Title: My review of Circuital
Post by: el_chode on Mar 14, 2011, 05:14 PM
So I've listened to the album (mentally) and here are my thoughts: There's not enough reverb. The band has sold out. The songs are all boring. I rank this slightly above EU and very below Z. This is just made for college kids to smoke bongs to. It's really just an album for my mom to listen to at Kohls. They're just not into it anymore. If I were in the band, I could have and would have done it differently, and therefore better. There's not enough guitar on track 5. I don't under stand the songs. And why is every song about Obama? It makes me fall asleep during the middle 4 tracks because they're too slow. Where is this album's Off the Record?

I think I'll just stick to my Terminal 5 Vinyl Picture Disc Box set and remember the band that I used to love.

I think I'm going to leave the boards for a bit.

I disagree with all of this (sorry)

Plus, you didn't even mention Bo's 23 minute keyboard solo on the song Fetcher's Lament

You just disagree because you're a n00b. I've been a fan since before Kentucky was a state, so I'm obviously way more correct.

I just googled Fetcher's Lament and sure as hell on page 4, there's a mention of Bo's monsterous keyboard solo! :o

um...first off "El Chode", if that's even your real name.  The album isn't even out yet, which leads me believe that your review was not only apocryphal & fictitious but also extremely ambiguous.

secondly, Tracy - you stated Bo had a 23 Min SOLO?!?!?! - I am hesitant to accept your claim seeing as how Jim & The Gang have stated that the album is around 50 min long - thus making the rest of the 11 songs an avg. of 3min a piece.  Just doesn't add up.

Thirdly Ms. Sara Banana Bear - I've looked everywhere on the web and have found NOTHING of your said "Sweedish" album.  If you send me over your memorandums, I would love to consider their authenticity.

COME ONE PEOPLE - let's get our facts straight and start to take this forum a little more SERIOUSLY.  A little less fun, and a little more earnestness please.

And I can't believe you would even bother to listen to it before it was officially released by the band?  You are an awful person and should probably be tortured.  Talking about an album before it is released is so mean and spiteful.  Go to timeout.

Well you see there's a perfectly good explanation! Since we Swedes dislike music piracy above all things, in an effort to try and stop it we've decided not to sell or distribute any music online. The Swedish government has even started a campaign to enforce this called "digital be gone" and hence the album is only available in physical form, in Sweden. I have a copy right here in my hand, but I cannot take a digital photograph of it, since regretfully digital photographs of music is also forbidden... However I could mail you a physical so called non-digital copy if you'd like?

totally agree.  I really can't believe how bad this album turned out.  "ooh let's do it in a church because we love god so much".  give me a break.  this whole super christian thing Jim is pulling really feels to me like an ego trip, I think he thinks he's jesus or god or something.  The lyrics were pretty horrible too.  Bo is WAY too loud in the mix and patrick really sounds like he's just phoning it in.  I expected more from these guys but I guess hard drugs have finally taken the priority over good art.  tis a shame.  talk about a peanut butter pudding surprise with turds on top.  2/10.

The thing I came away with was I just don't see these songs translating very well when played live.  That being said, that song Yim wrote for "Spiderman - Turn Off the Dark"  (but somehow rejected by Bono) does rock, can't see why that didn't make the musical.

One question, was it in bad taste to sample Ethel Merman so much?

I can't believe no-one has mentioned the bagpipe jam at the end of track 10.  I hate bagpipes, and this sequence almost ruined the whole album for me.  It was only the choral interlude at the end of the first side, sung by miniature YY clones, which rescued it from disaster.

I liked the bagpipes, but maybe that's just me.

On a different note, has anyone tried playing it backwards yet?  If so, anyone actually going to follow the directions?  I mean I like the band and all, but that seems a little extreme.

You have to start it on the stovetop, and finish in the oven. What temp did you have it on? Going by the spoken word riddle buried in the mix on victory dance, I think I've got it down.

I was just thinking whether it was too much info. :-\  Thanks for the link for sure Dills.

And yes, that is the best 1st track name ever.

I was having that reaction too.   After such little info (even track names hard to come by) it was a bit of overload just have all that there.   But I guess we'd better get used to it - first of many I'm sure.

I had to stop myself from reading it.  The reviewer must have confused Circuital with some other album.  I want to hear more about the Circuital we all know and love.

So Im Confused? Or maybe I'm on of those RATARDS?  But where the hell did you guys get the album already?

On another note: Read the tracklist, and not happy about Friends Again gettin da boot!  It sucks when this song and songs like Oxen get shelved and unless your a fan won't ever be heard by the world.

My bad guys.  I shouldn't have responded in this thread.  Erykah Badu adding vocal flourishes to the otherwise middling track Cornelius Abercrombie was much needed.

I left it in until the cheese turned golden-brown, but it still tasted undercooked. Maybe I'll try again.

You have to start it on the stovetop, and finish in the oven. What temp did you have it on? Going by the spoken word riddle buried in the mix on victory dance, I think I've got it down.
so i'm pretty sure i misinterpreted something...i've been using a turkey fryer this whole time...

on a side note...i read the review and now i kind of wish i hadn't looked at it...it does get me pumped about hearing victory dance though

Might be a good thing, meaning the rest of the album is just that good (though Id personally rather have it on there over Wonderful).

Also, Im kind of glad I read that article drunk last nite...I dont remember much outside of most of it sounding jawesome

If at any point any of this thread has disappointed you, remember that it was "premised on a lie and at no point can you really be sure you know what you've read."

Those are the lyrics from Slow Slow Tune

I don't want to ruin the adventure, but if you want the studio Friends Again, it involves planting the bookmark.
