Title: Record Store Day 2011 anyone?
Post by: Im The Dude on Apr 12, 2011, 10:12 AM
So this saturday is Record Store Day...http://www.recordstoreday.com (http://www.recordstoreday.com)

This is one of the best days of the year!(next to may 31st!) If you love vinyl, rare cds and supporting your locally owned record/music store this day is for you. Is anyone going this saturday? If so, which store you hitting up? Any specials you trying to get?

I plan on going to Jerry's Records in Pittsburgh, though they don't sale new vinyl they got some great deals this saturday. www.jerrysrecords.com (http://www.jerrysrecords.com)

In addition to the MMJ stuff, I hope I find a Pink Floyd London 66-67 and the Ryan Adams single.

ah yes I forgot about the ryan adams single. I've put a 150$ limit on myself though after todays circuital activities.

That leads me to this question.. how much do yall think the Pic Disks will be?

I saw a record store day order form that had each one priced at 35 or 36 bucks.  So, you're looking at dropping more than a C-note for all 3.  Expensive week to be a MMJ fan.

The only thing I ordered is the Ryan Adams single. RSD always comes when im broke for some reason.

He's opening for the Decemberist at their Pittsburgh show.

Did anyone ever go to a Record Store Day event?

Did anyone see that MMJ is doing a signing in Lexington for the single? I saw it on the RSD site!

I will be working rsd at the crack of eight. The mmj pic discs and the fleet foxes single are on my list. Is the MMJ single only in kentucky?

yessir.

I live in Louisville, so I could just mosey on down to ear-x-tacy to get my RSD gear. But wouldn't it be nice to have an AUTOGRAPHED circuital single. The only thing stopping me is driving to lexington twice in one day. I've dropped 190$ on MMJ gear today (circuital delux + first addition of AD vinyl + Run Thru 7" + off the record 7") and will be dropping at LEAST 120$ on saturday. an extra 30$ of gas money is not what I need.

I'm out of the country, (never mind I don't even live in Kentucky,) could anyone buy the two record store day single releases on vinyl for me?  I am totally down to return the favor and I have a couple rare 7" if you want to trade.  PM me, thanks!

My friends and take this day very seriously.  We have groups or three or four people going to different locations and trying to grab as much as possible.  Really hoping to get the White Stripes first singles on 7".

you are my hero!! spending money on music, particularly vinyl is how I like to spend my hard earned cash.  My wife spends it on shoes-- for me, it's all about the music.  The only thing that I look forward to more than Record Store Day is any day that I will be seeing MMJ live in concert.  Looking forward to Saturday morning ....

I intend on hitting up Sound Garden and Il Suprimo, both in Baltimore.  I figure in in all likelihood, I won't get my hands on the MMJ picture discs.  At the very least, I intend to grab the Flaming Lips' Heady Nuggs box set and Mastodon's Live at the Aragon for my girlfriend.

Happy Record Store Day everyone!

Hooray for Record Store Day! My shop is Guestroom Records in Oklahoma City. I could barely carry all of the stuff I hauled away from two trips in last year, and this time I'm trying to limit the list I want going in. I'm not much of a picture disk guy, but if I see them it's going to be hard to resist. And I might have to snag those Ozzy records...

Yeah! I almost shit myself when I saw Big Star, but I wish it was No. 1 Record.

Oh, I also want the Ray LaMontagne record. And the Midlake thing. Fleet Foxes, and Ryan Adams, of course. Kate Bush! Black Angels! I know setting a spending limit will do no good, because it goes right out the window on these trips. That's why God invented credit!

I managed to pre-order the Justin Townes Earle single from a record store in Denver CO and our local store gave my sister the Foo Fighters RSD release for free. They had no MMJ, PJ or Tom Petty but a good day none the less.

Sorry to burst a bubble, but Guestroom only had one set of the pic discs and I bought all 3. The guys that run the store weren't real happy that I got all 3. I picked up the new Ryan Adams 7" along with the White Stripes 7"s and some more stuff. Stood in line for 2 1/2 hours but it was worth it!

Went to 3 stores this morning and only was able to grab It Still Moves.  BUT, I got 2 copies of it! SO if anyone has an extra Z or EU, I will happily trade.   :)

Sorry to hear that Vespa.  I guess I'm sorta in the same boat.  Got a late start this morning after a long night last night but managed to score EU and ISM as well as Mastodon's Live at the Aragon, Flaming Lips' Heady Nuggs and a sweet score by my girlfriend of Baroness' 1st and 2nd EPS.

So...if anyone has like a couple of Z's lying around. ;D

Wow!  Somebody in line with us was talking about he liked the particluar record store because they adhere to the "Record Store Day" pact of not jacking up prices or allowing employees to pick through the stock before the public gets a chance.  I guess it pays to know your store policies.

Bruce Springsteen - Greetings from Asbury Park, N.J.
Bruce Springsteen - The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle
Hunters and Collectors - Human Frailty
Hunters and Collectors - Fate
Pretenders - EP ('81)

Plus, a sealed box of 100 albums that they were giving away at Jerrys Records. I found a few good ones and some not so good but it was free and my money went to a great store.

Nice haul Crispy!  I snagged Heady Nuggs too though I was contemplating the special edition only available through their website.  Glad you got that Black Angels.  I was only familiar with Phosphene Dream til recently when my best buddy started introducing me to their back catalog.  Amazing!  I like most of it better than Phospene.

NICE -- AM is my favorite, it brings back those memories.

I would have passed on the Flaming Lips box if I had any of those records already, but amazingly, I didn't. There's a special edition on the website? DAMMIT, colored vinyl! Oh well, I guess I'm okay with the record store getting something out of the deal. MMJ better not do this with the T5 box set...

I got Passover the year it was released, embarrassingly at a Starbucks. But holy shit, it blew me away -- I can't believe it's taken me this long to get the vinyl. Their stuff since is good, but doesn't hit me like the first one. I'm seeing them here, with Sleepy Sun, when all of you lucky bastards will be on the beach with MMJ. Short shrift, but at least it's something.

Wish I had gotten the Emmy and Gram b/w those hipsters...I am a big Jenny Lewis fan, however.

Constant Stream of Holy Fuck!  Don't tell anyone else but I'd rather see Sleepy Sun open for the Angels in a small club anyday! :D

:o Bite your tongue, sir! (I feel the same way about festivals, btw)  ::)

I am truly looking forward to that show in a BIG way, I've been wanting to see both for a long time. Only trouble is that apparently the chick in Sleepy Sun is no longer with them. I has a sad about that, she kicks ass on those records.

Bought the Yim Yames "Tribute To" EP and Wilco's "AM" on vinyl today.

NICE -- AM is my favorite, it brings back those memories.

I'm gonna see the Black Angels on Friday.  Great to hear the other albums are good.  I love Phosphene Dream but have not heard anything else.

Hope to see Sleepy Sun at LouFest.  No female singer?  That sucks.

Oh hi, I'm seeing that Black Angels/Sleepy Sun bill tomorrow.  Nice taste, y'all

I started RSD'ing around 1am last night, post-show. Didn't get any official RSD stuff but got the new White Mystery record and the new Numero compilation Pressed at Boddie a little early.  Also got a Woodsman record and Willie Nelson's Always On My Mind which it turns out I already own :P  Oh, and a sweet goodie bag with a Daptone sampler and a frisbee.

In the morning I hit two stores but didn't really find what I wanted, so I just got the Vanguard psychedelic compilation and the Dennis Coffey 7" (which the store owner threw in for free 'cause he likes me).  ;)

Overall I'm pleased, I guess.

I still buy CDs (and new vinyl) and do so at indie record stores, so this day is just another day for me - but it is a good idea.

As do I. It was nice to have a band lineup (and free tacos!  ;D) At my local store. The exclusive shit is cool too.

Same here.  In fact, I stopped by a place in Mass. on my way home from visiting my Dad, thinking "hey, its Record Store Day!  Let's see what they've got."  Turned out they don't participate 'cause they only sell used vinyl, CDs, books, etc.  Place is called Rabbit Hole.

I scored some interesting discs for $46, all in excellent shape:

Bright Eyes- A Collection of Songs '95-'97
Better Than Ezra- Deluxe
Sugar- Besides
Bob Dylan- Tell Tale Signs, Bootleg Series Vol. 8
Beck- The Information
Blues Traveler- Straight On Till Morning
Blues Traveler- self-titled debut

I guess I spent most of my time in the B section, huh?   ;D

Don't get your hopes too high for the bright eyes, its pretty meh. It has its bright (see what I did there?) spots. Better than most 15 year olds write though. Falling out of love at this volume (which he still plays live), Feb. 15th, and a celebration upon completion are highlights off hand.

Yeah, I already gave it a listen.  Its exactly what I expected, which is fine for a few bucks.  I gathered by that date range it was his puberty album.  Still, not bad as a historical document.

I've given each CD a brief spin and the Beck comes with a DVD I've yet to play.  The Dylan is a hefty collection of "rare and unreleased".  I actually just say Blues Traveler last year and was happy to add 2 more titles to my BT collection.  The brief spin of Sugar's "Besides" was a nice add after hearing Bob Mould's contribution on the new Foo Fighters release.

Of the 3 songs I mentioned, you could find a live version of A Celebration...from the 04 mof tour (its actually pretty great), A better version of Feb 15th is on noise floor and either the studio version or a live version of Falling out of love.
