I loved the show. It was a great experience. The smoke did get to me, but I didn't let it get in the way of my experience!

Wordless Chorus and Dancefloor were probably my two favorites of the night.

the show was amazing
the smoke wasnt an issue, if youve been going to any shows for any length of time. It amazes me that people..a)complain about things like that at a general admission show
b)forget that there are GINORMOUS smoke machines bellowing out clouds for hours, too

personally, nothing short of an anvil dropped on my head couldve interupted my bliss last night.

my girlfriend and I were about 12 feet from the stage...right center, and the sound was pretty good, considering that Louisville Gardens is def NOT an acoustic-friendly venue.

opening with One Big Holiday was great.
to me...that and Gideon were high points.
but, and maybe it's just me, when I'm swept up in that energy and soulstorm, there is no 'less good'.....
 there is only 'more incredible'

some drunk girl tried to pick a fight with me about halfway through the set because I was 'too close' to her. she pushed me and hit me in the stomach, even though at the time I was standing behind my girlfriend with my arms around her.
I told  her that that was an unfriendly way to make an introduction, and that 'you should smile, we ALL have more fun when we smile'. 20 minutes later, she apologized and her and her boyfriend smoked a kind fatty with me.
Now THAT'S fucking teamwork

I'm so proud of these boys.
I used to go see them play when less than 100 people were in the club.
with the love they put into their art, they deserve all the success in the world.

it will ALWAYS move

I'd rather have a bottle in front of me than a frontal lobotomy

Now that's the spirit!  Thank you!

Yeah, I love the way you handled the drunk girl situation..........some of us need to get together and teach a class on concert behavior 101.

Lesson 1.  RELAX!!!!!!!!!

You're here to have fun and enjoy the music.  If someone tries to give you some lip.....smile and say something nice.  If someone is right next to you is talking during the begining of Don Dante..........simply ask them "Exscuse me, but would you kindly SHUT THE FUCK UP!!!!!  and remember smile while you say it.  :D (ok, mabey we need to work on that one)

On the subject of asking people to kindly shut the fuck up just check out Jeff Tweedy's dvd "Sunken Treassure"  he has a monolouge right before he does "Is That The Thanks I Get"  that pretty much says it all.  You would LOVE it Tracy!!!
There's Still Time.........

"the smoke wasnt an issue, if youve been going to any shows for any length of time."

I disagree.  Apparently, you're a smoker, so smoke might not bother you much.  My wife and I left early as a result of it.  Smoke bothers me, it made another poster almost pass out, and it is quite harmful to my pregnant wife and soon-to-be-born son.

"It amazes me that people..a)complain about things like that at a general admission show"

I think you missed my point.  General admission has nothing to do with it.  Would it "amaze" you if people complained about someone smoking in a non-smoking movie theater?  Or the non-smoking section of a restaurant?  The point is that this was a non-smoking venue.

I've been to many shows in bars that allow smoking.  When I decide to go to such a show, I know ahead of time that I will be exposed to second-hand smoke.  It is my choice to attend such a show.  This was a non-smoking show.  Thus, I think it's quite reasonable for me to assume that it will be smoke-free, and you should not have the option of smoking there, whether it be a cigarette or a "kind fatty."

Just as I make a choice to attend a "smoking" show at a bar as a non-smoker, you make a choice to attend a "non-smoking" show as a smoker.

Second-hand smoke is especially bad for people with asthma, pregnant women, babies, children, etc.  These people know that there will be smoking at a show in a bar that allows smoking.  So, they don't attend such shows.  Should these people avoid all events at non-smoking venues, because others might want to break the rules and smoke there?

"b)forget that there are GINORMOUS smoke machines bellowing out clouds for hours, too"

I'm pretty sure that smoke is non-carcinogenic.  It doesn't stink, it doesn't make my clothes stink, it doesn't make my eyes water, and it doesn't give anyone cancer.

"smoked a kind fatty with me"

So....how do you feel about all the asthmatic people, pregnant women, and children in attendance?

I love Phone Went West, and they played that.  But Just One Thing and Run Thru were the highlights for me.  Just One Thing especially.  That song is so beautiful, even more so hearing Jim's "ahhhh ahhh ahhh ahhh" live.

Did anyone else see the MMJ-themed Maker's Mark ad?  I thought it was pretty cool.

Kory - as a fellow photographer, I think your pics came out great, considering they were taken with a point-and-shoot camera.  If you have any other good pics, you should post them in the gallery.  I took some pics with my rangefinder camera that I brought with me, but at first glance, they didn't come out too well.  If I can get some of them to look decent, I'll post them.

I',m sorry...I thought there was a band playing music.
I wasn't there to weigh pros and cons of cigarette smoke.
Lighten up.....or get bootleg live videos.
This was a concert. Certain things are and always will be expected and tolerated.
People like you are the reason the Dead stopped playing here when they did.

...always something to complain about, no matter how wonderful whats going on around them is.

Music venues in Los Angeles are completely 100 percent smoke free. And I think that's the case in New York City too.
So no bro, certain things wont always be expected and tolerated.

QuoteI guess it's just because backwoods Missouri is a bit behind the times, but every show I have ever been too has been thick with smoke, and since I quit 5 years ago (this january ;)) I have had to leave my clothes in the garage when I get home becuase they stink so bad.
OK I HAVE to bust you out her BH. You told me you quit 3 years ago, remember cause I asked you about it when I saw you smoking :o ;D

Damn did I say three?  Well honestly, when I was writing on here I had time to think about it I came up with five years. Because I was going to quit if the Rams won Super Bowl 36 and then they actually made to the Super Bowl and lost so it was so close I had to quit anyway.  (My stupid reasoning was that if the Rams won, I would be so happy that I wouldn't need to smoke.  But obviously it backfired and I was twice as miserable.)  4 years 10 months to be more accurateTime flies.  Your sharp.  You should be an FBI agent. ;)
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Quit = discontinue, stop, cease, give up, quit, lay off

I swear, that was probably about the 10th cigarette I've had in the last two years!

It's OK really, the cardinals just won :-/  you can smoke for a year and it won't count  ;)

okay, this was my first mmj show.  yeah, the venue SUCKED and people smoked like friggin freight trains.  but it rocked so hard, that stuff didn't matter.  my only complaint was that they didn't play bermuda highway, which is my personal fave.  other wise, a kick ass show.

ycartrob

what's with the excessive use of the strobe lights aimed at the audience?  Combined with all the smoke, it just gave me a headache.

people were smoking EVERYWHERE - it was like a smoke-filled bar

The smoke got really bad, so we left after about an hour of MMJ's set.

There was a lot of smoke

The smoke was a real issue...I ended up almost passing out

the smoke was quite unbearable

I could barely stand all the smoking going on in the building

Music venues in Los Angeles are completely 100 percent smoke free. And I think that's the case in New York City too.
