thanks for backing me up, I was feeling steam rolled there for a bit.  But I also forgot to apoligize for giving people the inside info about MMJ/Wilco so that they could get good seats (another thing that I got reprimanded for), I was just trying to help some people out and ease their nerves about MMJ opening the show.  Next time I get some news like that I'll be sure not to post it. Sorry again.

It's a win/win situation for me. I saw WILCO in Memphis in March at the Orpheum. It was a killer performance, however, one of my friends brought his "buzz kill" girlfriend, and she tried her damndest to ruin the show for everyone. You know one of those negative people, who'd rather be at a Cowboy Junkies show(nothing against the Junkies)? She scowled THE ENTIRE SHOW! I tell ya, Tweedy ended a couple of songs with 4-5 minutes of feedback, and I could see this woman's skin crawling (I actually enjoyed seeing her in pain (what does that say about me?)). My point? I really think MMJ will open, but, if for some reason they don't, I got pretty good seats to see one of my favorite bands (and perhaps TWO of my favorite bands in one night)! Plus, my wife and I get to visit Louisville again (via Nashville). We had such a grand time up and down Bardstown Rd when we came to the 03 Headliners show... Life is good! ;D

I think we all really appreciate your tip man.  I know I felt a lot better after I heard your tip.  The thing is--we are all rabid fans here, and people really are on edge about whether they are or are not playing.  Let's just all try to stay cool.

I went to the Palace in person and two people at the ticket window said the Jacket is playing.  I guess it is all going to be a big mystery.  It kind of makes it fun.  Hugs and hanshakes.

I think you're right, in a way. It does matter about the people around you. We saw them once and were sitting behind some people who'd come to see the other act. They were chatting throughout mmj and one guy was reading a book by the light of his mobile 'phone. I guess that's less of a problem where there aren't any seats and you can free range around.

It is not a tumor!  I mean rumor. By the way I Just saw them front row at Bonnaroo and it was my favorite performance. Had to give them this over Trey who put on an almost equally awesome and fun show.

Quotepeace in jones?!  jim's dream to play at the palace?!  dude, WTF?

exactly....

Didn't mean to steam roller you. Really. I'm too sensitive about namecalling and stuff, I know.
Peace (not necessarily in the jones  ;))

OK, we all know how MMJ likes to pull out the pranks for their shows (the 21st century version of the Merry Pranksters??). Logic says they will open for WILCO at the Palace (Can you imagine MMJ being suprised that people expect them to open? They open for them the night before, WILCO announces Louisville show late, it's MMJ home base, it's not like a relunctant Blink 182 opening, it's WILCO...logic says they open). Now, what do the boys have up their sleeves for not announcing they are playing? I mean, J Tweedy has a pretty twisted sense of humor too. Hhhhmmmmm. I remember being suprised by the awesome covers they pick, the bear, the parrot, the ghost, the sandwiches, the conductor, the peeps, the omnichord and sax, the puppets...what next? What bizarreness do they have in store for Louisville on the 30th?

Exactly.   I really need to find tickets for this, is it to late?
There's Still Time.........

aMillionDreams

no, I think that there are tickets left someone said they still had some floor seats left a day or two ago.

but i just really think that sucks. why wouldn't they announce they would play the palace ahead of time. i think its kind of crappy of them. im feining to see them in my hometown it would suck if they just snuck that show in under our noses. i mean, what if that was the only show they play here in louisville the whole year. thats why im pissed. sorry for any hurt feelings.

corey

I seriously doubt that this would be the only Louisville gig for the year. They're gonna hit the road big-time once the album is released. Why wouldn;t they play Louisville again?

kevinjanes

they did only play one show here last year at Lebowskifest, so there's room for a little concern I guess...

aMillionDreams

I think that there is definately room for concern.  The amount of shows that they play in Louisville has decreased every year since they became a band.   I was seriously concerned that they wouldn't play in Louisville at all this year.  And I wouldn't hold my breath on there being a headliners show any time soon.  Going from the Palace to Headliners would be a step down and if this band is going anywhere it's going to be up.  It sucks for Louisville, but MMJ belongs to the world now.  We just have to see them when we are lucky enough to get the chance, just like everyone else in the world.

right, or travel 8 hours from Louisville to Athens, GA like I did last week, all the while my girlfriend was laughing that I would drive 8 hours to see a band from my hometown. But she's just a casual fan and doesn't understand that they're not a "local" band anymore. So hometown gigs are few...

It was worth every mile, even thru 2 hours of traffic in Atlanta. They pretty much rocked my socks off.

kymoose

Yeah, it is definitely frustrating the number of KY shows has decreased dramatically.  I saw something on VH-1 about Kid Rock--when he was trying to get big, he would only play one or two shows a year in Detroit Rock City--and they would be these big, hype-machines because of it (kind of like VHSorBeta?).  This is a different story, because the Jacket is playing to large crowds all over the place now.

Anyway, we just have to hold out hope for the Palace.  It must be really tough on those folks across the Big Pond, like doctorinthehouse and greggy.  They have waited even longer for a Jacket show.

ratsprayer

well im not from louisville at all, but its only 2 1/2 to 3 hours from where i live in ohio.  i just rearranged my schedule to go see the jacket in asheville and knoxville, so you really do have to do whats necessary if youre able to do it.  even taking fucking 10 1/2 hours to get to asheville because of wrecks (when it should have taken 7), i dont regret it because the jacket melt your face off live, as sweatboard so nicely put it.  so they cant always come to you, but theyre one of the few bands worth going to them!

Don't worry, lady.  I am sure that a big tour will happen with Z.  You will have your fest, too.  :)

p.s.  I know nothing.  I'm just assuming.
