So I heard from a pretty big MMJ fan that I recently met that they are going to do some US shows in 2009, one if which would be at the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. Anyone have any info on this at all? Hope I don't start a huge rumor here, if someone's positive it's not/won't ever be true feel free to shut it down......

Is your friend a well-connected big fan?

Was it stated off the record?  (Come on.)   ;)

Bowery Ballroom sounds great to me!   I'd be willing to bet they will play some US shows in 2009.  I'll give 10 to 1 odds.

I'm with you on that one BH. They don't have it in them to not do some shows this year...they love performing too much. I'll bet their U.S. touring will pick up mid-summer to the end of the year. That's just a guesstimation.

A repeat of the Louisville Waterfront show would be nice about mid August.

I can't really see them playing the Bowery at this point in their carrer, although it would be awesome. Morrisey is playing there in March though, so who knows.

So you finally convinced them to play the backyard concert? Saaaaweet!.

I think they'll take a break and make another album... They've already said it's already in the works. Either way shows or an album will be equally great.

I don't know, if I remember correctly that waterfront Arcade Fire show was in October a couple years ago and it was pretty fucking cold...

2009 tour?  Pretty please with sugar on top?!

i don't really think they'll tour in 2009. i think JJ will tour w/Conor and M Ward--(summertime?) but after Bonnaroo, RCMH and NYE--i think they'll take a break because anything now would be a let down. they'll probably let the last 6 months sink in :-)

There's an interview with M. Ward in the latest Rolling Stone that says something about the Monsters of Folk project being on hold until 2010.  Make of that what you will...

After playing MSG on New Years I highly doubt they will play a show at such a small small venue.

That makes me so sad. I love the tightness & closeness of the crowd when you can hear only the band and not people discussing work or babysitters. Plus I love my constant wondering and worrying for days if I'll make it to the front... Boo I hope they do some small venues.

I don't think playing MSG means that they are at a certain standard now and can't ever go back to small(er) venues. Granted, the Bowery does seem a bit tiny in comparison.

two cents:

they'll likely play some shows.  it's how they make a living.   [smiley=beer.gif]

still, that time between the end of the okonokos tour and the start of the e.u. tour did seem like a long time...

If anything I believe that the band will return or attempt to land their feet in Europe, playing a few nights in UK, then mainland Europe, given they have missed two tours there in the past few years.

I know for a fact that radio station's are playing their music and the band's manager is maybe saying "we need to tap into this market"

Its a  known fact that bands from USA need to make their name in Europe and bands from UK & Europe need to make their name in USA.

If I were a betting man I would say they will show up in Europe this summer at a lot of the festivals with supports shows in small venue's.

They are not too big for small venue's
