The first song I ever listened to was Wordless Chorus, but the one that made me fall in love with the band was Golden. I still remember driving in the car when that played for the first time.
some get stoned, some get strange, sooner or later it all gets real.

not sure which songs, but seeing them open for Pearl Jam in Albany, Hartford and Boston did it for me.

me too.   I had listened to them, but it was seeing the live show (no surprise to anyone here) opening for Pearl Jam in Boston that hooked me.   That prompted me to see them again as headliner later that year and that show blew me away.

Lay low. I really sat up and listened.
How loud can silence get?

I've never been a guy with multiple favourite bands. I usually pick one of two and run with them for years. Started with MCR as a preteen, then I discovered both Pearl Jam and REM in high school. Aside from them and the White Stripes, I really didn't listen to anyone else. So, I felt like hearing new music. I looked up the highest rated albums of 2011 and saw that the Black Keys "Brothers" and My Morning Jacket's "Circuital" were critically acclaimed. I gave Brothers a majority of the listening at first, and took them in with more open arms. My Morning Jacket took a while to stick. I wasn't familiar with a sound like theres, and it was intimidating to listen to stuff I really didn't understand. But, when I heard Wonderful (The Way I Feel) on shuffle, it was a very pleasant surprise. Then, I'm walking home late at night and put on Slow Slow Tune and felt the most mellow I ever have. Once I started to get the idea, I really gave the album a listen and fell in love.

I bought all of their other albums on the same day months after buying Circuital (it took me too long).

My favourite album now is It Still Moves, and I've seen them live twice. Incredible.

My first experience with MMJ was Z.  I'd heard about the band for a while and when I found out they were opening for PJ I picked up the CD.  Laylow did it for me (though the whole album is great).

I discovered MMJ by accident, watching SNL on May 5, 2008.  But it was Lay Low that hit me hardest at first. That dual guitar attack, with a nod (unintentional?) to ABB, pulled me in. My first show, it was Lay Low in Boston that I remember most, the abandon with which I rocked the fuck OUT!  It unlocked a passion I've carried to every show, every time. The catalyst. The spark. Good fucking song!

Ah...I remember it well.  I was hanging out with my brother from another mother one fall Saturday morning 2007.  After a wake and bake, he showed me a cd and said "this is my new favorite band and my new favorite song" - GOLDEN  I was intrigued by it and loved it right away.  I play guitar and loved the tuning of the song.  Soon after, I bought It still moves and I've had to replace that cd at least 5 times over the past 6 1/2 years.

I've always thought of myself as a true music lover.  But MMJ's music is on a whole different level and their music takes their fans to that level with them.

Everything about Okonokos intrigued me, but it was I Think I'm Going To Hell that first pierced into my skull and rearranged everything inside.

Engine of Dondante

I had always heard of MMJ since At Dawn and was intrigued by them. However, I never pulked the trigger until Z came out. That got such overwhelmingly good reviews that I finally had to check them out.

It was April of 2006. I remember running into a good high school friend I hadnt seen in awhile at Borders when they were still open. I went there to buy Z and ran into him in the music section. I bought the album and since he got dropped off there due to his car being in the shop, I gave him a ride home. Well, it turns out he had some herb on him. So we lit up and drove around and listened to the gloriousness of Z. Just amazing! It Beats 4 U and Off the Record jumped out to us in particular. However, it wasn't until I dropped my buddy off that I truly zoned in and appreciated the genius of this album and band. I had bought some herb off of my friend and commenced smoking another couple bowls and listening to the rest of Z. Now in the proper chemical state, I just became overwhelmed by sheer pleasure at discovering this unbelievable music for the first time. It was Lay Low and the amazing super
jam at the end of it that blew my mind. Windows rolled down, grooving on the herb with the music caressing my ears and the cool night air soothing my body. I fell in love with them that very night and immediately bought their entire catalogue of material and have seen them live 7 times. A truly remarkable band that deserves all the love and success they get.

Either Off The Record or Gideon (heard it on wxpn) when "Z" came out

An old roommate told me about MMJ for nearly two years and I refused to listen because I thought the band's name was stupid! One night when I got home from work--I was working 2nd shift, 3-11pm--he was playing Gideon and it blew me away.  I asked him who sang the song and he laughed and said "the band I've been trying to get you to listen to for two years".  That was in 2009.  MMJ is now my favorite band!

Surfing channels one night...passed by Austin City Limits. Wait. What was that? Went back! It was Jim's angelic voice singing "Touch Me-part two." Lucky for me, the show repeated 3 more times, so I got to see MMJ perform Evil Urges. Imagine how my mind was blown when I bought their other albums....one each month. I have listened to them exclusively on my car stereo since then. They brought the music back into my heart. What a great band! The happiest day of my life was when I got to see them at the Edgefield in Oregon in 2011. What a great venue; couldn't have been better.
Almost like being in love....

Jims version of "I am going to Acapulco" in "I´m not there", never heard of him or MMJ before. Then I read an article in the German issue of Rolling Stone about Evil Urges. MMJ were refered to as the successors of Grateful Dead and The Band. Two of my favorite bands ever, blindly ordered Evil Urges was not that impressed, checked Amazon reviews on their other albums and ordered Okonokos.......hooked ever since

Smart move.  I discovered MMJ a month before EU, but absorbed their back catalog such that EU was less a disappointment, as it was a small part of a greater discovery...
