I went to Charlotte a week ago.  Apart from being completely exhausted had a great time.  The guys seem to be on fire this tour and I LOVE all the new tunes in a live setting.  Pendulum makes for a really great opener.  Got to see the live debut of Getaway which was great.  And All Along the Watchtower played with the house lights up was a great closer. I  just wish I could afford to have seen more shows this tour.

EverythingChanges...interested to hear what you think after diving a little deeper into their discography.

I love Getaway. You just can't help but turn it up. I hope they play it when I see them.
How loud can silence get?

So I could write a term paper or you nice folks could entertain me with your thoughts:

Best->Worst Least Amazing

1. Ten
2. Vs.
3. Yield
4. Vitalogy
5. Riot Act
6. No Code
7. Avocado
8. Binaural
9. Backspacer
10. LB

I LOVE the first 7, I have hot&cold relationships with bottom three.
6/3/06, 10/22/10, 6/7/11 12/14, 7/28/12 8/17 12/27 12/28, 7/26/13 10/12, 7/31/15 11/27, 4/29/16

MrWhippy

Off the top of my head, my rating would be:

1.  Vs.
2.  Vitalogy
3.  Ten
4.  Yield
5.  No Code
6.  Binaural
7.  Riot Act
8.  Avocado
9.  Backspacer
10.  Lightning Bolt

I'd say the top 3 are very set in stone for me, but the order of the others could shift around.

Something I've said to friends and some people on here before (APR) is how much Pearl Jam feels to me like the modern day equivalent of the Grateful Dead.

I know the music is completely different, but what feels similar is the feeling and love they incite from a crowd, how distinct and unique they make each show, and the willingness of their hardcore fans to travel to multiple shows (due to the previous point).

Maybe one other similarity they have to the Grateful Dead is how so much of their magic seems to be as a live band and something they really can't capture in a studio.  They were able to make some great albums when they were young and had something to prove (like Ten and Vs.) or when they were freaking out over how huge they had become (like Vitalogy and No Code).  To me, though, they don't seem to be able to make a great album post-2000.  All the records have some great songs, but none seem to reach the peak of the earlier stuff in terms of whole albums.
My heart can't wait to meet you on the other side.

APR

I've thought about rating all of their albums, and this time I really tried so 6306 could avoid his term paper.   This is as close as I'm gonna get to ranking their albums.

1.  No Code
2-4.  Vitalogy, Ten, Versus
5-7. Binaural, Riot Act, Avocado
8. Yield
9.  Backspacer
10. Lightening Bolt

If you pick 10-12 songs from Lost Dogs, there's a top 4 album as well.  Unlike most PJ fans, I don't love Yield.  But I do like Riot Act a lot!

I agree with Mr. Whippy that I don't think they can ever top their early work when considering an album from front to back.  But Unthought Known and Getaway are right up there at the top in my opinion as some of PJ's great, great songs.

Yield at 8 is just wrong.
That's motherfuckin' John Oates!

This is an impossible task but here goes (i'll also list my 3 favorite tracks from each):
1. No Code (Present Tense, In My Tree, Red Mosquito)
2. Yield (Given to Fly, Do The Evolution, Smile)
3. Ten (Release, Black, Porch)
4. Vitalogy (Immortality, Not For You, Corduroy)
5. Riot Act (Save You, I am Mine, All or None)
6. Vs. (Animal, Indifference, Rearview Mirror)
6. Binaural (Nothing As it Seems, Of the Girl, Light Years)
7. Lightning Bolt (Getaway, Pendulum, Infallible)
8. S/T (Inside Job, Come Back, Severed Hand)
9. Backspacer (Unthought Known, Force of Nature, Got Some)

And yes, Lost Dogs is a ridiculously good album for B-sides.  My 3 favorites from LD are: Footsteps, Wash, Strangest Tribe)

God I love this band

APR

In case anyone missed it, they will be headlining Austin City Limits in Oct.  They're playing both weekends so I can't imagine they won't do any of their own shows between those weekends and before/after those weekends.

Ob1jacobe

I'm really hopping to make it to ACL.  I would love to see Pearl Jam in this kind of environment.  I would do my best to get up as close as possible.

This is pretty much how I would list them too. Looks like a tour announcement coming in the next week. Hoping to squeeze a show in along with both acl shows.

I would have been about the same but with Yield  a little lower down.  However, i revisited that album last night and this morning and man is it good!  It might be moving up my list and is my latest musical obsession.

I need to start working on my Pearl Jam Vinyl collection too.

I am overjoyed, but also financially despondent at this news. A date within driving distance seems virtually guaranteed. And I've got a NO PASSING UP PEARL JAM IF THEY'RE IN DRIVING DISTANCE radius clause. I can't handle all these sweet concerts! But I also can't miss 'em.

Countdown is on!

e_wind

I'm so happy. I'm hitting St Louis and Cinci for sure. We'll see about finances, but I'm considering Moline and/or Memphis as well.
don't rock bottom, just listen just slow down...

This would be my list, too, except switch No Code and Yield

I'm leaning towards Memphis.  Partly because it's a city I've never been to and would like to check out.  And also PJ usually gets better and the shows get longer later in the tour.

I like the odds calculation they added when you enter for tickets.  Thanks to the 10 Club for that.

APR

Anyone get tickets for any of the fall dates?  I'm in for Memphis.

e_wind

I'm definitely in for Cinci and St Louis. Got tickets right at 10 yesterday.

slappymoe

i'll be in st. louis.  excruciating 25-minute wait while the ticketmaster system was "searching for tickets."  got 2 really good seats, though.   cincy is obviously closer, but wednesday makes it a no-go.  pretty disappointed that the Yum! center couldn't land one of the shows.

never been west of owensboro, looking forward to the trip and the show.

no, was tempted but most of the shows were too far from me and money is tight
