There was a huge thunderstorm last night.  Even Mother Nature knew the Monsters were coming.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

It looks like the Vinyl won't be available until October 13th.  Can anyone confirm this?

LP not available at earxtacy.
I can't believe record labels bitch so much when they drop the ball on a release date... Especially on one of two formats keeping the industry afloat!

Wow!  :o

Mine shipped yesterday but I won't have it for another week or so...
God will forgive them. He'll forgive them and allow them into Heaven.....I can't live with that.

Wassup K man!  Have you listened yet?   I noticed the same thing on the vinyl.  (October 13th.)  Bummer.

Brother Beck

Phenomenal album.  I really like every song on it.

It seems to me that everyone involved really collaborated and fleshed out songs that may have been started by one of the other songwriters, giving it a really unique and interesting style.  While you can seemingly pick out who was the mastermind behind many of the songs, the album itself doesn't just sound like a couple of Jim James songs, a couple of Conor Oberst songs and a couple of M. Ward songs jammed together onto an album, which is what I was expecting.  As a fan of all three, I was happily expecting this, but the album is definitely a pleasant surprise.

I think my favorite track is Losin Yo Head - partly because it most reminds me of an MMJ song but also just because it sounds like they really cut loose and are having fun on that one.

Great stuff.

i know Ky and ALady have seen it, but did anyone post about the article in SPIN? Full page pic of JJ. It's one of the funniest interviews yet and he mentions writing songs for the Jacket too  :D Jim is a cut up! Who knew? Guess we all did.

So none of you said, "Don't touch my song!"
James: No, it was like, "Touch my song. Touch it again. Like that. Touch it like that." (Laughs)

Did you compromise your other projects by bringing in your songs and using them on this record?
James: Not at all. When I wrote the songs that would end up being on this, I was also writing songs for My Morning Jacket. Songs just fall out, and I start putting them in categories. There are songs that come out where I'm instantly like, "this would be ideal for My Morning Jacket." And then there are other ones that are a question mark.  Besides the guys in My Morning Jacket are all really ego-less. We've made it a rule that we can all do whatever we want when we're not doing the band."

You're totally going to quit My Mornning Jacket now, aren't you?
Oberst: Make the call.
James: Already did.

Let's get this straight, for the search engines: Jim James has left My Morning Jacket?
James: Yeah, it's already done. There were a lot of tears.

Jim should sing that good on all the MMJ songs.
Ride the music wave and wipe out really good!

I got the album this morning...can't stop listening to it...repeat...repeat...repeat. IT SOUNDS SO NICE 8-)

There's a line in Ahead of the Curve that goes "What a scene that has got you sentimental when the night comes, when the knot comes loose". I know it's not a purposeful MMJ reference, but it made me smile. Jim's singing backup during that line too.

ManNamedTruth

Monsters Of Folk on Conan tonight.
Album sounds great! Even though I've never been a Bright Eyes fan I like what Conor brings to this album.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

I love the self-refrences throughout the album.

- What you just mentioned
- Basically all of The Sandman, the Brakeman, and Me
- Jim's "monsters" line in Losin' Yo Head
- In Baby Boomer: "We couldn't agree about September, could we agree on Vietnam?" ...is this also referring to the September release date?
- Slow Down Jo possibly being about Jim (see other thread)
In another time, in another place, in another face

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

I'm really respecting conor a bit more after this album and the recent interviews.  hopefully that emo thing was just a phase.  no more tears conor, no more tears.  smile frowny face, smile.  I'll be your friend now... got any drugs?

Sticky Icky Green Stuff

Jim on bass was sweet/funny to see.  such a cool spontaneous thing this band could be.

kymomandstuff

Fantastic! It took me back to The Traveling Wilburys.I guess tonight Jim was The Monster's Jeff Lynne. ;D The guys were looking sharp as well.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

What song did they play?  My NBC station froze coming out of commercial and didn't come back on until Conan walked out to shake their hands.  So pissed off right now.
