The Way That He Sings

It was a great show - my pleasure, and thank you for the kind comments.

I attended and photographed the MMJ shows in 2012 in KC, Lincoln and Minneapolis.   This JJ show was no letdown at all.   Amazing stuff.

Hey,  I may have met you at the Somerset show.  Did you give Jim a beautiful Photograph book at that show ?

I really love the photographs. I disagree with your assessment about the middle portion of the show, but I saw the one in Louisville so perhaps you saw something different than I did. But seriously, All is Forgiven one of the highlights of the show, particularly the jam at the end. Thanks for sharing with us!

Awesome photos.  Thanks for sharing.  I still have to download the photos I took Saturday in Chicago.

Yes, that was me
Nice to hear from you again.   By the way, I never did hear from Jim or anyone about the book I gave him.   Bummed!
I wish I had a way of reaching out to him to see if he got it and liked it (and still has it).

Well that kind of blows he didn't acknowledge it.  We know for a fact he got it, right ?  Eric handed it to him when they walked off stage correct ?  I know you waited around to make sure.  You gonna make it to the Chicago show in July ?

Beautiful photos and a nicely written review!  Makes me wish I wasn't  missing this tour.

I'm wondering if you'd expand a little on the middle section that you didn't like as much.  I'm confused because rock-star posing all over the stage doesn't seem introverted to me.  Were those songs in the middle section mellow and introverted or rocking out and extroverted?  Was it the length of the songs that you didn't like or something else?  What does the hairball version of Jim James mean?  I'm not challenging ya, just sincerely curious as to what you meant.

As for extended live versions of songs, I like it when a band stretches out their songs by (and MMJ does it as good as anybody playing live these days, IMO) collectively jamming up to a crescendo.  I get bored when one dude solos while the rest of the band lays back.  Which was the case at the show you saw?

Regardless, it sounds like this is a great show, probably even for those, like me, who aren't that excited about the studio album.

I appreciate the kind comments from you and the others!   Sincerely!

The middle section comes down to personal preference quite frankly - and I can appreciate fully those who enjoy the extended jams building up to the crescendo type of tunes.   For myself - at this show - I felt like the momentum dipped at this stage -- the crowd moved less and just stared more - and the songs were extended perhaps just a little more than need be.   Keep in mind this was all fabulous.     We're comparing chocolate and fudge here - both equally great.   I like JJ's ability to knock out the perfect 4-minute tune more than I like his 10-minute jams.   The hairball comment just means the 10 minute jams brought out James' wonderful ability to truly nail all the rock poses - messy hair and all as he thrashes his head up and down.  Great stuff for a photographer - LOL.      It was very contrasting in style to the opening 30 minutes.  Now, many of you prefer the 10 minute jams over the 4 minute songs and that's very cool.   No one does 10 minutes better than MMJ right now!   My preference though probably comes from my background listening to the Beatles so much growing up - where the 3 minute and 4 minute pop tunes ruled.

It's all good - thanks again for reading and I do sincerely appreciate the kind comments about the photos and the review.   Please check out the site often and Like us on Facebook and Twitter!  (below)
