Hope to see him in a smaller venue than Stubb's
I would assume it would be. I don't see him doing the same venue twice in a tour. Here's to hoping we can actually get into the show! If it's at a bar (afterhours), I will probably just go there at bar open and sit at the stage until he comes out.
Have you bought a badge/wristband?
what're the odds of not buying a pass and just catching random shows at different venues?

I think he may play a few times. I would guess 1 official showcase at something like the NPR showcase. Then maybe a day party or two. I don't think any will be that hard to get into with a badge or wristband. I wouldn't count on getting in by paying a cover at the door.

it all depends on the venue and who else is on the bill.
for quite a few of the showcases, from what I've heard, if you get there early you have a decent chance of getting in.
hopefully he plays a day party.
or maybe even the free sxsw show at Auditorium Shores (that everyone can get into).
2 years ago conor oberst played the free Auditorium Shores show.
last year M. Ward played it.
so it's not out of the realm of possibility that Jim plays it this year. (although since he's playing stubbs in may, he might not want to play such a big free show 2 months before).
one can hope though..
I could def see him being one f the Auditorium Shores shows. Day show would be awesome. I got a kiddo that would love to see him.
most of the show schedules were released today.
Jim James still has two showcases that are TBA.
that most likely either means Stubbs, ACL Live, or Auditorium Shores.
33% chance of a free one!
I can't say too much but I just heard that Jim is probably playing a party at a legendary Texas musicians ranch. Nothing finalized but start working your local connections.
Willie!
I got it on very good word that Jim is indeed going to be playing the free Auditorium Shores show on Friday night. Also on the bill, Divine fits, the new side project from britt daniel of spoon. i care nothing about that band. but Jim James at Aud shores will be awesome.
Don't know what time yet.
either 8 or 9 probably.
SXSW is shaping up QUITE nicely

This is good news.
Looks like Friday at 7
i really hope he plays at least a little later than 7.
i've got to see Emmylou Harris and Rodney Crowell at 6.
it'd be tough to get to Aud Shores in time.
SXSW should release the official times this week i think.
SX posted the schedule then took it down. Said 7.
shoot.
not the time slot i wanted him to have.
oh well.
i'll find a way.
thanks
Jim, Divine Fits and The Flaming Lips Friday night.
was just getting ready to post that.
have you seen official set times yet?
i just saw the SXSW press release, which didn't have times.
Gonna be a great time. Hope Jim sits in with The FLips for his track from Heady Fwends.

No. Lips are definitely headlining. My thought is Jim would go first since Divine Fits have a big Austin connection.
Looks like Jim will be doing an interview at the convention center. Don't know how that works if you dont have a badge/wristband. This will be my first SXSW experience.

Wondering too. Been to the last 15 SX's but never tried to go to one of these.
On Jim's site it had him listed in the middle for Friday night.
On the SXSW website it has this for access to the interview:
CREDENTIALS WITH ACCESS
Music Badge, Platinum Badge, Artist Wristband
ok, SXSW had indeed officially posted that Jim is playing from 7 to 7.40 on Friday.
Was hoping for a little later.
But maybe he'll get to play a little longer than 40 minutes if he starts at 7.
so i google mapped it, and i should have at least 15 minutes to get from my show before that to auditorium shores. and google maps says it's .9 miles to the show.
i can do it.
SX site has tba for him. Tba for the lips too. Divine fits at 6.
He's playing the Aquarium Drunkard party on the 13th too.
This will not suck!

tonight was fun, if not a tough room to work. they didn't hit until closer to 130am. band sounded much better than at early dates. 1/2 inch of water on the floor and 1 or 2 men's bathrooms flooded (other had you cross the asses-to-elbows crowd to get to it). i'm all for DIY, but working toilets ain't much to ask for...
psyched to Willie's Ranch!

Heartbreaker was awesome! Free booze was my downfall. Looking forward to tonight!
First off, Heartbreak Banquet was probably one of the coolest events I have ever been to. I wanted to send pic updates to y'all but my phone was dead early in the day. I am in the depths of one of the worst hangovers I have had in a long time so a full review wont come until later. Just wanted to throw a few observations out there.
-The album breaths so much more when played live.
-Whatever jam out they do at the end of the album was just something else
-I saw their setlist and they were going to do a 5 song encore of Jacket songs, no surprises on the selections.
-The MAN shut them down after the jam out. Don't know why.
-If anyone stayed after and hung out in the church, a man started doing faith healing with a bottle of tequila, until the MAN shut him down too.
I take it back about the encore not being completely surprising. They were going to do a cover of the Willie Nelson song, "Funny How Time Slips Away".. Other than that you would have had: Wonderful, Wordless Chorus, It Beats 4 Jew, TMP2, Victory Dance.
The MAN is always ruining things!

Jim has performed "Funny How Time Slips Away" in concert before, so it's not surprising that he'd plan to do it as a show of respect for Willie.
Someday, I'd like to see Jim and Willie sing together. It's one of my dream collabs.

Well before Wayne brought Jim out, he was telling the crowd Justin Timberlake was going to sing with him. Alas, all we got was Jim, how unfortunate for us
I'm going to throw this out there, but I really didn't care for the "duet" of Do you Realize? Mainly due to the fact that Jim really didn't sing anything but a few ooohs and ahhs, if that... Jim did creepily hold the baby though and Pat its head.
Which brings me to my next point, what the hell did I witness during the Flaming Lips show? A matrix baby (baby with tubes plugged in it), the tubes glowing, Wayne crying with the baby. I don't know what statement he was making, but I don't think I understood it or had enough drugs/booze in my system to begin to understand it. I dig the Flaming Lips, but the new album he played kind of sucked. I'm going to stop ranting now, mainly because I am still processing the things I witnessed.

Flaming Lips and Jim James - Do You Realize SXSW (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_o8oQLcSOUw#ws)

That's awesome. I would hope it would be the Heartbreak Banquet show at Willie Nelsons Ranch. Even though the show was forced to end by Johnny Law Dog, they played through the whole album which was amazing. The encore would have been awesome since it included a Willie Nelson cover, but like I said, they didn't get to do one.
I didn't see the hype hotel show, but I heard it was a quick show.
I did see the free Auditorium Shores show with the Flaming Lips and I hope that isn't it. A very quick set, awesome none the less.
Lets hope this is legit and its from Willies Ranch!
I would guess it's the Hype show.
