There do it for me more. The three mentioned so far + AGIB are all 4 perfect records, IMO. Also, IMO, Wilco doesn't have a bad record. I can't say that there are too many bands in existence that had a 20 year career (and still going strong) with 8 records and not one of them blew. Wilco (The Album) is their worst, but still good. I would say that Wilco has a stronger catalogue than MMJ. Though ISM may be better than YHF, Wilco's catalogue from start to finish is just good. I know this isn't exactly the discussion, but Circuital is a record that I'll say I don't like, and Wilco doesn't have one of those. The reason MMJ remains my favorite band is because of the live show, and Wilco's is pretty good, too.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Oh yeah, and Impossible Germany is one of the best live songs ever.

I actually think MMJ has the overall stronger catalogue, but I might be biased.  I agree with Impossible Germany though, that song is the shit!

I actually enjoy Circuital, just not as much as the rest of MMJ's catalogue.  But that does not mean it is bad by any stretch of the imagination.  Wonderful, Victory Dance, and Slow Slow Tune are always welcome on my MMJ sets.

After watching non-stop Wilco live videos tonight, I feel sad that I won't be able to watch a proper set from them.  As much as I will enjoy this concert, I can't help but feel like I will be frustrated and on edge about the time restraint for each band's set.  I still don't understand why they had to add a fourth band to an already busy schedule.  Oh well, I'll just keep telling myself that I get to see MMJ and WILCO in one SINGLE night.  Dylan will be an added bonus for me.

Listen to Kicking Television. It is live. They have some pretty great songs that are like country Radiohead. Spiders is a good one. I have listened to them since the 90's and still sometimes wonder what all the fuss is, other times I really like them. They will NOT disappoint you in concert.

danimal

If you're looking for rocking, see At Least That's What You Said, Hell Is Chrome, Spiders (Kidsmoke), Muzzle Of Bees - (funny that I just rattled off the first 4 tracks from A Ghost Is Born, can you tell I like that album?)- there are a lot of great rocking songs on that album actually but I would say the above four are rocking and epic on par with what MMJ is up to.  Also check out Art Of Almost off of the latest release and You Are My Face/Side With The Seeds/Impossible Germany off of Sky Blue Sky for some more experimental-ish rocking fun.

With Wilco, I would agree with the commentor above who said listen to the albums and not a playlist.  Do this.

I've seen Wilco play live a lot.  They are my favorite comtemporary band followed closely by MMJ.  I have seen them play 2 hour and 40 minute plus shows and I most recently saw them at Snow Daze in Vail where they only played for 1 hour and 45 minutes.  The shorter show did not dissapoint and actually might be my favorite time seeing them out of the 10 or so shows I've been to.  If their albums aren't jiving with you, at least give their live show a chance.

Why all the Sky Blue Sky hate? That was the first album with Nels on lead guitar and has Impossible Germany, Hate It Here, You Are My Face, and Side With the Seeds. I think it is a great album, but it often gets dissed on fan boards. I agree that Yankee Hotel Foxtrot may be their best album, but I don't recommend it as a starting point. I tried to start "learning" Wilco with that album but it never grabbed me at first. After a few months I tried again with Summerteeth and was hooked. My love for YHF came later after rewiring my synapses with the rest of their catalog.

I agree that they are a different kind of band than MMJ live. They rock, but they never go dark and ominous like MMJ can. Nels Cline is a brilliant guitar player and Glenn Kotchke is an outstanding drummer. Their 3+ hour "Evening with Wilco" Atlanta show in 2010 is one of my concert-going highlights of my life.

There is no way I could pass on this show. To see, literally, 3 of my top 10 all time performers in one evening is just too compelling. If any collaboration occur amongst the performers it will be unforgettable.

I was just going to 2nd or 3rd listening to Kicking Television!

I Love Wilco. Yankee Hotel Foxtrot is my favorite and most played album of theirs. And I like Sky Blue Sky a lot. But LIVE is where it's at! Look into those recent "Roadcase" soundboards. I think you'll get a much better feel of what to expect that way. They are EXCELLENT live and I will see them any and every chance I get. Getting to see them and MMJ on the same night is pure joy for me! :)

I agree wholeheartedly with all of this, except for saying "they never go dark and ominous"—Radio Cure played live is pretty fucking dark and ominous, and so is At Least That's What You Said, I think. And I love hearing them!

I will be going to the show in Denver (even though the venue SUCKS), and hoping Bob closes so I can leave.

Good points Crispy. Haven't heard Radio Cure live yet but wll seek it out. And yes, ALTWYS  is pretty dark. Not as epic as Run Thru or Dondante, but dark and ominous yes.

I'm in the same boat on venue here in Atlanta. Lakewood is the worst. Terrible location and difficult to get there. At least it is on a weekend and should help with traffic. Don't skip out on Dylan though if you can help it, I've heard his last tour was pretty great. His voice is struggling (and I am one of those that actually like his voice), but he has a super tight band and a really deep catalog. I also like the rootsy direction he has gone in on the last few records.

Not sure if anyone mentioned this already but the documentary about the recording of YHF is a great starting point for understanding Wilco .
I Am Trying to Break Your Heart .
They recorded one of the greatest albums ever, probably changed forever the relationship between bands and labels ,added new ( great ) drummer and dealt with Jay Bennet trying to wrestle control of the band , all right in front of a camera !

I down loaded YHF for free and did not get it right away . After listening to Being There and Summerteeth 100's of times it was completely different .

David Fricke ( Who was at T5 and totally digging it ) also provides some commentary in the film .
