Ah...our Jacket...never boring!!!!

Ha, seriously. I don't get this really serious hate BOH gets. I mean they're no means my favorite band. however, when I saw them open for Jacket I thought they were a great band. Their energy is lower than MMJ, but how many other bands can bring what the Jacket does. Still they make some good music.

I like them and am really excited to see both sets of theirs. Their Ryman Acoustic show is awesome. Clearly, Jim and the boys see something in them or they wouldn't have toured with them and brought them here. I have a slight suspicion all the people who hate will enjoy the set. I mean, you're on island time, BOH is perfect for relaxation music.
for sure. i wouldn't be surprised if they don't open for mmi on the supporting tour this year.

Huh? The "for sure" then double negative has me confused.

Either way I'll throw my hat in the group that's been there, done that, and don't want to do it again as far as BOH opening for Jacket on tour this year.
"Where's Jim going?"

Haha, re-reading that is confusing
I would like to see them tour together is what I meant.
I knew that BoH opened for them a few years back, but I think that it would be a great tour, with a possible lineup that included a newer band to open.
The time is near, to come forward with whatever killed your spark.

Didn't realize there are so many BOH haters out there! I've seen them quite a bit over the years and they really sound better in a smaller indoor venue. I'll also admit that the last 2 albums aren't nearly as strong as the first 2 stellar albums.  I've talked to Ben and Tyler Ramsey a few times after smaller club shows and they are really down to earth and approachable. I think people will be surprised by their acoustic set on the last day of OBH.

I saw their acoustic set in Chicago a few months back.  It was great!
If I can fall asleep at the new pornographers show but stay awake for BoH, think that says something.  lots of peeps think they are snoozy, but listen to their harmonies and acoustic music and I think you'll find they pretty good.

Add me to the group who doesn't get all the hate for this band.  Obviously, MMJ doesn't share in the feelings of the haters or they wouldn't continue to invite them on their tours or to join them in Mexico.  I guess Neil has no musical sense either since he's on record of liking them as well.

I actually saw them live before I saw my first MMJ show. It was back in 2006 and they were touring with Built To Spill. I was hooked and have seenthem several times at smaller venues since.  And when they toured with MMJ, I was very happy to have the opportunity to see two of my favorite bands in one show.  I will admit, their last two albums haven't lived up to their first two, but I'm hopeful they will bring it strong on their next release.

I will say, I saw them open for MMJ 3 different dates and 2 of the 3 venues were very sparse crowds so that might have something to do with the apparent lack of energy.  But, in Columbus, the venue was PACKED and you could really sense that Ben and the boys were very appreciative and there was definitely a more energized vibe as they were feeding off the crowd and were very appreciative of the support as well.

I think its kind of refreshing that BOH isn't trying to be MMJ light.  They clearly don't rock as hard as MMJ so why try to be them.  While I haven't loved the last two albums I think the band is really carving out their own niche.  I can only commend that.

If you go in to seeing them thinking its basically MMJ that doesn't rock hard you're doing it all wrong.  The harmonies are where its at really.

also,  Dawes is kind of "Band of Horses light"
I'd be much less excited to see them

Dawes >>>>>>>>> BOH

I've tried a lot with BOH in the past and more recently over the last few months in prep for OBH and I just can't get into them. I don't hat ethem by any stretch but they's something about them that just doesn't agree with my ears. I'll give their live show a shot though for sure.

Every other act on the bill though.... I'm very excited for.

Band of Horses was a nightmare at Forecastle. My group was up close waiting for Jack White, and BOH went on before them. That was the longest 1.5 hours of my life. It's okay, Jack White made up for it!
I wonder why we listen to poets when nobody gives a fuck

For the '12 red rocks shows, I made it a point to come later to the second night so I didn't have to suffer through another band of horses set.  :)  I will do the best I can to enjoy their sets at OBH.

I feel like the BoH debate on this forum is just like the MMJ debate on the Wilco forum. The only difference is that on the Wilco forum we're defending a good band.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

Boom, down.

I definitely don't view "Dawes as BOH light". I've seen this almost as many times as I've seen MMJ and they are great live! Everyone in the band is super talented and Taylor and Griffin have great harmonies together. They have a super tight sound and you'll be impressed if you've never seen them live.  And what's with all the vitriol for all these awesome bands playing OBH? Go hear something new or go to one of the many bars and get out of the way of the people who want to listen. I can't wait to see ALL the bands!

Thank you! So many people are trying to make this some sort of contest or take digs aka Band of Snooze. We get it. Fact is, MMJ and BOH are good friends, and were invited for a reason. Good thing is there are a lot of other options to do in Riviera Maya while these sets are going on. Or you could just sit back and enjoy the vibe. I wasn't the biggest fan of Flaming Lips so my wife and I took two chairs, sat near the back bars and enjoyed the atmosphere. You're in Mexico for goodness sake!

Really looking forward to the acoustic set!

Hoping the headlining night is a bit more reminiscent of their earlier days...

I'm with you. REALLY excited about the acoustic set. I hope it's not on the main stage. And I'm curious how they'll follow Dr Dog cause I expect the pressure will be on BoH after the Dog set.

FWIW, my co-worker is going and while she likes MMJ, she said she wouldn't be going if not for BOH being on the bill.  I can't imagine they will be feeling much pressure during their headlining gig, I feel like they will have a good showing of fans.

I posted earlier in the thread but I think it was kind of overlooked - I saw BOH twice when they opened for MMJ, once at an outdoor venue and once at the Peabody in STL - and I found them MUCH more enjoyable in STL at a more intimate, indoor venue. They just fill the sound there much better. I know OBH isn't indoors, but I would think it at least feels like a more intimate experience than an outdoor pavillion - here's to hoping some of you enjoy!

My main complaint (and I use the word complaint rather lightly) is that BOH is the headliner on the off day.  They just don't throw down like a headliner should.  Headliner really should have been Dr. Dog or WOD on the off night.  But I'm not losing sleep over this.  Three nights of MMJ!

Personally, I thought Band Of Horses were great.  Admittedly, I'm a big fan of theirs, I caught their pre-show in Orange County two nights before heading down to OBH (BOH were on the same flight as me, talked to them and they were all very cool).  Their headlining set was great, and their acoustic set was fun and laid back, although they still had fifteen minutes on the clock when they ended.  That bummed me out a bit - would've loved to hear more!
Cuz it's been so long since someone shattered me.

I can really only judge a band after I've seen them live... I first saw Band of Horses live in 2011 opening for MMJ on the Circuital tour and I've loved them ever since. Their live show is high energy and fun and I personally really like their music. Their acoustic set at OBH2 was definitely a highlight for me and my OBH crew. Another reason I've grown to love BoH is because they are all so friendly! My fiancee and I stopped Ben at OBH and he talked to us about random shit for 20 minutes! I just really like the band's overall attitude and I think they are a perfect addition to anything MMJ wants to touch. Plus it really seems like both the MMJ and BoH fellas are good friends, so that is great reason for them to keep playing together. Personally, I'd be happy if they were back at OBH3. And please please please bring Dr. Dog back too!
