QuoteWhat song did they play?  My NBC station froze coming out of commercial and didn't come back on until Conan walked out to shake their hands.  So pissed off right now.

Say Please
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

Watching it now. Will looks like he's just having a blast playing drums.

Yim looks like he has a boo boo on his nose

After reading the liner notes and watching Mogis play that solo, I'm suddenly fascinated with his work

3 Things......

The CHILLS are back!   The CPM factor (Chills Per Minute) on this album is huge.

My DVR cut off the entire Conan performance because our 10 o'clock news ran long.   :'( When will I ever learn.

Also, there is a live version of Temazcal on Itunes that you can buy individually or with the album.  Downloading now.....

I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Havent posted my thoughts yet since I got to the party late and didnt hear almost all of the album until the actual day it came out  ;D

Dear God and Say Please have really grown on me and were the only songs I heard before yesterday...Both seemed average at first, but I like both a lot now.

Whole Lotta Losin has a Wilbury's/Orbison sound to it. On the first listen I was actually reading the lyrics, and I didnt like the song much, but its already grown on me.

Temazcal is the best song Ive heard all year. I fully agree with everyone who has said Conor's songs are the best on the album, and I dont own any Bright Eyes or anything (I think this album might turn a lot of people on to them, I know Im going to). My next 3 favorite songs on the album very well might be Ahead of the Curve, Map of the World, and Man Named Truth (gave one my ego, gave one my id  :o).

Losin Yo Head is awesome. Probably the only song that contends with any of the Oberst songs as my 1 of my favorites. His Master's Voice is probably JJ's best lyrics since some songs on Z.

Magic Marker not feeling at all.

For me, the only disappointing 1 of the 3 was M Ward. SB&Me is the only song of his I like a lot on the album.

Overall Im really digging this, but Magic Marker, Baby Boomer, Goodway, and Slow Down Jo hold it back from being 1 of my few favorites of the year. Its up there though  :)

Please please give Slow Down Jo a 2nd, 3rd, and 4th chance. I wanted to hate it when I first heard it but I can't. I wanted to hate it like I wanted to hate Radio Cure by Wilco, but if you just press the headphones tight against your head, or turn up the volume on your stero super loud, you will melt.

The rest you mentioned, I'm pretty "meh" about, especially "goodway" and "magic marker" though Baby Boomer is slowly growing on me more and more

Pitchfork review is up.

I thought this was interesting:

On the gorgeous opener, "Dear God (Sincerely M.O.F.)", [James] and Mogis (the disc's stars, no question) shape a subtle soul track with harp, synthesizers, and samples drums from "Is There Any Love", a cut from the Numero Group's Good God! collection that's also been lifted by Kid Cudi.

The Good God! compilation is absolutely fantastic; definitely seek it out if you have any love for gospel soul and funk.
if it falls apart or makes us millionaires

In defense of marino, that post was made in the shows section. I doubt many people are checking out that section due to the MMJ hiatus. I myself missed that thread witch is why I posted about the Conan performance in a couple other threads.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

What the hell is a "decoupage"?

Forgive my ignorance

EDIT:  Ok I looked it up.  Obviously I'm not a golfer (artist)

Very interesting review. Pitchfork's love/hate relationship with Jim James is endlessly entertaining. Then again, I'm a bit annoyed at Pitchfork's tossing off of the rest of the group. Both may have retained their core sound, but the strides they've taken on this album are definitely apparent (Conor harmonizing and actually for once not overwriting, M Ward rocking out and finding additions to his sound).

I'll no doubt check that compilation out ALady, thank you.

Once again, Pitchfork: MEH

I feel like they're in some sort of battle to out-pretentious Conor.

I appreciate the love for Yim though.

I'm envious.  The first time I listened was such a thrill ride.

QuoteSince that tour (2004), Oberst released three successively weak albums as Bright Eyes

I'm Wide Awake weak?  It's commonly thought of as his best. :-/

QuoteWard, now Oberst's labelmate, has since released four albums of retro distillations

Try three

QuoteVery few of the tunes here are flawless

What the fuck does that mean?

QuoteOberst's "Temazcal", for instance, fumbles through a listless decoupage of pagan and Spanish images and lands more than once on maudlin lyrics that seem like Facebook status updates.

Good one. Pffff.   ::)

I thought it was from Trevor Dandy...

They gave the Inglorious Basterds Soundtrack a better rating than this.  Why do I even bother?
