Can anyone tell me if the band has a "no comp" policy with their latest tour?

mahg33ta

what is a "no comp" policy?

edierevolution

The answer: No.

Why do you ask? Obviously if you are in a position to get "comps" to these shows, you could probably just ask for them. Shows at the larger venues (ie. Merriweather Post) I wouldn't think it would be a problem getting comps at all if you are remotely connected.

I'm sure I could have gotten comp'ed for MPP, but I wanted to make sure I was in the PIT, so I just bought my tickets. Besides... gotta support the band!

Not only that, but when you comp, the likelyhood of being outcomped by other compers becomes problematic.  I remember, back in the day, comping was only something we did when we had no other options.  Besides, comping these days is not the same.  I miss the good old comps of yesteryear...  Sigh.

Oh, btw, what the fuck are we talking about?

I'm assuming it's the "free" tickets that bands typically get as part of their touring/performance contracts. Often, when a band agrees to play a show they'll secure x amount of "comped" tickets that they can use to give to friends/family/scouts in the area at will and the tickets won't count towards the gross receipts for the show.

Though in today's crazy mixed up world of promoters, venue owners, and hullaballoo, who knows who owes who what when it comes to these things anymore.

There was some controversy a few years back where a major act was pissed that the venue had comped out the vast majority of the good seats to privately run fanclubs and radio stations, meaning the normal fans stood no chance of good seats, and you had to pay the "fan club membership" or hope to win them on the air...or the corporate sponsors of a stadium got to give their 1000 favorite employees of the month front row seats
I'm surrounded by assholes

Thank you.  I kinda figured but was having fun, as the first and third posts went on as if "comps" was a common term.  And it may very well be so, yet one more indication of how clueless I am.   No offense, I hope.  Comp you, mothercompers!

My dad was a program director at a radio station when I was growing up and we used to get "comped" tickets and albums all the time. Usually the seats (if it wasn't GA) were next to the stage in the lower half of the bowl. The albums used to come weeks/months ahead of time and be notched out on the side of the packaging so they couldn't be sold to a used record store. This was when music sharing meant making a cassette tape for a friend...
