To all those who are bitchin' and moanin':

There's more to this band than mere statistics...it's all in the masterplan. Please do your best to take a step back and realize that it's not always about 'us'. Also, they're NOT a jamband...maybe they don't want a bunch of fucking tour rats shwillin' up the purity. Enjoy what we're lucky enough to be a part of. In all respects, we are a part of something special with this band. I hope that WE are never in control of what the band plays, when they play it, what they wear, where they play or what they do...I could have NEVER imagined the brilliance of MMJ...I'm just not that fucking special...ARE YOU?

I think that about sums it up.

The setlists have been more similar on this tour that started in August then they have been in the past. As to whoever is saying they don't know enough songs and until you have been in a band you don't know, obviously niether do you. It is not uncommon for bands to have to play 3 sets in a club doing 20 songs a set. Eddie Vedder decides their setlists by feeling the vibe of the venue and then pulling 25 plus songs out of their asses. MMJ can and should be mixing it up more. I would expect them to play any song from the catalog and have no problems being amazing as usual. Bottom line is there are some songs that haven't been played on this tour that are glaring ommisions. Hopefully that changes with this little break they are on. Can't wait for Portland and Seattle

Funny how we're complaining about setlists for shows we haven't seen. Does it matter that they didn't play Steam Engine if everyone in the house was dancing to Cobra? Unless you were at the show, then you have no reason to complain. If you were there and you think the energy was off last night, then fine. These aren't their last shows or anything. They've got a two-week break from touring, and they'll come back guns-a-blazing as always.  ;)

So why is there any complaining here at all?

Think of the Led Zeppelin reunion. They played for two hours and didn't play Achilles Last Stand. Did anyone care about the die-hards complaining. No. Everyone was simply glad to have been graced by the magic of Led Zeppelin one last time.

The fact of the matter is: the band are moving forward. Are you moving forward?

Damn people. Quit your fucking bellyachin about the setlist and just be fucking grateful they are still around and you get to see them. Some of us are not fortunate enough to go see them this tour. Yeah I'd be very happy with a "predictable" set list right about now. Be thankful that they give it their all. How could anyone ever complain about their live set.   :-/

man, i totally hear what you are saying. there is clearly some validity to what you are saying... i mean same songs night after night. must get tiring for the band as well...

now let me take my tongue out of my cheek and give you a wonderful solution...

next time you see them.... bring your ipod, make sure your favorite songs on a playlist. when they start in on one of the songs you don't necessarily care for at that moment in time. just pop in the headphones and play the song YOU want to hear. you have a wide catalog of live material to choose from. then use your imagination that they are actually playing that song. i promise you it will work. plus you won't also hear all the other people talking and stuff. no one will ever know.

it will be mind blowing. let me know how it works out...

there's a pool and a pond... pond's good for you...

I've seen OKONOKOS probably around 40 times now I'm still not sick of it.  So I've watch that exact setlist 40 times, and every time I watch it I just stare at the tv in a trance of pure joy for 2 hours, and that's just from a dvd, being there is almost more than I can even handle.  So as far as setlists go for MMJ, they could play The Way That He Sings for half of a show and I would go home still feeling excited.  I would rather them completely destroy every show than play 200 different songs and only be able to play them at a 50% level.

Understand I'm not 100% serious.  A lot of the time, i'm playing devils advocate.  I love this band with all my heart and support them to the fullest.  But sometimes it's fun to debate and discuss things in which you love.  Like I said before...it's only cause i care.

to the point where you just make shit up? You're that guy, the guy who goes on a band's message board and tries to stir shit up, then claims to be on board with whatever the band does. You're a piece of work.

my final word on this nonsense (again)

Start your own band, go on your own tour, play your own set list.

in the meantime (ie, until the end of time) be thankful you get anything from MMJ. You're a fan, you're not in the band. Figure it out.

you sound upset....
calm down a little...
it's just a message board....
it's just a band....
it's just a discussion....
chill.....
it's not real life.....

why would I ever do that?

You guys are misunderstanding me.  It's not that I dont respect the band.  it's not that I dont love the music they put out.  It's none of that.

In fact, I love this band just as much as the rest.  In fact I collect concert posters. Even spend my hard earned money properly framing the damn things.  I have traveled thousands of miles to see them play live. Driven across two states.  Waited hours in the rain.  Have refused sex from my beautiful girlfriend because I wanted to watch Okonokos when it first came out.  I listen to this band every day.  Own every CD. Every vinyl (except ISM). Download everyshow and LISTEN TO IT.  I have had dreams involving MMJ. I LOVE THIS BAND....

with that said - I would still like for them to switch up their setlists a little more....to keep it frothy.  If they don't - I'll still listen to their music everyday and I will still hope, that on a continuous basis,  their LIVE shows will be varied day by day, because varity is something I admire.
God damn those shaky knees.

As a mom I can relate to the meatloaf analogy but perhaps this will make it a bit clearer to the complainers.
If I made meatloaf every night and my family complained I would understand why. However,if I made meatloaf PLUS 24 other entrees every night and they still complained I'd give them directions to the nearest Mickey D's.
If you weren't even at the show and you're complaining about the setlists then it's like complaining because your friend's mom made meatloaf again.
Maybe it would be a better experience for all if everyone could just relax and be thankful we're having a discussion over the new songs vs the classics.Just a few short years ago there were no classics at all.
Someday we'll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers, and me.

All I'm sayin is they better switch that shit up for Chicago, two night runs have different rules..unless they are filming.. 8-)

QuoteHas everyone here noticed how nice I have been the past couple of months? well, sorry

fuck phish
I'd rather listen to Jim James take a dump into a metal trash can over a pay phone while I'm outside in August in Mississippi than see 30 Phish shows in a row where they do not repeat 1 song on their set lists.

and change up your own set list

(there, I feel better)

Atlanta quickly comes to mind, couldn't stop listening to that show this weekend.  By far the tightest no nonsense show of the tour...imo  :P
