Title: My Morning Jacket, let me write your setlists...
Post by: Sticky Icky Green Stuff on Sep 12, 2012, 10:59 PM
give me three shows, I will change the way you look at your music.  trust me like i trust you.  have CC message me if you're interested.  and patrick, stop tweeting me pics of your chest.

I know you're not suppose to negotiate with "God" and whatever, but fuck that shit, i've studied your band, I understand the feelings you crave.  if you want more chills, more dopamine flowing from your brains allow me the honor.

I would now kindly like to ask for the support of my fellow fans,

"i can see it...all. by the way you smile. i'm smiling too! i see myself in you."

Ok, stick, but you seriously don't think the past two nights' setlists weren't insane? Cause I'm going to disagree with you mightily on that.

Pearl Jam has done that once in 21 years of being a 'major' band. Its not that I don't think your could do it better than anyone else, I just don't see it happening

And Pearl Jam did 93 songs over 3 nights.  I think MMJ is only at 44 after two.  I think they are doing great, but wished they playing a bit longer.  But I give them major props for attempting to do it twice in a 3 month span.

night 1 was pretty solid, night 2 was okay, i could write better sets in my sleep.  it's what I do.  that and masturbate.

2 nights at Red Rocks had way more than 44 songs - 57 or 58?

Yeah, between the 2 nights and the soundcheck it was 61 or 62 songs. So 58 or 59. I know that RRshows were longer than usual, though.

pjfan, are we talking about the same thing? I'm talking about when they let that guy who was in the Mother Love Bone fan club ----> currently still in 10Club write their setlists for one of this years ansterdams shows. Eddie playe Bugs accoustically because he said it was the only song he had never seen them play from a studio album.

I thought it was a 2 night run, which is why I question if we're talking about the same thing.

Were you there for night 2? OK is not an appropriate description. Looking at a list on paper means nothing. It was an unbelievable show. Ask anyone who was ACTUALLY THERE.

My bad, we are not.  I was referring to PJ's 3 night run in Mansfield in '03 where they didn't repeat a song for 3 nights (except for YL to close the last night).

I get what you are saying now, with the old time TC member writing the setlist. And I thought he did a great job!

Sticky, didn't you already write some sample setlists?

Here's what I requested for the Greek.  Personally, I think I did a fantastic job, but I am sure you will have some mehs (Circuital, VD, Rocket Man, etc).  But I thought I was being semi-realistic with this list:

Soundcheck:
Old September Blues
Knot Comes Loose
Sooner
I Will Be There When You Die
Death Is the Easy Way

One Big Holiday
Tonight I Want To Celebrate With You
Circuital
Xmas Curtain
Master Plan
Easy Morning Rebel
Heartbreakin Man
Tyrone
War Begun
Lowdown
O Is the One that Is Real
Rollin Back
It's About Twilight Now
Evil Urges
I Will Sing You Songs
Strangulation
Smokin From Shootin
Run Thru
I Think I'm Going to Hell
A Quick One While He's Away
Cobra
Gideon

Hopefully
At Dawn
Rocket Man
Victory Dance
Lay Low
Mahgeetah
Rock the Casbah
Remnants

EDIT: Forgot Phone Went West! Needs to be in there, too.
EDIT #2: And Oh! Sweet Nuthin'

No rules, just impress us with your set writing skillz. I'm not sure I want to see proof of that other thing you do😷

well that leaves me with a dilemma fully, if I only write one set it's kind of pointless.  I think I'll write a two night stand followed by 3 nights of regular shows.  just for a taste.  it gets more fun the more you make.

i might retire some songs that are popular.

well you can always make one supreme show, I guess the bad asses can do amazing tours (ala phish 97 na whut I mean?).  it was hard as fuck to keep it fresh for 5shows with their catalog.  I felt my own tendencies with song placement starting to form and I don't even play the shit.

Tweet? Wtf is that? I don't play that.  Seems kinda self absorbed to me. I really don't care to know what people are doing every second, nor do I think they'll give a shit what I'm doing.   I'll definitely post in the other forum for you though.

As far as your setlists they're good. It's just night 1 was my favorite, and that encore could not be topped. Seemed lik a great way to end a run.

MMJ has to be the easiest band to write a set list for. Not only do the boys have one of the sickest library of songs to choose from, but you also have the best musicians playing them. You could have them cover a whole show of Britney Spear and it would sound better than any of these set lists...
My point is that it does not matter what they play, but how they play it.

....you have been given this gift of wisdom...it is now up to you to see what you do with it...

I'm not only offended by your comment but driven to madness and insanity by it.  your absurdity of comparing britney to mmj is making me lol like a jerk off.  lol.  if they have such a bitching library, why, even when they allow the fans to help write the sets do they only play like 50songs of that catalog and even less on a regular basis?  I think it's insecurities.  bluesky I've got a browneye for ya.

Bluesky is not me...but thanks for the honor of mistaking me for Val.

I see that your arrogance has covered your eyes...

The beauty of MMJ isn't in their setlists...but the way that they perform the setlist. The effort & skill they put into their music takes much time and perfection. If they were to try to play every single song they know...the set list would look cool on paper (as yours do), but they might not sounds as good. The reason I love these guys is because of the quality of the music, not the quality of the set list.

Sticky...no matter what I say...the only thing that matters is that MMJ kicks ass!

I'm dyslexic,  all of you guys are the same.  all the people who are opposed to descent.  they are fun musicians.  that's the key word.  fun.  if we want to get into musicianship we can but that's not the point of this thread.

The beauty of all music is being surprised.  being setback.  this attempt to understand what said band is doing.  it's subconscious.  I have figured out the patterns of this band and they smack me in my face.  it happens, but they should be smarter than me.  I should not be able to predict their next move.  for the last couple years it's been binary as fuck.  until this tour.   they play their music really well and yeah it's hard to remember an entire catalog, but then again, that's what we pay for.  especially if they want to make it a thing to get tickets early, get backstage for "special" soundcheck things, etc.

it's sort of a put up or shut up thing for me.  jim always talks about wanting it to be the ultimate, I think jazzfest was their lowest point in years but they're bouncing back.  they need to find some sort of consistency while not repeating or becoming a parody of themselves.

/end rant.

I like night 2 the best. Now do it with no repeats. Let's make this a challenge. At least one Circuital song on each list. Four night include known covers.

Night 2 - opening with Golden is a great idea, but night 3 - opening with Hot BM>Outta My System is not good. It does get them outta the way, but I think those two songs shouldn't be back to back. I really like your ending for night four though. I think it would slay the crowd.

That night 4 encore would be epic. And to go from the emotion of Dondante into I Will Be There When You Die to wrap -- wow.

with 4 sets of no repeats it gets hard.  you're welcome to try.

I don't write setlists, I just judge them. That's my specialty: being all judgey. No I just wouldnot put both of those songs right beside each other. Probably because I feel very similarly about them. I would want a break from that feeling. I am ok with them while I'm hearing them, but I don't really like to hear either one of them. But I'm good with the rest of it. There, Stick, now I'm done being judgey.

Note I refrained from making a tired "that's what she said" joke. It's all about restraint.

well these sets aren't about what you or I like.  they're suppose to cover the gamut of fans and their different tastes.  while not using a single repeat.  you pretty much have to use every single song they've released and cram it with covers and b-sides.  I think the only songs I didn't end up using were some of the super super super slow ones.  the sets would be borderline acoustic shows if you didn't put stuff like holdin on to blackmetal or outta my system in there, which you said I had to use.

you fans do nothing but bitch.  you're never happy.

also if anybody else wants to do this, it's best to do all 4shows at once, give each show a song one at a time so they're even vibe wise somewhat with rarities and rockers, then sorta re-arrange it afterwards.

with added covers and random songs the songs only clock in at about 22songs per show.  would love to see what others come up with.

Piece of cake. Take the T5 setlists, add in Circuital, and viola, plenty of tunes!  Creating four seperate good flowing shows is another story, but definitely enough material to work with.

not really that easy.  T5 shows seemed short in nature.  lots and lots of covers too.  those 4shows are essentially every song they've released minus the chapter 1 & 2 b-sides, butch cassidy, if all else fails, I needed it most, holy, and a couple other random tunes.  aren't jacket shows generally 24songs-ish?

Yes they are. I believe T5 was 99 songs, and figured if you add Circuital, and a couple of the covers not done there, you would have more than enough to choose from to do four shows. Like I said, getting them to work well, and flow is another story.

18. Tonite I Want To Celebrate With You
19. Oh! Sweet Nuthin (The Velvet Underground)
20. Hot Fun In The Summertime (Sly & The Family Stone)
21. Carnival Time (Al Johnson)
22. Move On Up (Curtis Mayfield)

14. How The Gods Kill (Danzig, last played 2002)
15. O Is The One That is Real
16. Come Closer (2004)
17. Miss You (The Rolling Stones, last played 2000)

19. Tyrone (Erykah Badu)
20. White Rabbit (The Great Society)
21. Hot Legs (Rod Stewart, last played 2000)
22. Lil Billy (last played 2002)

How Do You Know
Hit It and Quit It (Funkadelic cover)
A Quick One, While He's Away (The Who cover)
I Could Never Take the Place of Your Man (Prince cover)
Careless Whisper (Wham! cover)

13. Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You (Bob Dylan, last played 2007)
14. How Could I Know (last played 2007)
15. Sooner
16. Head Held High (The Velvet Underground, last played 2006)
17. It Makes No Difference (The Band)
18. All Night Long (Lionel Richie, last played 2006)

those are all the T-5 encores.  like I said, they're shorter shows and dense with covers.  4+ covers is a lot.  I only used 2 a show I think.  there aren't enough good songs to do four straight, regular, jacket tour style shows without repeats well.  unless you're down with one being a total snoozefest.

I'm not taking back anything, I never said every show had to be totally different songs, I just wanted them to mix it up.  ie: random openers, not closing with smokin/touch pt2 every show, interesting encores, etc.   shuffling the songs order up is all I've ever bitched about when they throw in deep cuts.  every show i've ever been to I've gotten a song or two I've never heard them play before, so that's cool.  it's just happening less and less the more I see them, thus I need them to shuffle it up for my own personal, sexual needs and desires.  you're a fucking slut eric, don't step to me.

and Sticky, that was a alright setlist.

I think show 1 you have listed is a fucking snoozefest.  sure there's deep cuts but there's no balance.  I left out two fucking albums and still have a genuine flow.

show 2 is cover heavy with covers they've done to death.  not to mention subpar intermediary songs.  night two's songs dont suck but their placement does.

show 3 would be fun but I'd definitely take a piss during don't fear the reaper.

i could go on about how one song should be switched with another for better "placement", or that you'd end with that encore. though good, nothing about it excites me. and i didn't know i was supposed to judge your multiple night setlist, but i will pass on that.

so instead of taking a piss during (or on) your set i will just go grab a slice of pizza and enjoy mine, in all its jacket-ness

what's the matter? not enough evil urges or circuital tunes for ya n00b?

you're going to dis on me for my encore?  i would be pissed if I got any of the encores you posted.  all three blow.  all three are generic.  same with the style of your setlists in general.

the only reason you think it's top heavy if because you're conditioned to think run thru deserves to close every show.  it's not top heavy at all.  it's rock heavy.  the flow is perfect if you know anything about putting on a live show, which I assume you don't.

the first three songs run thru(rock fest, hello audience), lay low (see run thru isn't our only rock masterpiece), then phone went west after they're warmed up and ready to jam on a nice, 15-20minute version.  then you settle things down with the bear for a song, which would be a treat no matter the placement.  then I will sing you songs to slowly build back up the momentum up again.  once the song peaks at the end it makes for a perfect segue into one big holiday which would re-hype all the n00bs like you.

then after the n00bs are satisfied we start dipping into the deep cuts.  Cobra funks the mood out, lightens it back up a bit to give them the ability to start phase 2.

by this time the sun should be down and it's about twilight would hit you with synchronicity.  it will bind you with the earth.  then when the n00bs start talking, "Everybody's Talkin' to get people back into the palm of their hands, and more important to shut up the idiots.  then a nice merge into an extremely dark dondante->war begun.  what's the problem with that?  then lil billy to keep the energy up and fanboys boners hard.

gideon until steam engine is a flawless flow and if you think those songs are low energy you know absolutely nothing about this band.

my covers are two of the most rare covers they've ever played.  my choices are better than yours.  and to be honest there aren't many redeeming or having factors about your sets.  you're just regurgitating what the bands already done.

what's the matter? not enough evil urges or circuital tunes for ya n00b?

you're going to dis on me for my encore?  i would be pissed if I got any of the encores you posted.  all three blow.  all three are generic.  same with the style of your setlists in general.

the only reason you think it's top heavy if because you're conditioned to think run thru deserves to close every show.  it's not top heavy at all.  it's rock heavy.  the flow is perfect if you know anything about putting on a live show, which I assume you don't.

the first three songs run thru(rock fest, hello audience), lay low (see run thru isn't our only rock masterpiece), then phone went west after they're warmed up and ready to jam on a nice, 15-20minute version.  then you settle things down with the bear for a song, which would be a treat no matter the placement.  then I will sing you songs to slowly build back up the momentum up again.  once the song peaks at the end it makes for a perfect segue into one big holiday which would re-hype all the n00bs like you.

then after the n00bs are satisfied we start dipping into the deep cuts.

"my covers are two of the most rare covers they've ever played.  my choices are better than yours."

...and to be fair, even though you will hate it for the non-redeeming factors, and just cause you lame. but here would be my one show setlist with the same number of songs as yours,:

i am glad you liked my setlist so much. i will agree with you that mine was a little bit superior to yours, that was gracious of you. thank you for understanding that although you have a passion for setlists, you don't know shit and pretty much talk out your ass because my morning jacket can make almost any song work together and blend with the next so naturally. they bring the humor and funk to their shows which makes every song more alive. so i just appreciate the gratitude you have showed when looking at my setlist and asking for MORE COWBELL, cause once we get enough cowbell then all the gods will be dead.  thank you for taking all my complaints into consideration and being open to a dialogue. hopefully one day you will get to see the jacket, but i pray for the other fans involved that that day never comes.

what the fuck are you? a bad will ferrell joke from the 90's?  and please do not put words in my mouth, your setlists are horrible and your fluff is more obvious than the last time your mom was horny and I let her suck my dick.

i know a will farrell joke isn't as funny as your setlists, but thank you for giving the forgotten 90s film career of will farrell its recognition. classics like superstar, dick, a night at the roxbury and not just one but two austin power movies need their day in the sun. i am not able to recognize the jab of my fluff being relative to my mother's horniness.

i hope for all the members on this forum that you start listening to my morning jacket, stop pooping in your clothing and try to write simple succinct messages which clearly have a message and aren't laced with profanity.

p.s. - i apologize in advance for putting the movie title, "dick" but it is a will farrell classic and i wanted to acknowledge Sticky Icky Green Stuff's love of this beloved comedic figure.

it is rude when you don't finish your sentences, you meant to say, "my work here is done at creating setlists and inflating the value of said setlist because i have issues dealing with people and places"

could always use MORE COWBELL!!!!!!!!!

so the cowbell is related to you then? cause you seem like just an instrument, and i think everyone will agree to the description of both "the most obnoxious and lame" ... "in the history of mankind".

so maybe you are just to close to the cowbell to really enjoy it. so it would be better for everyone if you just left for the last song on my encore so everyone can enjoy.

RDist52, I have a hard time believing that you wouldn't get at least a little bit excited for just 1 or 2 of the songs Sticky listed in his encore, let alone having all of them back to back to back and ending a show.

they are good. i mean, i am a fan that believes there are many ways to a great set by the jacket. i enjoy the songs, but i just feel like honest man -> how the gods kill is a let down. first off, i feel like it should be honest man -> anytime. because i have been listening to the red rocks live version of honest man, and although it rocks hard it would be like continuous punches and then anytime is a big ass party. and then i was not really familiar to how the gods kill before, but listened to it on youtube from the terminal 5 show and it sounds like a big let down after those two songs especially. even at terminal 5 they opened the encore with it. i just thought if this was his big, ultimate setlist it was good but not amazing. felt too rigid to the structure of this must fit to this song when it is all about the fun and excitement.

i *profanity* understand it is danzig *profanity*

either you're 3years old, a priest, or just a dumb fucking retard.  they're words dude.  get over it.

you must be will farrell, cause i feel like with that group of people you are about to make a joke. but i know you will just curse, say how much you love poetry and danzig.

i am guessing i am all three....

see, when you make a stupid joke about will ferrell, and it is a stupid joke, I'm not sure how to respond.  you tried taking over my thread with shitty setlists and lost.  yac busts loads to the simple sight of MMJ so impressing him isn't hard.

i am not sure how one loses a thread like this, i understand your hatred towards good setlists. and mine was pretty darn good (i don't like to brag). it sounds to me more like you just don't appreciate my morning jacket, because i didn't put either holdin' on to black metal or golden in my setlist. so i am getting to point where i believe you just can't read, or atleast understand simple sentence structurce. your only skill in life is looking at names of songs and arranging them to your ideal structure. then when other people make lists that aren't yours you get furious. even though these lists unlock happiness that is only relative to the personal my morning jacket listener. so flaws always can be noted, each person can improve or find new ways to unlock that happiness.

we quantify the amount of smoking based on the lack of coherence you and your innate reasoning for what makes a good setlist. you can complain, curse, hide behind will farrell all you like. and now hope that the fledgling use of the democratic process will be your savior. either way the people win.

you are correct i signed up for the forums about a week ago, but have been posting on the Spontaneous Curation Series on a regular basis. so i thought when looking through these forums the setlist thread looked interesting. but hadn't posted before, so had to sign up and then decided to post my submissions. i have done nothing but let my setlists speak for themselves, you have to have the patients to let people other than yourself comment on setlists. i know the thread started with the idea that you could create much better setlists than my morning jacket themselves, but it is more about the input and the reaction from those in the forum. in your explanation you pretty much divide everyone into sections based on true fans and the new ones, this is true to a point. but the jacket is more about the reaction of these songs hitting. and i believe in the greatness of my setlist. i have said nothing derogatory about you just was hoping to enjoy the thread and this community. and it has been fun.

there's nothing to let go of. RD, is a troll who signed up a week ago simply to talk shit in this thread.  it's obvious.  he's trolling in the weakest way too, pandering with sarcasm and niceness to try and get people on their side.  the dudes a douche and can suck my balls.

you are correct i signed up for the forums about a week ago, but have been posting on the Spontaneous Curation Series on a regular basis. so i thought when looking through these forums the setlist thread looked interesting. but hadn't posted before, so had to sign up and then decided to post my submissions. i have done nothing but let my setlists speak for themselves, you have to have the patients to let people other than yourself comment on setlists. i know the thread started with the idea that you could create much better setlists than my morning jacket themselves, but it is more about the input and the reaction from those in the forum. in your explanation you pretty much divide everyone into sections based on true fans and the new ones, this is true to a point. but the jacket is more about the reaction of these songs hitting. and i believe in the greatness of my setlist. i have said nothing derogatory about you just was hoping to enjoy the thread and this community. and it has been fun.

i didn't know my friends cost 40 dollars, interesting. and yes this is your thread, but you have a lack of depth that is my morning jacket. to imagine my morning jacket playing shows with no songs from their two most recent albums, well you must be stuck in the 90s watching some of your favorite movies. i myself have never asked for circuital songs. and i know you have an obsession with holdin' on to black metal because you keep on telling me to listen to it though it never makes its way into my setlist. and i hope you enjoy that camomile tea (after the beer), i am more of a green tea fan myself but with all the anger you put into those keys i think "a moment of calm" could do you well.

yes, i understand completely. and that won't stop me from creating setlists. i've been aware you didn't care even before i posted my setlist. so i am fine with you being a saucy forum member. i like how you gave up on the side by side comparison. i don't care if i win the votes, i just think it would be interesting to get more input than yours. cause i am not here to judge you, but i know that your perspective is skewed towards a personal gratification.

my setlist would destroy your setlist in a poll of true jacket fans.   that's just a fact.  the challenge is still on the table.

it's taken me 5years to get to know some of the people on this forum.  you've been here barely 5days,  your opinion is absolutely meaningless.  have you even seen the band yet more than once?

also, please tell me more about what I think and perceive.  after all, if anybody knows what kind of person I am it's you.  wait who the fuck are you?  oh yeah, just some custie ass bitch.  get bent.

coolio. well, i only thought it was fair since you were telling me all about what i am and what my mom likes to do. and i understand you have years on me and i am new to the forum, that isn't news to me. and maybe you would win in a poll, i like that it is open to what you describe as "true jacket fans". and yes, i have seen them live many times. i like that your shot at my setlist is attacking whether i have even seen the band. i am even going for the three night run in december. and you could only guess i am hoping for only circuital and evil urges

and i am still waiting for that offer of them being judged. and you are correct, why would i let you have the last word. i know this is your thread, but seriously you are no fun and were in need of somebody like me to keep the thread alive. ok, so you wrote your setlist. then setlists for multiple nights, a few people commented, then it would be done. but the true value is input, is connection to the community. because it is true that i am new here but what i know from shows is that my morning jacket fans are some of the best fans to be at shows with. so hope you have not read any of this because i know you don't care.... or maybe i am really you? Hmm. Mysteries of the internet.

young troll, do what you must.  but I have grown weary of your riddles and ways of twisted speech.   rarely do I travel to these parts westward of inner realm, and when I do I'm reminded of frailty of life.  how a fist can crush a face.  how an elbow can break a rib, or even a knee destroy a pair a nuts.  this power of force, of violence can and will destroy your words of temptation and slander.  your soul shall be drained of all emotion and the beast from thine hollow shall eat your heart.  where are your origins?  what bands led you here?

i never know with you if these are real questions to answer because when i do respond you complain that i am twisting your speech or taking away from the sanctity of your thread. and what has been stuck in my mind is you talk all this violence in your posts, but probably take a punch like danzig in real life.

so i guess now i understand the poetry of that last song in your setlist.

i never know with you if these are real questions to answer because when i do respond you complain that i am twisting your speech or taking away from the sanctity of your thread. and what has been stuck in my mind is you talk all this violence in your posts, but probably take a punch like danzig in real life.

so i guess now i understand the poetry of that last song in your setlist.

oh the young, your blood. so.. soft.

oh, sorry. i knew that was too easy. you kind of lead me into using that one. and i always thought of my blood as a consistency of chunky peanut butter. also it is kind of creepy you keep on refering to me as young. that might be another vibe you should keep to yourself...

I think it's about time you boys breakout the tape measures, and just settle this once, and for all.

because I obviously have the bigger cock?  it would be a waste of taxpayer money.

Quote of the night: "Take a punch like Danzig."

Truthfully, I find anything that references Danzig funny. Invoking Danzig is always an easy way to get me tickled.

Do you smell something? ...is that Sticky getting smoked...mmmm

Why does it matter how long you've been on this forum? Respect is not earned through seniority, but through action...or in this case text. Just looking at the way the two of you handle each other, I could have more respect for RDist52...if I was taking any of this seriously. I haven't even written a list; it just smells so good in here...;)

now only if you could work up the courage to say what you think to real people in real life.  to think, if you did that you might actually start to grow a personality.

...I'm confused...sorry...are you saying you're fake?

I took a break from the forum..."real life" got busy for awhile; you were using this forum & your posts to talk down to people back then...it's good too see your personality has grown so nicely...;)

no, i'm saying you wouldn't have the balls to dis me in real life because i'm ripped and my muscles bust thru my shirt. and because you're a p-u-s-s-y.

You are right...I am what I eat...;)
