Because it leads to speculation about tours and whatnot that may or may not happen.  Posting "hey, they are coming to City X on July 8th" sounds like it's official, when in fact it may not be at all.  Why get people's hopes up when it's not official??  If it's posted here, it's happening.  If not, it's just idle speculation.  

I'm just sayin'.  After a couple of years of wild speculation about dates and tours and the fallout here when MMJ didn't go to City X when the promoter's daughter's butler's cousin said they would, it gets old.

Just like those two shows at the Palace that I "speculated" and by some miracle ended happening the way I said it would.  Or the Newport Festival show that was announced on the Newport Folk Fest website months before it was "officially confirmed".  It's not all speculation, some people actually have good information and they should be able to share it here.   John just wants to act important by pretending to want to spare everyone's feelings.  If I want to get my hopes up that's my decision or anyone else's, not John's.  Speculation belongs on the forum.  Official news belongs on the NEWS and SHOWS pages.

            To my way of thinking, it hurt the band much more than you and "your continent" when they cancelled this last
European tour.   You may have given them "the break" but it wasn't given to them in any or heuristic or benevolent fashion!   By that I just mean that you weren't doing them any favors.   Remember:  cream always rises to the top!   If they hadn't made a splash in Holland and Denmark in late '99 and early '00, do you think they'd have just packed up their guitar cases and that Jim and the boys would've been working at McDonald's now?     They have *earned* every postive response, every accolade, and every fan and fanatic by themselves;  they don't owe you and Europe or us and American anything.   Dude, they have cancelled tours over here before.   I've had tickets to shows on at least three tours that were either postponed and cancelled.   They are truly sorry that they had to cancel, I'm sure of it.   But whining about it doesn't help anyone.   Life's a bitch, life isn't fair, but I guaran-damn-tee you that the sun's still going to come up tomorrow whether MMJ tours again or not.  And if it doesn't, that lack of touring won't have had a damn thing to do with it!

btw, I definitely think speculation should be allowed, and as long as it isn't on this site, it is automatically speculation, so I don't feel the need to still explicitly mention that.
