Not meaning to be off topic, but this interview talks about how MMJ gave Dr. Dog their start.  I respect Scott even more after this.  I agree, MMJ is the greatest live band on the scene!

In the mean time, those dates are black out dates at the resort....soooooo......

maybe I'm missing it, but the dates don't appear to be blackout dates at the resort now.  Seems like you can freely book rooms during those dates.

Just checked HR Punta Cana (location of Panic en la Playa), and it is blocked out Jan 18-27!  The mystery continues...

While I loved HR Riviera Maya, I'd really like it to be somewhere different for OBH2.

I was bumming out for a second until I read your post Jenfarr.  Thanks for posting that info.

I don't care where they have OBH2.  I just want them to have it!  And as much as I loved the Riviera Maya, going to the DR, a place I've never been that hopefully has beach access right there at the resort, would be a super awesome bonus.

A little info for the forum. I've been traveling to the Mayan riviera for quite a few years. Some of the reasons are, ease of travel, affordability of travel, and it's not too far of a trip from anywhere in the upper 48. Basically what I'm trying to say is most major American cities have nonstop, affordable flights right into Cancun. Tack on a 30 min taxi/bus ride and you're OBH'n! Just The OBH cost is hard enough for many fans. If you put it even farther away, the travel cost might make it even harder for A LOT of fans to enjoy such a special thing. Plus OBH'1 didn't sell out. I don't think making it harder, farther, and more exspensive to get there is gonna help. Just one guys opinion.
Them that don't know him won't like him and them that do, sometimes won't know how to take him

Am I the only one who wouldn't mind if they kept it in the states? Like at a resort with a stage in a forest or some cool shit like that. I get the appeal to go on vacation in Mexico to see MMJ, but I won't be able to afford that for a few.

I hear that.  There's a nice park behind my house.  Hell, they should take a page from Wilco's book.  Solid Sound was a great fest with Wilco headlining two nights.  An all-inclusive package is pretty sweet, though, and not something you'd necessarily find in the US, unless... Vegas? Orlando? Colorado? (a green tour w/Red Rocks shows each night)  Hmmmmm.
The fact that my heart's beating is all the proof you need.

I'm hionestly getting so  with this wait.. seems like every other band is releasing albums right about now or soon!

APR

Good points tippitoes.... I didn't look into flight costs to the DR and forgot how much farther it is from the West coast compared to Cancun.  Maybe the DR resort is smaller, and they feel like they can sell it out?  Who knows.

The waiting drove me mad.

Please Dominican !!!! I soooo wanna be listening to to the band on the beach with my toes in the sand and then go gamble (among other things) all night.....

I'm in if it's Mexico but not if it's DR. Looking at flights, lay overs and connections it 24rs for us to Cancun or 40 to DR and 40 is not an option. Fingers crossed...
At my house, we call them uh-ohs.

The resort in the DR is definitely not smaller. It's bigger. And if you were unlucky to be in buidling 7 or 8 then you're really far from everything and have the option to get golf cart rides across the resort (which isn't necessarily convenient). We were there for Panic and my friends in those buildings packed a bag every time they left their room because they had no idea how long it would be before they made it all the way back to that side of the resort.

And as far as the gambling in the casino there; meh! Wasn't that impressive.

And someone mentioned the traveling to the DR; BIG FREAKIN' pain in the ass. Nothing is direct and the layover option sucked. After much shopping we ended up having to spend the night in Wash DC for our layover. Having that kind of layover really impacts your allotted vacation time. Plus each of the plane the tickets were $300 more than our tickets to fly to Cancun.

mahg33ta

we all have different opinions on this - my $0.02 is that I'd much prefer it to be a different location.   Even if that resort wasn't a bad experience for me, I'd more enjoy going somewhere else.   Life's too short to go to the same place twice, if I'm spending that kind of money and time off.

Well, it's not like I'm going to skip OBH2 if it's not in Mexico

walterfredo

I was looking at flights from Cali to DR yesterday and they didn't seem that bad, around $450ish.  We'd still try to make it happen, but sure would be nice to use my points and fly free to Cancun.

although the stage in DR is directly ON the beach...

Since I didn't go to OBH 1, I will root for the cheapest, most convenient option.  I want my time and money to go as far as it can.  And I'm really only in this for MMJ and some quality time away from the kids with my beloved.  We would be happy in a Motel 6 in Des Moines, as far as that is concerned.  All the rest is gravy.

Methinks if they are actually sticking to that June 11th presale date, they oughta announce this soon. Soon as in today. Then again, maybe that poster truly was a mockup and the date was just a placeholder. They announced OBH on June 11th last year and had a presale one week later.

I'd enjoy a Midwest festival that I could actually justify going to.

The problem with having OBH in the states is that you lose the exclusivity of the event.  If it was in the states, everyone and their mother could go, and that's certainly not a good thing.

One thing I absolutely loved about OBH was how over-the-top friendly everyone was towards one another.  All that beer and all that booze for a week straight and not once did I see an altercation, fight or scuffle.  It was simply amazing that something like that could happen, and I don't think that it ever could at an event hosted in the states.

Keeping it somewhat expensive weens out the lowlifes that otherwise come to the event and ruin the experience for everyone else.

But anyway... I'm antsy for an announcement.  Let's do this.

I have to 100% agree. And I'm really sorry for those in the forum that struggle affording it. I'm VERY lucky that all this stuff is happening now that I'm "grown up" and my wife and I have found small successes. If this all happened happened in my 20s there is no way I could be lucky to participate. And in conseration of the states, why can't we have similiar all-inclusive resorts on the beaches of the US?

I'd imagine our ridiculous booze laws don't allow for any sort of 'all you drink' all inclusive setups.
