Late during night 1 (I think during Anytime), one of the waiters sans tray of drinks, got out his phone and filmed MMJ for several minutes.  He was totally into it.

On a completely different topic, I thought Conor's take on Smokin from Shootin was odd.  He was performing it like it was a hard rock Soundgarden song from 1992.  I was too far away to tell if he was drunk or spilling beers, I just thought his take on it didn't fit the vibe.

I think it was an MOF inspired take on it...

I love that Conor makes the verse his own. ♥! His and Jim's voices are obviously very different, so he kind of has to change it around.

And my general take on Conor Oberst + MMJ on the same stage can only be described as:

Europe ♥ My Morning Jacket

I've been a Bright Eyes/Oberst hater for a long time. Kind of got over that but it hasn't translated into me digging his catalogue yet. My girlfriend who was there with me, and who has entertained my MMJ obsession for a long time, used to be really into him, so it was kind of cool to get to experience her enjoyment vicariously, as I think my fascination with MMJ has been a fun vicarious experience for her. Still can't see myself ever really listening to Conor though.

So in other words, I'm sure it would have been easy to have been annoyed by Conor there, but other factors prevented that. Annoyance can be very relative.

Digging your posts MusiKel Mama!

Also, one of my highlights from OBH 2 was wandering into that little jungle/par course trail thing just on the north side of the stage for a smoke break, and having bats flying circles around me while Dondante was playing. Far fucking out.

Angelo

I can't think of a worse time to leave for a smoke break than during Dondante. Crazy!

well to clarify, it was during smokin that i ran over there to take a piss, and i didn't stay for long... but the bats kept me in there longer.

anyone see those large, rat-like animals cruising around at night.  My wife says she saw a possum, but I'm not convinced that it was.  And the leaf cutter ants moving large amounts of vegetation at night was pretty cool too.  I did not see any of the spider monkeys.

When we were on our way from Coba to the Cenotes, our guide said, "Dis ees no like a Disney Theme Park. Dis ees da real yungle. We hab yaguars, capybeara, monkies..." And then he proceeded to put on "Welcome to the Jungle" on the van stereo. Everyone fucking lost it. So well played.

Mageetah...you got a little Dondante Fear and Loathing style!!!

Yes! Agouti is the ancient Mayan word for "rat that mirrors dingleberry". My codex deciphering skills may be rusty, but I'm like 99℅ sure
