he's playing bass (as is Tommy) on "Two Halves"

its crazy cause he has the capo on like the 8th fret.

somebody yelled "dueling basses!" when he strapped it on...it was funny!  ;D

Seeing those pics fom eysterday made me about 100x's more excited for the 20th. I don't know how I'm gonna get any work done betwen now and then. I love this band.
The wind blew me back, via Chicago, in the middle of the night.

Alright...I put together a "highlight" reel of yesterday's performance at EarX-Tacy and it has finished uploading on youtube.  This is the best of what I had as I quickly gave up on capturing quality video and focused on just capturing the audio with my camera.  Check it out at this link:

Hopefully this isn't a violation of forum rules or anything. If it is I'll delete the post.

Cheers.

QuoteForgot to mention another highlight of the show (for me at least)...seeing the band's family rocking out and singing the lyrics to all the new songs.  It was great...especially when Jim gave 'em a wink during OBH.

:)

Sorry, to ruin it, but he winked at me.  I gave him the fist pump approval and he gave me the nod and the wink...however, he may have been winking at my girlfriend...but he doesn't seem like that kind of guy.

BTW- I got some really great pics (I hope).  I shot three rolls of film but haven't developed them yet.  I'll post some if they turn out.  I like the mystery!

TheBri-Man

Here's my take.
This was an amazing show.  The crowd was great I thought, and hats off to Ear X-Tacy for making all of it happen.  The stage was set and a nice mix of soul music played before the boys came out (Marvin Gaye's - What's Happening Brother and a Sam Cooke song, which I can't remember...Anyone know it?)  This set the mood nicely.  Then they came out and ripped off the album.  It was very exciting to see everyone's reactions and see how much they seemed to enjoy the new stuff.  They finished with Good intentions and I thought they were finished...but they lit into a heavy "encore" filled with a wonderful version of OBH and Off the Record.  You could tell that they...especially Jim were very happy to be there.  Myself...a lifelong Louisvillian was almost reduced to tears a few times...I've been following them forever and I was so proud to see them up on that stage.

Overall it was a great show and I can't wait to get "MMJ live at Ear X-Tacy."

A few other notes.
- Jim plays Bass on Two Halves as noted earlier.  A sweet Rickenbacker too!
- The guitar at the beginning of smokin' from a shootin' is played by Jim who looked as if he was just banging his palm against the strings.
- They all seemed to have new instruments and they sounded great.
- The Z panda has been replaced on the bass drum with the Evil Urges Owl
- The Bear was on stage with a mexican poncho...I got my picture taken with it afterwards!  I'm a loser!

I didn't think I could love them more...but I do...plus I got the CD, a T-Shirt and At Dawn Vinyl!  It was a good day.

P.S. Sorry for the long post...but if someone could tell me what the song (I think it was Sam Cooke) that played before the show was...I'd appreciate it, otherwise I'm gonna drive myself crazy.  Thanks

Kory

Bo was singing a bunch of the high backing vocals. I thought it was mostly Carl until I heard the songs in person.

Did anyone notice who was doing the background vocals on Touch Me Part I at the end during the "untied" portion?  Sounds soooo goood.
I'm digging, digging deep in myself, but who needs a shovel when you have a little boy like mine.

Dave, I'm thinking that it was Both Carl and Bo... All three of them were singing! I think Carl is doing some highs and lows and Bo is hitting the highs on a lot of songs...

I thought for sure that was Jim doing layers on the album but when I listened to the WFPK show it sounded just like the CD so I knew it had to be somebody else or in the can (which would have been fine with me, I have no issue with a few clips played thru the keys)

you know, now that you say that, I recall hearing a synth'd Jim vocal during soundcheck but I just cannot remember what song it was for. They played it several times and you could tell it was a clip and not him doing it live. I should pay better attention.

Oh I certainly wouldn't have noticed either, except for the fact that I have been wondering about that one background vocal cause it sounds so sweet.  I just kept envisioning a guest female vocalist doing it live with them at bonnaroo or something.

Oh, and how about some Andrew Bird violin on Librarian?  Is he going to be at Bonnaroo I wonder.....

The only time a synth was used of Jim's voice last night was the "AhhhAHHHahhh" during Anytime.

I was talking to Carl's dad last year at the Rudyard Kipling show and he was saying that one of the reasons carl was brought into the band (other than the fact that he is the MF'ing BOMB-DIGGITY) is that his voice sounds a lot like (and blends well with) Jim's.  They really utilized that on this album.
