Okay. It doesn't have to be male/female. And it doesn't have to live in any particular category. And you can add suggestions for ones who haven't sung together before if you want.

1. Gram and Emmylou
2. Gillian and David
3. John Prine and Iris DeMent
4. George and Tammy
6. Loretta and Ernest
7. Ian and Sylvia
8. Morrissey and Siouxie
9. Emmylou and Bob (Desire is brilliant, and I don't know if they sang together after that...)
(note - I think Emmylou's voice can make anybody's voice sound wonderful. Not that Bob or Gram couldn't sing. But she just adds this amazing quality.)

I think M Ward and Lucinda Williams could sound fairly nice together.

I am such a fan of vocal harmonies. For the times when I get to sing with people, it makes me sooooooo happy.

Drunkre

1. Michael Stipe and Indigo Girls (Are you on fire?)
2. Eddie Vedder and Nancy Griffith (hasn't actually happened, but should)
3. John Lennon and Paul McCartney (okay, that's cheating)
4. Robert Plant and that chick from the Battle of Evermore (and that is most definitely sexist)
5. George Michael and Elton John (...)
6. Ray Charles and Willie Nelson (if you don't cry when you hear Seven Spanish Angels, you're not human)
7. Joe Strummer and Chrissie Hynde
8. Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford (only half kidding)
9. Dwight Yoakam and Roger Miller (the only time I feel the pain/is in the sunshine and the rain/and I don't feel no hurt at all/unless you count when teardrops fall/I tell the truth 'cept when I lie/and it only hurts me when I cry)
10. River Phoenix and Samantha Mathis

I'm sure there are many more, but I'm nowhere near my music selection.  And I'm busy doing some other stuff.

Quote10. River Phoenix and Samantha Mathis

Is that from that movie where they're trying to be big country stars in Nashville, and she tries so hard to get accepted into the open mic songwriter's circle at that club, and then she finally makes it and it's really exciting?

upon further research: Yes.  I love imdb.  Here's the link: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0108327/

all my life is obscene

what's up drunkre and everyone...awesome thread...i just wanted to clear up some confusion i'm having...i might just not have heard something you all have, if so my mistake...

4. Robert Plant and that chick from the Battle of Evermore

are you referring to the album version of battle of evermore on Zeppelin IV (yes, i know it's technically an "untitled" album...you know which album i'm talking about, so anyways), because zep's bass player/mandolinist, john paul jones, is actually singing the higher vocals on that track (ohh....dance in the dark of night...sing to the morning light...etc), not a woman...if there is some other version of the song with a female counterpart for Plant, then I would love to know where I can hear this!

some of my picks for duets
-eddie vedder and neil young
-jim and m. ward
-allison krauss and james taylor
-paul simon and george harrison
-i don't know if this counts...but i'm gonna have to say that queen and bowie rocked on "under pressure"
-tweedy and farrar...does anyone else dream of seeing some uncle tupelo songs performed at wakarusa?? wilco and son volt are playing....

i would love to see/hear
-jason molina and neil young
-jeff mangum (neutral milk hotel) and jeff tweedy

all my life is obscene, you've been duped. There actually was a woman singing on the track. She owuld be Sandy Denny, and I believe she's given credit on the album itself.

On that note, I would like to hear Jim and James Taylor sing a duet. I think they're voices would work quite nicely together.

Also, some of my faves
-Ben Gibbard and that chick that sings with him on the postal service CD
-James Hetfield and Jason Newsted
-Sam Beam and his sister (from Iron and Wine)
-Damien Rice and his female singer

The river is moving. The blackbird must be flying.

EC

Eisey, do you really not know ANY of the female singers' names that you list?

(except for Sandy Denny?)

tomEisenbraun

sorry, no. Tot ellt he truth, I felt liek a bastard for just correctign that oen guy and not having anythign to post, so I scraped together the few duets I knew put them in there. I liek Damien, but I don't care enough to know the names of the other people on the CD, i just enjoy it every now and then. The Postal Service, I think there's actually two girls on that album, but I never bothered to remember either of their names either. None of them were amazing enough for me to remember, just theat they were quite fitting for the music.

Sam Beam's sister, her name is just escaping me. I really like her voice though.

Serry, I need to start listenign to more music. But I can wait a couple of months till college. That's when you really go nuts, right?

all my life is obscene

well it is good to finally know the truth...
i guess i was thrown off by all the live performances of battle of evermore i have seen, in which jones always takes the high vocals.  thanks for the info.

SmoothOprtr

Sinatra and Bono
Tony Bennett and Billy Joel

Worst Duet: Mick Jagger and David Bowie- I can still pin point the exact moment in my childhood when I realized that sometimes daddys like to be with other daddys at night as Mick and David (both artists I generally really like) took turns spinning around a stripper pole.
The only two things in life that make it worth livin Is guitars that tune good and firm feelin women

hellaciousc

didn't see these mentioned, and they're 3 of the best:

Gary Louris and Mark Olson (from the Jayhawks)---in my opinion  there are no 2 better voices singing together than these 2.   so good.

Phil and Don Everly (from the Everly Brothers)
Ira and Charlie Louvin (from the Louvin Brothers)

i always enjoyed Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty duets too.
