The show was great. Its crazy that this was sorta "free".

They played Evil Urges front to back, then for an encore played:

Wordless
Gideon
Off the Record
OBH
Anytime

The show was phenomenal!! I wasn't sure what to expect in terms of length since it was at EarXtacy and most shows there are only 20 or 30 minutes.  MMJ busted out like near two hours of pure heaven. Super packed and highly energized hometown crowd. Unbelievable show.

Here is the set list as I recall:

1. Evil Urges
2. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt.1
3. Highly Suspicious
4. I'm Amazed
5. Thank You Too!
6. Sec Walkin
7. Two Halves
8. Librarian
9. Look at You
10. Aluminum Park
11. Remnants
12. Smokin From Shootin
13. Touch Me I'm Going to Scream Pt.2
14. Good Intentions
15. Wordless Chorus
16. Gideon
17. Off the Record
18. One Big Holiday

I video taped the show, for audio, as most of the film was of the ceiling or floor and hope to get the tracks uploaded soon.

getinthevan

So they've finally busted out Remnants!  Hope you all had a spectacular time!

tsauer01 is correct but is missing Anytime as number 19.

I walked past Ear-x-tacy around 4pm(?) and there was MMJ in the window doing a sound check.  There was already a bit of a line.

After several beers, my friend and I headed to the venue at 5:30.  People were already being let in and we felt like we were nearly the last ones in, but still managed to find a good spot.

It quickly became clear that this was in fact going to be a live listening party for Evil Urges.  The sound was good but not great.  I enjoyed the show thoroughly and my friend (a first-timer to live MMJ) was impressed by Jim's voice.

My favorites (at this show) were:  Highly Suspicious, Librarian, Remnants, Smokin From Shootin, and Touch Me part 2.

The crowds energy definitely picked up after Evil Urges when the band played more familiar songs.  I was surprised to only hear EU, Z and one song from It Still Moves as they stated before the show that this recording might be released at ear-x-tacy.  I figured that they would perform a more diverse set to make a live recording worthwhile.  I don't know if anyone will buy a Evil Urges Live w/OBH CD.

Ok, I'm sounding a bit negative.  Overall, it was a great experience.  It was nice to see them having fun and rockin.

Other notes:

It looked like people without tickets still got a good show watching from the window (they played right next to a window).  Jim even sang/played directly to the outsiders at times.

Jim said he had deja vu then went into details about having deja vu while pouring coco pebbles into a bowl of milk.  He also talked about the uniqueness and experience of buying records at local, independent record stores.

I heard that someone in line sold his only ticket for $100.  Word travels fast.  Who on here was the one who purchased it?

I thought it was neat that I was probably standing right next to some of you without even knowing it.  At one point, I almost yelled out, "Kooooooooooooryyyyyyyyyy."  But I didn't

Also, I took some shitty pics but I left the camera in my friend's purse.  I'll post some if no one else does.

I was surprised to find that the Evil Urges cd comes with the vinyl.  Weird.  I haven't put it in yet, but I noticed that the CD w/vinyl has "Rough Trade" (European distributor) and "ATO" imprinted on the disc, while the CD alone only has "ATO" imprinted.

Evil Urges is worth the buy even for just the initial surprise awaiting you when you flip open the cd or vinyl cover.
Just cause it starts off slow babe, doesn't mean I  don't have evil urges.

The show was amazing.  My heartfelt thanks goes out to Kory, he really knows how to please fellow jacketeers.

Possibly the most exciting part of the night was the announcement made by Ear X-Tacy owner that if the recording goes well that we could see a MMJ Live at EXT album come out in the next year.

The only downfall to the show was three extremely obnoxious girls right in front of me who were worried too much about smoking and just seeing JJ rather than the music.  It immediately put me in a bad mood because they were those people who just love to ruin a show for everyone.  i dont know how many times they complained about Kory's height for he waited well over an hour for this experience and he was front row.  Oh well,  the show was still an experience and without any other shows for em this year this one will have to do.

Kory, I guess I did see you.  Were you the super tall dude against the stage in a white shirt?  I might have been in front of you in line to pick up my cd and vinyl.

I'm not sure if you're talking about the same girls, but there was a girl that kept going outside then pushing her way back up to the front of the stage over and over again.  I'm not sure why she bothered to attend really.

Those girls may have been annoying but they did provide me with some laughs.

Before they show one of the girls came up to Kory:

Girl: You're so tall!
Girl: Do you know how tall you are?
Kory: Yes, 6ft4.
Girl: Are you gonna be that tall the whole show?
Kory: Ummm.....
Girl: You're so tall!

When Jim threw his Wordless Chorus Towel into the crowd one of the girls caught it. She went into a total freak out. Looking like she was being electrocuted. Then she just started rubbing it all over herself. If Jim was the preacher she for sure got "healed".

Fucking awesome shows guys! Great hanging out with KC, Dylan and Candice although they're no longer representing on the boards. Glad MikeR could get the ticket from me and get to see the show. I'll write more later.
Here's a couple photos...

There will be more on the way, I will sort through them today...

Kory fantastic pictures!. I am so happy you made it to the front row. Good for you!

I think that is so awesome that people outside could see the show too. and that Jim James turned at times to sing towards them. It is incredible that they played for so long. What a wonderful salute to their hometown fans. I like them more and more, not only each time I hear their music but each time I read how truly awesome they are.

This was an excellent show!  Especially to be "free" since I was going to buy the CD and Vinyl anyway!

I stood next to the sound board during the whole show so I was able to watch the sound guy (I think his name is Ryan).  You could tell it was the first time (outside of SXSW) he has done the live sound for the new songs.  I think the band and crew were a little rusty, but I don't think this affected the sound or the show that much at all (at least to the casual listener/non forum member).  The show was VERY loud, which was expected for such a small place.

The crowd was diverse...even more so than a normal Jacket show.  I was thinking the whole the show that I may never see them with only 500+ again in their career.  There was a definitely an annoying girl that kept coming and going...why did you even come to the show!?!  Anyway...for the most part the crowd was respectful (no talking during the quiet parts of songs) and very enthusiastic.  You could tell most people hadn't heard the majority of the new songs, but the reaction after they played the songs was one of pure joy.  It also was weird to hear people going crazy for songs from Z...I keep forgetting that Z has been out almost 3 years now!

The new songs come off great live...even "Highly Suspicious."  When you see Jim strap on the Flying V you know he's gonna bring the thunder.  The band, especially Jim, Carl, and Patrick, were really into the show.  This is gonna be an awesome tour.  It will be interesting to see how the set list shapes up for a "normal" show.  I thought going from "Touch Me...(Part 2)" into "Wordless Chorus" was a good flow and I expect they may continue to do that.  The last half of the show from "Aluminum Park" to closing with "Anytime" was like a mini Rock Opera...it was very intense!!!

Jim's witty banter (as previously posted about) was in full effect.  The bit about the Cocoa Pebbles was great.  He was talking about having deja vu while jamming out and seeing Carl's pedal board and the ear X-tacy window.  He compared it to when he dreams about pouring Cocoa Pebbles and then when he actually sits down to pour Cocoa Pebbles and sees the same table and light is shining in on the Cocoa Pebbles that everything makes sense.  It was classic Jim banter.

All in all a great show with a good crowd in a great place.  At several points I feared for Kory's life (he was right in front of Jim) as Jim was rocking furiously next to him and I could just see the headstock of the Flying V taking off his head!  What a way to go...decapitated by Jim's Flying V!  ;)  Also, great to see Dylan, Candace, Kory and KC after the show....next time guys we need to share a Hookah at 360!

yea, that was me, in that blog link you posted, I'm the 'super-tall' guy on the far right. I think those girls wanted me to shrink or something... a person can alway go so far as to lose weight but there's just no way to lose height.

I second that, It's been a while since I've had any strawberry flavored tobacco. Good choice on a place to get a bite to eat, even if I was only diverse enough to eat mac and cheese and onion rings...

Forgot to mention another highlight of the show (for me at least)...seeing the band's family rocking out and singing the lyrics to all the new songs.  It was great...especially when Jim gave 'em a wink during OBH.
